L'Oceano Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I went to L'Oceano for a date night, and couldn't have picked a better spot. The food was fantastic - both the whole fish and the salmon filet were outstanding. Dessert was even better - had the Vanilla Crunch cake, but it was truly difficult making a decision among all of the great choices! The service, from the owner greeting us and seating us, to the waitstaff being the perfect mix of attentive, but not overbearing, just made the meal that much better. You could tell there were a lot of neighborhood regulars, as several guests were greeted by name (soon to be us too, I would think!) The restaurant isn't overly large though, so i would definitely make reservations before heading over. Perfect place for a romantic evening out, or to celebrate a special occasion. BYOB! We will absolutely be back!
Wonderful combination of excellent fresh fish and Italian food. I had a beautiful beet and goat cheese salad that was wonderful in flavor and beautiful to view
Then Pompano was available as today’s special and it was perfect
Then almond glazed bread pudding
Everything was perfect! I will be back again!
We returned and found the food to be excellent again. Service is spot on and the owner is part of the service, you are treated like a friend. I tried the stuffed trout and it was delicious. All the food is very good and the menu is well thought out. We will be back again.
One of favorite spots for my entire family. This is our go to when we want excellent seafood and fish. We have never been disappointed with a meal! I recommend the grilled Romain salad for appetizer or the lamb chops. Lobster Mac is also a favorite for dinner.
A wonderful and resplendent dining experience from the moment we entered and were greeted by Chris, the owner. From there, Chris made us feel like special guests as he detailed the night’s specials. Everything including the food, service, and atmosphere was professional and extra-special.
Well done Chris and extraordinary staff for a memorable dining experience.
The best restaurant. Could eat here every night. Crab ragoon flatbread is sumptuous. Venison meatballs terrific. Special app of little red peppers stuffed with crab and gorgonzola. Can't figure how Chris dreams this stuff up. Seafood pot pie special was superb. Chris is a wonderful host. Always love eating at L'Oceano.
Super meal! Chris the owner is delightful & welcoming and every item was delicious. Homemade gnocchi appetizer was light, fluffy and served with a perfect marinara sauce. Mussels appetizer with a brandy cream sauce was spicy, garlicky and great for dipping. Standout was the whole-fish done scampi style served with spinach and zucchini.
Chris was spectacular. We arrived 45 minutes early for our reservation and he moved some things around so we didn't have to wait. His attention to detail made us feel welcomed and the experienced felt personalized. We would go back here anytime!
Oh yea, and the food was creative and fun. Not your everyday menu! Try the lobster arincini's!.
The staff made us feel like family from the second we walked in. The only thing that outstaged the phenomenal service was the incredible food. Large portions with robust flavor. Mussels and Gnocchi are must trys.
Highly recommend this for a great dining experience.
This is a great find. It is one those places that just wow you with their food. My event was a girl friends get together. The owner welcomed us and treated us like honored guests thru the evening. All dishes were amazing. Everything on the menu looked great. We had a difficult time choosing our dishes. We ended up getting many of the smaller plate dishes so we could try many things. It turned out to be a good idea. Everyone loved the food. There were many dishes to choose from on the menu. Plus plus plus they offered quite a few special dishes. The dishes satisfied a wide range of tastes from mussels, gnocchi, venison, lobster, pork, steak and various fishes. All dishes were prepared creatively. The combination of flavors were right on target. I especially enjoyed the lobster stuffed poblano peppers. The sauces were great. The service was on time and comfortable.
Our group does not get together to often. So when we do, we tend to chat and linger or quite a while. The staff continued to make us feel welcome with no rushing. The restaurant is in a great location. It is centrally located which is great for a group that is coming from Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania suburbs and many areas of south Jersey. Parking is no issue. There was an abundance of street parking. This is a BYOB restaurant. Perfect for my friends who like a wide range of wines.
Did I mention the food. Yes! No! Yes! I have to say, it was one of those places that I will cherish. I plan on returning with my friends and girlfriend for date night. Also, I look forward to taking my Mom. I know it will be a treat for her. I have had the opportunity to experience many of the BYOB restaurants in the Philadelphia and South Jersey area. I believe there are many good and even very good BYOB places. L'Oceano of Collingswood New Jersey is now in my list of EXCELLANT restaurants. Thank you L'Oceano for preparing all your wonderful dishes form me and my friends.
My fiancé and I came to celebrate his birthday. The food was great. We had the arancini, butternut squash bisque, pesto gnocchi special and the tuna, and we enjoyed all of it. Not to mention the best cheesecake I've had in a VERY long time. Seriously. The service was awesome too, they were super friendly and seemed genuinely grateful that we were there. We will definitely be back!
Our first time at this great neighborhood place, and it was definitely worth the wait. This was one of the best meals and dining experiences we’ve had in awhile. The ambience was attractive and casually elegant and everything we ordered was fabulous. The menu was well thought out and well-executed (I’m still dreaming of the Lobster Mac and Cheese!) and the service was top notch. The servers treat you like family- they were knowledgeable and constantly caring for our table, but never intrusive. Couldn’t ask for a better experience- L’Oceano is a real gem. We will be back!
This was our 5th time dining at L’Oceano and we have yet to be disappointed. Beyond the great value and flavors, we have received the best service of any restaurant we have dined in in a very long time. While the food would be enough for us to continue dining at L’Oceano, the personal service has made it one of our favorite places.
After hearing great things we expected a good experience. Nice people but wow what a disappointment. Service was not so good (we often had been forgotten) and the food...well it was not so great either. Sorry. Skillfully using all the buzz words one would want to hear is good but when the execution is off it leads to missed expectations. Examples of missed execution included oysters being very full of sand. (each one) No salt at all within the mac and cheese which was basic and just ok in terms of flavor. (simply because you touch it with truffle oil does not mean it is great) The long hots worked. The gnocchi was ok and not made in house. The "Chef's" selection? Not sure a "chef" was present. Unless it was the person using the microwave to heat up food. When describing a fish selection not certain patrons want to hear "the fish has a thick skin." Maybe "you will find the fish to be tender and flaky with a delicious flavor" may be more appealing. Just a thought.
The main dish missed the mark completely. Polenta was flavorless, cold, hard and dried out. Broccoli rabe was so over salted it was hardly edible. The chicken was dried out and tough to chew. Dessert was just ok. It all sounded great but the end result...not so much. Anyone who has ever searched for or purchased real estate knows that the pictures you see on line compared to what you see in person are often far apart. Pretty much exactly what happened for us. Have been to hundreds of places throughout the world and am deeply connected within the culinary world. Both the front of the house and the back of the house. This "sounded" and "looked" good but the reality of it was far different for us. Good luck.
Our family went as a small group for a special occasion. It was a treat to have it a L'Oceano. My wife and I had the pompano catch of the day, wonderful. Our daughter had the scallop tacos, what an idea. Our grandson had chicken breast filet and glorious mac'n'cheese. We are thinking of inventing more special occasions to go to L'Oceano more often.
I returned to L’Oceano with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday. It is one of my favorite places to have an awesome meal. My boyfriend was there for the first time and loved it as well. I enjoyed the Hawaiian tuna while my boyfriend had the fluke. We also enjoyed the mussels for an appetizer. Everything was amazing! Chris, the owner, as well as his staff were extremely attentive as usual. We were even treated to a dessert for my birthday. Once again I enjoyed a wonderful evening at L’Oceano!
