Good Food, Nice Dining Room, Excellent Desserts. We had Chocolate Cake.
Food is over priced for what it is. Margarita was good.
It was a Saturday night and a private party had the upstairs seating. We had a reservation and were squeezed into a table in the downstairs bar. It was noisy with little ambiance and we got a cold blast of air every time the front door opened. Because it was a Saturday, I can only presume that banquets are the most important part of the Loft's business plan with restaurant dining being a fallback if there happens to be room. We had an Open Table reservation yet management did not warn us the primary dining room was closed. I suggest Open Table require a client be told in time to cancel their reservation.
It was a great experience
I was on a date with my wife. We were greeted by the hostess and the phone rang. I offered her to answer it first before she sat us. She then says ok and gives me the menus and answers the phone while I walk with my long dress in my hand and menus up the stairs. She never caught up with us to seat us, we sat ourselves. One waiter saw us looking and let us sit ourselves. A female waiter comes up to take our drink order, leaves real quick, & comes back just after greeting us. Then the male waiter that saw us sitting oursleves comes to take our order. A kind man, but didn’t even ask me if I wanted a drink so I just stayed with water not wanting to spend money there. He takes our plates off the table and it is dirty but leaves us with the dirty table for us to clean ourselves before our dessert comes. My wife who always insists on leaving a good tip decided not to and to me that says a lot. I almost never see her tip less than 20%.
I wouldn't recommend this place on a Monday night. The food was not special. I would guess the salmon was frozen. The desserts were sub-par. The upstairs was closed for a special event--the atmosphere is much nicer upstairs. Overall, it would be hard to get me to go back there.
It was by far the worst restaurant I've ever been to. I wanted to check out Restaurant week, but I have never been so disappointed.
First off, we were told that there would be a 10-min delay for our food. We had to wait 15 min just get our order in. The soup we ordered came 30 min later. It was only then that the server offered us bread. We saw other customers get their food before us. By this point, we had been at the restaurant for 1.5 hours and our entree still hasn't arrived. We were so frustrated that we didn't even wait for the entree.
Would not recommend at all.
The service was terrible. The server forgot my drink order (club soda) for over 15 min, and my scampi was served almost 10-15 min after everyone else had been served at our table. The wrap dishes were not made as ordered (without lettuce), but st that point, we just stopped bringing attention to all the problems. The air vent was blowing and it was cold. We saw other customers looking to change seats, get their own drink orders at the bar, and appear frustrated w the service.
Made a reservation on open table.
Disappointed that there were no crab cakes when the menu has two choices one for appetizers one for salad. We didn’t learn about it until the meals were ordered and then the person who had to sub their choice was very late in receiving their order. Some in our party liked the food while a couple of us don’t see any reason to return
Slow service, food was nothing special. Probably wouldn’t go back.
Four of us came here after seeing a show at the Hammer Theatre Saturday at 6pm for its location and previewing their menu variety.
We were originally seated right next to the entrance and it was chilly out that evening. The cold wind was rushing in so fierce, I asked to be re-seated somewhere else. They were accommodating but because they had a full house already, the only table left was the upper level patio room and located right under the high windows that still couldn't deter cold air coming in --other side of room had heat lamps but not us. We managed through the meal by keeping our coats on. The service was so lacking, upon seating we asked our server to replace bread/oil plate because it was knocked and olive oil spilled onto the table so I had just used the paper placemats to soak it while waiting to have someone just simply wipe it , yet it was forgotten about. The small plates were very, very good and made us feel it was going to be fine. We ordered entrees and the one I wanted was no longer available so I decided on the meatloaf which was nothing to speak of. Mashed potatoes had a strange aftertaste, kind of chemical/soapy taste so I was worried. The side vegetables were good and I ate all of that. The rest of the entrees seemed to be just fine. We had asked our server and had to wait way too long to get water, different salad dressing (when it was requested at ordering time), more coffee, 2nd cocktail. It was so hard to find someone to get our attention so I had to get up to speak to staff and in the end, we weren't even asked if we wanted dessert. I would still come for the small plates but really worry about service when they're busy. Don't be short staffed and have staff go around to check on their patrons throughout their meal. I will give this place another visit because they have a very good menu.
Great location. We were seeing a show at the Hammer Theater, easy walk.
Food was good our waitress was just okay. We asked if they could make a particular drink that’s on the menu at other location Her response was “oh I don’t think so”
Not even let me check with the bartender.
