Housed in the Historic Boyd Hotel, Local offers an upscale modern American menu. Our cuisine is seasonally focused, uncluttered and executed with precision. We use the highest quality and freshest ingredients, such as meat products from Niman Ranch and seafood from Connolly's in Boston. Many dishes feature breads made from scratch and all of our desserts, including our sorbets and ice cream, are made in-house. Never overbearing, entrees are innovative yet classic, simple yet refined.

Local Ratings and Reviews
Absolutely wonderful. The atmosphere was romantic and the service was spectacular. Wonderully prepared food with nuances. We were served an unexpected demitasse of black eyed pea soup. The steak on polenta was perfect. The wine list was not extensive but good. A little expesive but the trip was worth it.
Service was nice and the noise level was quiet. Nice change of pace from most Dallas restaurants where you can barely hear the person across the table. Menu was diverse. I ordered the sea bass and my wife ordered the osso bucco. My dish was way under seasoned...very bland. My wife’s osso bucco had nice flavor but was a tad dry....overall not bad. The wilted kale we ordered must have been hit with a salt bomb...way too salty. Drink prices are about $2-$3 overpriced. $8 for a beer and $16 for a glass of wine?? All in all we spent $180 (including tip) and I felt like I left with much to be desired. I could have spent less at one of Dallas’ numerous restaurants and been more satisfied from a value standpoint. BUT, this restaurant is quaint and nice. It means well and the menu items can accommodate most everyone in your party. Perhaps it was just an “off” night in the kitchen.
The best meal I had in 2017 and I couldn't have been more ecstatic to partake on NYE. A wonderful end to my year! The 7-course tasting was a tremendous treat. It was my first time at Local but definitely not my last. I plan to frequent for special occasions and with out of town guests.
Local is one of my favorite Dallas restaurants. The food is creative and delicious without be so out there it is pretentious and incomprehensible. The restaurant design is subtle and beautiful. It's in a very cool, fun neighborhood, Deep Ellum, and unlike other restaurants in Dallas, you can actually hear a normal conversation.
We tried the tasting and the food quality was less than average and service was pretty bad.
What were we thinking? After course 2 we started to send full plates back. Nobody ever checked on our food or cared to know what was the problem, considering this was a several course fancy $$$$ dinner, we expected better service, and of course FOOD! The salmon was sweet and overdone with absolute no crust, the TOUGH steak was overwhelmingly sweet, the braised short rib was also sweet and was stringy/stale, makes me think chef puts sugar on everything to make up for the lack of talent and quality!! The spice cake was super dry, old and extremely stale despite all the nice presentation. On a Saturday night, the restaurant was mostly empty and I know why now!
Menu selection was varied to accommodate many tastes. . Food was cooked and presented in an exceptional manner but service was slow and inadequate. We were not asked if we wanted more drinks or how the food was. We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. We have dined at Local many times over the past 14 years and it is always consistently great! A true gem and stand out in a town with many good restaurants. Having an owner/chief that is so passionate about getting all the details right and providing great food and service makes this our favorite place for fine dining and entertaining.
This was THE best food I have ever eaten in the DFW area, probably ever in mylife. I never take pictures of my food, but I did this time. I wanted to remember. The wine was perfectly paired to the incredibly well thought out seasonal dishes. You get what you pay for. Go eat at LOCAL.
Very mixed feelings about this first visit. Very nice space, with history. Excellent service. And the food was good. But the quality did not justify the cost. The tasting menu might be a better choice next time, and I’ll probably give it a try when I come back to Dallas next. But that’s not what I did this time. I was dining alone. I just wanted a quiet meal within walking distance of my AirBnB. So I walked in and ordered the scallops. For $35, I got 3 perfectly cooked scallops (although one of the three had not been properly cleaned and was gritty). These three scallops rested on a bed of perhaps three tablespoons of minced potatoes sauteed in a very nice buttery sauce. That was it. I typically ignore reviews that complain about small portions. I don’t need big piles of food on my plate to feel that I got my money’s worth. But this meal seemed incomplete. In contrast, dessert was quite nice. Some sort of cake, fig slices, and a little scoop of ice cream. All anyone could need. I just wish I had had dinner, first.
