Local Root is a fabulous neighborhood restaurant, where the Hosts and Servers go above and beyond to make your visit warm and welcoming.
The smells of warm bread, bacon, maple syrup all add to the homey and neighborhoody feeling.
While your there, be sure to have a Bloody Mary or Mimosa with your brunch/lunch.

Local Root offers the feel of a true local neighborhood casual restaurant. Upon entering, the wonderful smells of fresh baked muffins and bread and the enticing smell of bacon cooking, makes you feel warm and homey.
The Servers/Hosts continue to impress me by their outstanding and friendly service, remembering the customers preferences and consistently going above and beyond to make your experience enjoyable.

The restaurant was empty. The appetizer was good. The pork chop was too dry. The waiter was very nice and helpful. The jazz music was very repetitive. I didn't care for it.

We needed a place to eat before we walked to Navy Pier to catch a play. Local Root was great. Food interesting, delicious and satisfying, portions perfect, servers excellent, and a well stocked bar. We had a great time given th time we had.

Local Root is a wonderful neighborhood "good feel" restaurant in the popular Streeterville neighborhood. The food is authentic and the aroma of the fresh baked goods is heavenly. Try the mimosas and bloody mary's with your brunch.

Wanted to try based on reviews. Food was overpriced and not that good. Wouldn't go back

I love eating here because it's not too expensive but the food is high quality. You can eat healthy and tasty. It is a teensy bit loud when full but I'm also very sensitive to sound. It's all wood everywhere and no sound abatement.

Great food and independent restaurant vibe. Only quibble was the frequent, high-pitched barking by a customer's service dog--i thought service dogs only barked if their owner was in danger. This dog barked at everything. Definitely not the restaurant's fault.

Local, sustainable, delicious, and affordable make Local Root a great choice for Streeterville! Recommendable app choices include brie en croute and mussels, which our server happily brought us an additional baguette for sopping up the broth. The crab cake app suffices as an entree choice (2 crab cakes and perfect amount of arugula in a piquant lemon and caper dressing). For a much larger selection, the pulled pork sandwich is a great choice (comes on a pretzel bun), as is the seasonal saute baguette and fennel apple salad with champagne chicken. Very reasonable wine bottle list. Unfortunately all these delicious items led to no room for dessert, but with the observance of the seasons, additional visits are in order!
