Local Seasonal Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Exterior signage needs to be lit at night , barely found the place in a non descript strip mall. Interior was nicely decorated although tables were quite close together. Appetizers and entrees were excellent, especially octopus and scallops. Presentation and service also good, kitchen a little slow but it was a crowded Saturday night. . Desserts were the least impressive although my wife was excited about a gluten and dairy free item.... Overall would highly recommend, byob saved a little money but still pricey.
The perfect spot to enjoy an amazing dining experience, especially if you're celebrating a special occasion. The chef is an alchemist with his preparations of both meats and vegetables; the ambiance is perfect for enjoying both the food and the company, and the wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable, but never pushy. One of the best pure food experiences in Bergen County!
We love this restaurant. The portion size is perfect and the food is superb. I got the lobster appetizer with dried cherries and apricots and a pear puree. What a wonderful combination!
We were four, brought our own wine - always welcome - and were delighted with what we ate.
Desserts were also wonderful, not too sweet, and just the right size.
The food is excellent and the owners are available for an occasional chat. The chef worked in NY kitchens and I'm amazed at the wait staff training. Some of the wait staff are young men and women, but they are trained to serve on a professional level. This is a rare delight in the suburbs. The price is higher than the typical NJ fare, but it's priced right for the level of service and cuisine.
Local is a few miles from our house and we can not find one fault. This visit to Local was the 10th time we didn't travel to nyc because this place is so good. Local is better than Saddle River Inn, which is excellent. Local crushes Panache, which is okay. Local is better than Esty Street, which we really do likev and is more romantic.
Go to Local. It's shockingly good. I keep wanting to find one thing wrong but this past meal was one of the best I've ever had there.
This was our fourth time at LSK. Obviously, we've been quite happy with our previous experiences there or we would not have returned. This time, things seemed to be slipping in execution. Had the egg raviolo appetizer many times previously. This time it wasn't the same. Not sure why, but didn't live up to the usual quality. My wife's salad (a special) was not that great either. The chicken had an odd taste. The mains were just OK. Dessert, formerly a strength at LSK, was very disappointing. And the espresso tasted burnt. Service was OK, but not particularly friendly. Have had better experiences before. It's sad, but we may not return again due to this experience. We were there for a special occasion and it was a big disappointment, especially given our past, positive experiences.
This is the second visit to the Local and it was a wonderful experience. The food was cooked to perfection and all courses were amazing. I would highly recommend the Local to all who appreciate terrific food, great service and an overall great dining experience.
I like the fact that the food is not only delicious but also presently very nicely. The portions are large and so are the prices. The quality is excellent. The seasonal changes to the menu make it different every visit. The storefront location is a bit of a turnoff. BYOB is a plus and there is a liquor store in the strip mall.
This is my third visit and the food is exceptional. I would have given the service 5 stars except two of the parties had the cauliflower steak and both asked for something - even salad dressing as a sauce and the server refused. Everyone has their own taste and I believe his response should have been " let me try."
Yellowfin Tuna Sashimi - Excellent! Honestly the best tuna sashimi I've had in New Jersey!
Rigatoni (appetizer) - Great dish. Perfectly cooked! Great for an app.
NY Strip Steak - Perfectly cooked med-rare. very tasty.
Special Fish of the day - above average fish, but the tasty sides made up for it.
Overall a wonderful mean (best i've had so far in Bergen County!)
My husband and I ate at Local for the first time on Saturday. We were unimpressed by the strip mall location and interior of the restaurant. The menu is limited and pricey. But the tuna sashi appetizer was attractively presented and very tasty. My husband really enjoyed the Duo special of filet and short ribs. The staff is attentive, refilling our water and bread dish.
First timer. Had heard a lot of good things and wasn't disappointed. The food was very good and our server was excellent. I had steamed clams and Mussels for appetizer, with interesting ingredients like chickpeas and Chorizo. Portion was very generous and would be perfect to share. For one person, make it smaller and reduce the price... For main course, I had NY Strip Steak cooked to perfection and my wife had the Sea Scallops. the spring onion & butternut squash was to die for!!!! believe it or not, we still had room for dessert!!!