We have not been to local in a few years. We started going when they opened and with kids and life did not make it down for about 5 years. The food is a great as ever. the menu had nice sized portions. Not big, but high quality proper size portions. The green beans are the best. We are excited about going back. the environment is the best, great staff and just a wonderful evening.
Local has their own parking lot so you don't have to worry about parking!!
Our second visit. My friend loved her prosecco/grapefruit sorbet cocktail. Spiced nuts & a tiny cup of cream of broccolini soup primed our palates. The guys loved the crafted burgers. My friend and I enjoyed the creative presentation and taste of the lobster cake. Don't miss the soda fountain dessert!
We were in a comfy corner. Noise level is low, easy to converse. Ambience is modern and chic.
And they got us out in time for our theater performance.
The food was good and the service was good. The filet and grits entree was very good. We ordered a glass of house wine apiece. My wife's glass could have had a little more. The coffee had a bit of a burned flavor to it. The chocolate souffle was, also, very good. Overall, we were pleased with the experience.
Delicious food and good ambiance. Tasting menu is a good choice, you receive 7 mini-versions of the appetizers, entrees, and dessert. The whole table is not required to do the tasting menu if only a couple of people are interested. Favorites of the night are salmon, beef tenderloin, lobster cake, beet salad.
A quiet, quaint spot in Deep Ellum. The food was delicious and the ambiance was romantic.
If you are knowledgeable about interior design - several classic chairs.
Love the prosecco mojito, the crispy green beans, ravioli, ahi, tenderloin, and sea bass! Oh - and I almost forgot the chocolate souffle!
Place is clean and quite, felt cozy and welcoming. Our waitress wasn't the most patient one.
The salad was lackluster, not bad tho.
The filet was good, steak sauce was spot on, but you could simply taste that it wasn't an expensive cut of meat.
Overall was a good dinner, but not really worth drive to me.
Local is one of my favorite restaurants in Dallas because it hasn't lost the touch of class that comes with paying attention to the smallest of details. The food is outstanding and always perfectly portioned, and their waitstaff makes you feel like you're the only customer in the restaurant, even on a Friday evening. While prices may be a little higher than some of the new and trendy restaurants in Deep Ellum, it's well worth it to make sure you don't miss out on a wonderful dining experience.
It was the first time for all 3 of us. I'm sorry to say that because it was such a wonderful evening. Local will definitely be on our list now. The space is wonderful, very simple and calming. The food was amazing. The staff was very friendly and accessible and added to the experience. The change in the light from the early evening to dark was very soothing. As I had heard the front room did get a little warm. The other spaces were cooler. The price was as would be expected for this quality of food. I would highly recommend Local to anyone.
Well, it was our first time visiting "Local" on a Saturday night. Upon entering the restaurant, we noticed it was quite warm. Our reservation was for 7:45 and we were a few minutes early so we were ushered to the bar. To get to the bar, we walked through a couple of small rooms which made the location quaint. We noticed while walking to the bar, that the restaurant progressively got cooler. It was my thought that we were so hot from walking around outside that the entrance just seemed warm and it was not a problem. Anyway, while at the bar, the bartender was very nice but took a very long time to get us drinks. While I don't normally complain, and I did not at the time, there were only four other patrons at the bar at the time. When our reservation time arrived, we were brought to a table in the front, entrance, room to be seated. At that time we noticed it was extremely warm there. I will not go into detail but once we were given a glass of water, since we had drinks, it took thirty minutes for someone to take our order. The food arrived and it was acceptable but it should have been since you pay a premium to eat here. We stopped the waitress four separate times to ask for water since no one would respond to our finally putting the glasses at the end of the table for the world to see. I notic d another table do the same thing as we were not the only ones not being attended to. As we were about to leave, I heard one of the waitress tell a couple that she was having a tough time working because of the heat in the restaurant because of air conditioning problems. Not once did anyone say anything to us about a problem. Normally, you would expect someone to apologize for the conditions and ask if they could do something to make your visit more enjoyable. In retrospect, I probably should have just told them when we got to the table, no, I would prefer to eat at the bar where it was cooler. Just really killed the night having pants soaked in sweat.
