Loft Bar and Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We always try to hit the Bistro when we go to the SJ Comedy Club. The food is very good (love the blackberry pork medallions) but watch out around adding chicken to your salad ($10+ up charge). We sat on the upper deck (outside but covered) and it was cold...yes they have heaters but still cold for the ladies. I don't suggest parking right next door either since the hours add up and we paid $27 per car.
Great location and convenient for downtown San Jose events. Wide variety of options which appealed to our diverse group. The service was very friendly and attentive, the wine/beer/cocktail options were plentiful, and the food was really good. The portions were large, my panko-crusted chicken with mustard sauce and vegetables was super tender and well prepared. I would definitely eat here again.
Took a very long time to be noticed by the waitress, we actually had to ask when we would be waited on before she came over.
Food was alright, my sandwich came out cold but they were very quick to fix it and bring me out a new one. Excellent fries! The drinks were pretty good too.
For such a large crowded room the noise level was pretty low which was nice. We might come back, but it won't be our first choice.
Disappointed because we were expecting to receive the new year at the place, we had a reservation to have dinner at 10:30 pm but right after we finished eating they kicked us out (about 11:45pm) because there were not supposed to have minors after certain hour (my daughter was 18 and my son 14) they could have told us when we arrived so we could have made plans to spend new year's eve somewhere else, or at least let us spend 15 more minutes, but since we've already paid they didn't mind to kick us out.
Our table was located on a separate room enclosed by doors, separated from the bar and the dancing crowd, they could have left us stay there for 15 more minutes, besides we couldn't finish the bottle of wine we ordered, what a waste!
Otherwise the food was ok, nothing special but it wasn't bad, and our waitress was great.
Very bad customer service, staff at front desk barely talks to customers. When seated , I was left and had to find the waiter. to get a menu. Once I got the menu, the food was over prices because I guess it was New Years Eve. The food list I was told over the phone was not being served. I called in twice and asked about the place and was not happy when I arrived there. I had to leave and find somewhere else to go for the evening. I would never suggest this place to anyone. A mess for New Years Eve. That evening staff need to be trained before interacting with customers. She was a nut case and just a mess. I had to show her that I reserved online. My name was staring right in her face for 9:00pm. This young lady at the front desk who seated us is a total dumbo. Not happy on arrival to this place.
Our family went here for Christmas eve. We had great service and the food was very good. If you make an advanced reservation, make sure you request to be upstairs or at least a seat away from the door as the downstairs is small and on a cold evening cold air rushes in every time the door opens!
I usually like the Loft for after work drinks and quick bite. However, Christmas Eve dinner the place was chaotic, kitchen was slow and put out terrible food. I can only think that regular cook was on vacation and they couldn't handle the busy holiday traffic.
We made reservations prior to our show at SJ Improv, which is two doors down the street. We enjoyed a great dinner with drinks and appetizers. The steak bites are delicious and the Calamari was light and crisp. I had the Chinese Chicken Salad which was very good and a large portion. We will be back to try more items on menu.
We are planing our 40th High school Reunion and thought to check out this centrally located venue for our group of 100+. While the Banquet / Large Party menu items were NOT on the daily dinner menu, they were more than happy to accommodate us, serving our potential sections for the Reunion.
The staff was very pleasant, attentive and not intrusive, perfect service ! Our server was knowledgable, friendly, eager to serve us...refreshing !
All in all, a great, affordable venue, with a variety of food choices, full bar and excellent service... The Reunion WILL BE HERE !
Despite the recent negative reviews, we enjoyed ourselves! I don't think the people who gave the negative reviews really gave this place a chance. We were greeted with the friendliest of smiles. The service is great. We tried food in every category on the menu. The appetizers were the perfect amount to start our experience. We brought our kids with us and instead of ordering from the kids menu split the tri-tip sliders & added a side of shoestring onion rings between them. The salad was fresh and abundant. Our main course was very fulling. I ordered the bistro filet & my husband the chicken marsala. The sides were seasoned well and delicious. We finished every bite. Even though we consumed a large amount of food already, we opted to have dessert. Creme brûlée & lava cake were a very nice touch to finish the meal. We won't hesitate to return. Thanks for a great time!
The building is beautiful, the staff are attentive, but the menu is too extensive and nothing is of particular note. I'd much rather see the chefs focus on a few things done phenomenally well rather than dozens of things done okay. There are few customers and it had me thinking how do they keep all of the ingredients they need fresh?
This place should really be so much better. The space looks dilapidated. The food is fine, but nothing to rave about. It should be a perfect place for a local resident or business traveler to enjoy a simple meal. But, the kicker is really the lack of service. I had a reservation, and waited to be greeted for about 5 minutes. The entire upstairs of the restaurant was closed. So, it was hardly busy. There was a total lack of service. After being seated, it was another 10 minutes before anyone approached the table to see what we wanted. The entire meal was like that. No matter how perfectly tasty something is, bad service is what really leaves a patron with a "bad taste in their mouth."
Perhaps my expectations were too high. I found the decor tired. The menu was long, which to me is a red flag. It is hard to offer so many dishes with fresh preparations and crisp execution, when you have too many items/entres. the food was okay. Some things better than others. But in reality, it was just a step better than a chain. We were looking for something a little more sophisticated in downtown San Jose. We probably could have done better at the hotel. I would not classify this place as a bistro.
I would not recommend this place. The staff at the bar is rude, the place is in dire need of an upgrade (hint, the paper towel holder in the men's room was held together by masking tape). Their food was mediocre and wine list was mediocre. We won't be back.
The food was good. The server keyed in part of the order incorrectly causing a delay in my dish, but the she and the staff were attentive enough to make sure i had some soup and that I was ok. Their attentiveness more than made up for the delay. I'd dine here again.
A friend and I ate at the Loft Bar and Bistro early on a Tuesday night before a concert at St. Joseph's. We shared 2 not so small plates and a salad. The food was great. We had crab cakes, and grilled skewered shrimp, and salad. The crab cakes are sauteed and covered in butter sauce, so they weren't crispy, which I prefer, but the flavor was great. The grilled shrimp were just perfect. They have 3 different shrimp dishes on the small plates menu. The service was friendly and personal, and the owner came over to speak to us as well. It was quiet there early, but later after the concert, there were folks sitting both inside and out. We will certainly return.
Went here for lunch on a Saturday and sat at the bar until my date arrived, and bartender Sylvia was very engaging and fun. When my date arrived we were seated right away and lunch was very good, great service from Sylvia who was attentive, not intrusive, and we were never rushed. All in all a great experience.
We were met in the restaurant by a staff member who did not save us table when we had a reservation. She sat two others ahead of us without a reseervation at lunch and then the inside as full. We were stuck outside by the street so we could'nt hear anything due to the large buses.( We , thus had to eat fumes for lunch.), We waited for a long time to order. (Of course , they took the order of the next table first , when they had been seated after us). The salad I had was ok. The meat loaf my business associate had was good. Overall, not a very great experiance.
Great dishes, good mixture of food to excite the taste buds. I had the pork tenderloin w mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes. The pork tenderloin sauce was a good flavor. A good mixture of veggies, loved the beets, nice twist to a restuarant staple. My wfe had the ahi tuna. Very good, even from a fish hater like myself! Her sides were sauteed spinach/mushrooms and veggie rice. Again a new twist to sauteed spinach that worked well.