Ambiance was nice, but would dimer lights to create more romance!!!
Only negative, tables for two are toooo close to each other!!! can't have a private conversation.
I've been wanting to try local for ages. Finally made it and they didn't disappoint. Portions are small (which I prefer), but the food was outstanding! The ricotta gnudi were the best I've ever had and the yellowfin tuna was so fresh and tasty! Everyone in my party (five, including myself) loved every bite of their food, including the salmon, short ribs and scallops. I can't wait to go back!
I thought having 5:30 reservation was too early,I was so wrong! We have a great table right away, had some time to hear the specials and look at the menu over a glass of wine. We were a party of 4. Our waitress was so pleasant and the atmosphere was cozy & warm and felt very comfortable. We enjoyed appetizers, delicious entrees and we shared a dessert. We never felt rushed as it started to fill up. I would recommend the cauliflower steak and the chocolate budino.. It was amazing! I can't wait to go back!!!!!
We have dined at Local Season Kitchen many times, and we always, excitedly, look forward to our reservation date. Its always a good idea to make reservations early in the week for week-end dates. The food preparation and service are on par with many of the better New York restaurants. Always a fabulous dining experience.
food is good, but the atmosphere, regarding loudness, and waiters in jeans, versus, the soft tones of Café Panache with white collared professional waiters is rather distinct. For basically the same value, with food being the strength of both places, the atmosphere at Local is not to my likeing. But alas, others seem to like the bright open laugh out loud atmosphere.
Better restaurants do this. The waitstaff knows the specials, and if a particular special is in limited supply, the waitstaff should know every time they recite the specials how many are available. I have been told many times at other establishments, todays special is a veal chop. FYI we only have 3 left. If you want one I will go to the kitchen and reserve it for you right now. At Local, not the case. The veal was gone by 6:30 approx. and there was no other choice close on the menu. This is the second time such has happened to me at Local. Still love the place but not when this happens. Can"t give more stars when this happens.
First time dining here - food was obviously fresh and tasted wonderful. Had the chicken off the menu for dinner and the spaghetti for appetizer. The spaghetti was very spicy but I wish I had ordered it for dinner - it was THAT good. Husband ordered salad as an appetizer and a pasta special for dinner. He enjoyed both. Portions were enough that we did not leave hungry but satisfied. As mentioned above, I thought some of the prices were a little steep but if the food and service is good, you don't mind paying.
Went to this restaurant when they first opened. I found the food to be better then then now.
Actually was disappointed in the food. Ambiance, service were very good. I found the menu to be very limited. Everyone that I know of that has gone they really liked it. Sorry not me.
Had dinner w 2 friends celebrating our 'milestone' birthday. We shared the duck with pappardelle special as an appetizer. I'd go back just for this it was so tasty! The halibut special was flawlessly prepared. Service was attentive without being invasive. Interior atmosphere was calm and warm; just a shame it's located in such a nondescript strip mall. Will definitely go back, but at 50+ dollars per person, it's a bit steep.
Overall experience was good. The price is definitely high as if you were going to a higher end restaurant in New York City but in a suburban setting. Appetizer is mid $20's with quite small portion. Would recommend putting on white table cloth to up the caliber a notch.
We had Octopus salad. While the texture of the Octopus was done right, the roasted vegetable was very salty. Entree of Duck breast and pappardelle with duck were perfect. I am a big fan of Pork Belly and would love to see this on the menu again as I do not see this on any restaurant menu too often.
We love this restaurant. The food is great and very unusual. The ambience is wonderful and friendly. The service is excellent. We love coming here for special occasions, like birthdays or getting together with close friends. My husband eats things there that he would never try at home!
Excellent food & Every level of service was perfect. The waiting service is broken down to a handful of servers, from waitress to busboy, to separate staff to offer bread and for table clearing. All warm and engaging. Timing was perfect, attention to all detail very evident. A lovely hostess as well.
Food is really outstanding and creative to say the least