A friend and I met for a relaxed dinner on a Thursday evening. Staff was attentive without being overbearing and all of our needs were met. The food was good+ and I was happy when we left. Exactly what we were looking for.
My crab stuffed salmon was delicious. Even though there were just a few tables occupied on a Sunday night- our server was very inattentive, and had zero personality. Chocolate mousse was yummy!
Great place for lunch or dinner when attending downtown theaters.
Good service and staff. Food was good and didn’t take to long. Enjoyed it.
This is the 3rd time I have been at this restaurant. I absolutely love the food and service. The only minus this time was the background music. It was a bit loud and too lively for a nice quiet and relaxing dinner. The other rimes when we went it was a softer jazz music and lower volume.
We enjoyed our food and lunch. The Lasagna and Crab cake salad were good. The other orders were good too-a wrap and a sandwich. We enjoyed the food! I would recommend the place for lunch. It was a slow day so may be they were light on staff. The restroom needed to be cleaned.
This was one of the worst meals I have had in some time-My husband ordered the French dip-it was overcooked and bland.
My son ordered the Ahi salad , the salad was ok the Ahi was old and tasteless.
I ordered the panko prawns and pretty hard to mess that up-they were ok not too much taste.
Overall I will never eat there again-not worth the $85.00 that we paid.
Good place for an upscale dinner in a casual setting. Will be back for loft drinks and dining.
We really enjoyed our meal. The food was great. There is a good happy hour menu. Lots of options to choose from. The downstairs area is small and cozy. I would definitely eat here again.
Friendly, helpful service but the food was only average. Nothing to distinguish this place from countless others.
Took my Mom to see Beautiful at The Center for the Performing Arts last Saturday night and this place was the only one I could find with a reaervation time and decent reviews. Great find, excellent food and even better service. Adrian the manager took great care of us!! The lambshanks were amazing!
We had been there in the past & had good food & a good experience. This time, although there was no other people in the restaurant, there were some items that were out or no longer available, the food had either no flavor or was very greasy & several plates that our table received were incorrect in some way. Maybe next time it will be better.
It was very good ! And romantic. I really liked our service. It was a nice patio setup outside under the lights and everyone was helpful and freindly
Had the eggplant parmigiana and wife had the salmon. Salmon was raw. Eggplant was not fresh tasting and not hot, just Luke warm when served. Overall food below par for me. Service was about your average ,not bad, but nothing spectacular. Not someplace I'd return to.
Great place to get a quick, great tasting dinner before going to the Sharks games.
Went with friends after matinee theater. We were asked if we wanted to sit upstairs, downstairs or outside, all good options. We sat upstairs preferring to be where we could visit more easily. It was before 5:00, so had to wait a few minutes for the waitress that started at 5:00 before ordering. It gave us time to look at the fun lists of cocktails and beer. The menu is the same or very similar to the sister restaurant Caper's in Campbell. Great selection and very well prepared, all four meals. Some how my main dish was incorrect, but the waitress quickly resolved the issue and brought me what I ordered. In addition we were comped desserts due to this issue. Very nice of them to do that. This was the second time at The Loft and will definitely go back again when downtown San Jose. Our party really enjoyed the variety on the menu and very good preparation and presentation of the meals.
Every time I am in San Jose for the weekend I bring my friends to Loft Bar and Bistro. Great food. Excellent service. My favorite place!
This place could be much better if service improves
Fun place in downtown San Jose
Excellent service, food and wine flight
Terrific service. Waitress helped us pick an entree. She recommended a chicken dish with a creamy mustard sauce. The sauce was so good we ordered more to dip our veggies in. Yum!
Sitting out on the balcony is very nice.
My husband, daughter and myself ate there prior to a concert at the sap center, it was excellent food and great ambience sitting on the rooftop.
The food was very good, portions were good. I thought it was a little expensive but I don't go out much do maybe I'm just out of touch.
My favorite food at this location is the Tiramisu. I have been searching for great tiramisu for a long time and this place has the best locally. Worth the trip.
Special thanks to the manager for visiting our table and taking to our group
The service was friendly, the food was good, the price was reasonable. The menu was large and interesting.
Went on a quiet night for dinner. Shated a 2 lamb shank entry, roasted artichoke, the roasted red pepper soup and creme brulee. All were very good. Ate outside on the roofdining area which was very pleasant, although no view, just fresh air. Parking validation was very handy. Service was cheerful and efficient.
