lock stock and barrel Ratings and Reviews
Normally, we would rate this experience 4 to 5 stars but this visit was not up to the normal. We were celebrating my birthday as we do every year . (Also, on her birthday). Here goes:
First. The lighting over table 2 is so dim that we could not read the menu. Second: The hot rolls were undercooked. We sent them back twice. Finally, the rice was also undercooked and was left uneaten on the plate.
We did complain about the rolls and probably the lighting but the rice was part of the main dish and didn't want to embarrass ourselves any more.
I used to LOVE Lock Stock & Barrel when it was on Emerald. The ambiance AND food was so much better before they decided to go upper class. When they first went downtown I went in and immediately left as I am sure other people did because they didnt have the salad bar. That came back. Plus 1! I had gone in there a couple times since and the food was ok. January 9th was my b/f 60th birthday. I noted this in my reservation. Table was nice. Food? I could have had a WAY better meal at Texas Road House for less money. A piece of meat that was barely room temperature and a baked potato that could barely melt the butter. And with a whopping price of $27.99 each for the 8oz prime rib(only because you've gone upper class) I'm quite disappointed. At the end of the meal, she asked if we would like dessert. We said no. Then when she was bringing out the check, she said, " I totally spaced its your birthday, would you like some dessert? Its on us." We said no, just put it in a to go box. Sad to say, but I think that this girl who was born and raised on the old Lock Stock & Barrel will find other places to dine from now on. I dont believe I will be going back. There are way better places to eat in Boise and Meridian than LSB.
In a nutshell: great food, genuinely friendly service, ample portions. Bring a serious appetite! The live music was great fun to hear as we finished our meal. (We sat upstaira and could still talk while they played.) This place feels like a true Boise establishment, a place where locals substantially outnumber tourists.
We’ve been here many times and have enjoyed it for special occasions. The last time (about 8 months ago) it was ok, not great. This time it was bad. No flavor in any of our items, soups were bland, steaks were flavorless and I ordered a specially seasoned aged steak to get that good flavor. I don’t think we’ll be back as we feel it getting progressively worse. Very sad as it was a staple.
We went for our first anniversary dinner. The meal and service were outstanding. My wife had the filet Oscar, and I had a prime barrel steak. Both were cooked to perfection and delicious. They even comped our dessert because it was our anniversary. The service provided by Taylor was top notch, there when needed but not intrusive. All in all, a great time. I highly recommend Lock stock and barrel for a great meal and experience.
In general, I was disappointed. I had expected a more pleasant ambience. I felt like I was in an old diner from the 70s. The service was friendly and good. The salad bar is nothing to rave about. You can get that at any casual dining restaurant. The meat was fine, however we can grill a steak with my flavor at home.
I was disappointed that our 25th anniversary was not recognized. When I made the reservation, the system asked if it was for an occasion and I indicated anniversary. We weren't even asked which anniversary. Our table was too small. The food was delicious but because the booth was so small, I didn't want to stay and let my food settle after eating.
I made the reservation for 6:30 PM for our anniversary. When we arrived, the host tells us that they are busy and will have to check if they had a table.
The server was pleasant but did not once ask if our dinner was satisfactory. A manager (?) stopped by and asked if everything was ok.
No one mentioned anything about our anniversary!
It's the little things that make someone come back!!!
I don't plan on returning!
My husband got the barrel steak which was cooked to perfection and I got the jumbo fried shrimp with mashed potatoes and salad bar. Our waitress brought over a Oreo cheese cake with a candle on top to help celebrate our special anniversary occasion. This place was recommended by a local friend as my husband was here on business. All the food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. Staff was very friendly and manager came by to say happy anniversary.
The food was excellent, as it always is. We both had prime rib which was as good or better as what we've had the famous House of Prime Rib in San Francisco. Our server, Michele provided excellent service and was very friendly and welcoming.
The one thing that did surprise me was that when I made our reservation I indicated we were celebrating our anniversary. In the past we've been served complimentary champagne, but this time we weren't. That doesn't mean we won't return, because we will, we really love the food at LSB. But if they want to compete with other steakhouse restaurants like Chandler's or Ruth's Chris, they dropped the ball here.
Overall, it was a fine dining experience.
