Locanda Del Borgo Ratings and Reviews
Our first time there. Wait staff was friendly, but not very knowledgeable about the food or drinks. Had to make several trips to find the answers to our questions. Felt the food was just par to similar restaurants and a bit overpriced for the portions. Also $4 for a luke warm cup of regular coffee with no offer of a refill is also overpriced.
Went to the restaurant, but it was closed for cleaning. No call indicating the closing. The manager suggested their sister restaurant, Cafe Mercato which was not far. It was delicious and had one if my favorite dishes from Sicily. Would definitely go back. Different menu from Locanda del Borgo but the same quality.
Actual, real, authentic (southern) Italian cuisine in CO! It does not get better than this. Had frito misto, lobster risotto (special) and cioppino. All the seafood was beautifully cooked. First time I’ve had cioppino and not been disappointed. Best Italian and seafood I’ve had in CO. You should go. (Dishes were a tad spicy.)
Disappoints yet again. We've been here 3 times as a family. It seems that there is always some part of the evening that doesn't work out . Tonight was the final straw. We were a table of 6. The food took well over an hour to arrive. 2 of our party had reasonably-sized portions, 2 people barely had any food on their plates. The prices are really high for the portion size. It's too bad because the sauces for pasta are good and the pizza is good. The server was just ok tonight, in the past it's been sketchy. In the end, after 3 visits, there is always some part of the evening that makes you feel less than satisfied when you leave . I've moved this restaurant off my list. Too many other consistently good Italian restaurants in town that I'd rather go to than to return to this place. PS we've been to their sister restaurant in Lowry. Even more expensive. Not planning to return there either.
Ventilation problem, it was dangerously smoky in the restaurant, they should never have seated us. The fire department came we were sitting towards to back, he said did they tell you to go out to the patio? No they didn't - he said the CO2 was dangerously high. We stood out there for about 15 minutes, the server was going to give us a bill, our food was still on the table. The owner was in the restaurant, he never came out and addressed the patrons. We said we didn't think we should have to pay our bill, but we did tip the server.
After many, many great visits to Locanda I was disappointed Friday. I know 7:30 on a Friday is busy but our service was perfunctory and my dish (tagliatelle with shrimp) was very ho-hum and not hot. I had brought a friend and wanted to show her what a great neighborhood restaurant we have, and she said her dish was good.
The total experience at Locanda del Borgo was excellent as usual. I have been a customer at the restaurant for about nine years now and the consistency is always something I can count on. The staff is friendly and the service great. You will not be disappointed ... 😀
This is a very good neighborhood restaurant with excellent food. We have been there many times. I had the cioppino and it was very tasty. The special of the day was a fettuccine with chicken and cheese and it was also very good. The fritto misto was an excellent appetizer and the clams/mussels are also great. The wine list is very reasonable with lots of Italian wines. We had an excellent Barbara di Alba. The tiramisu was also outstanding and the best I had in quite awhile in the Denver area. Overall, this is nice Italian restaurant with a varied menu, helpful and attentive staff, and a great way to spend an evening.
Normally I would give this restaurant a great review, but the last two time, the wait staff has been an issue. The previous time was the host was filled with attitude and not at all welcoming. We were glad not to see her and this time the host couldn't have been nicer. However our server was the issue this time. When he finally got to our table, he ran through the specials so fast you could hardly understand him. It was also very loud in there that evening and when we asked him to repeat a couple of the specials, he acted like we insulted him. He carried that attitude for most of the evening. Food was good, not great as I've had before. The Cioppino was a disappointment, it was on such a heaping mound of pasta, it lost its fish stew feeling. Won't be back for a while.
