Local Restaurant and Bar Ratings and Reviews
We were in town for one night and chose Local to have dinner. This was our first visit here. The hostess offered to check my coat, a service rarely offered anywhere. Our server didn't blink an eye when I ordered a deconstructed burger. I asked for the brussel sprouts instead of fries and was accommodated. Those veggies were one of the best parts of my meal!
My husband ordered the buffalo short ribs. He is usually not up to trying new things, and I was happy he found the dish delicious. A shared creme brulee with a perfectly torched top was the perfect ending to our meal.
My wife and I were so happy to catch a reservation at Local while on our vacation to celebrate my 40th birthday. We had the truffle fries, steaks, au gratin potatoes, and chipotle cream corn. I would definitely not order the cream corn again unless you are a HUGE chipotle fan. It was really rich, but other than that, great (we just weren't in for that level of flavor). Food was fantastic, steaks were cooked to absolute perfection, cuts were top-notch. Not much else to say on that front. Martini's were excellent, other alcohol items looked good but I did not try them. Overall it was $185 after tip for my wife and I, and worth every penny. If you are up for a great meal, it's for you. Ambiance-wise, I don't know what it is with the Rocky's but the dark, heavy interior is the norm. Local does a decent job lightening it up and making it modern, but it's a little more enclosed than I prefer (but to be fair it's in a strip mall).
We so enjoy the food, wait staff but not the noise leave. We had 4 couples that asked us before and after our dinner about the noise level. Our response was that it was so loud you could hardly hear your people at your table. Hope they do something about it. Too many hard surfaces. Good luck.
We were visiting Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks and stayed 4 nights in Jackson. We had dinner at Local twice and hit the happy hour twice as well. Service was friendly and upbeat. Food was excellent. Very nice atmosphere. The bar scene in the evening is very lively, but the dining area is isolated enough that the noise does not spill over. Easy walking distance from most anywhere in Jackson as it is located in the center of town.
We traveled to Jackson Hole, WY for our honeymoon and this was our "fancy" meal of the trip. Local did not disappoint! I chose Local because the homemade sausages and cheeses looked so different than anything we ever have in Kansas. The look and feel of the restaurant was so warm and inviting even on a cold, rainy September night. My new husband said the cocktail, The Local, had the best brandied cherries he'd ever tasted. The server also recommended an excellent Spanish wine. Earlier that day we went fly fishing with Grand Teton Fly Fishing so that's all we talked about late into the evening and we will always remember Local as the spot we reminisced as our favorite day of the trip.
The Local Restaurant and Bar is different because it is popular with many visitors and liked by many but I found the food no better than "so-so" at best. The noise level can be ear shattering when busy so beware. The service was passable and the food was just not that good. What else is there to say.
local has an amazing happy hour packing the house with all sorts of diners. Our dinner was good however no where as distinguishable as the referrals had led on. My husbands bison was over cooked and my food while good was not amazing. This is a good place not great!
Had a reservation and were seated quickly! Server was a nice waiter but forgot crab cakes we ordered as appetizer which was ok but then food took forever to get. Food quality was not good at all and the extras small plates we got with dinner we’re terrible other than the potatoes and they were the highlight of dinner.
Really excellent local sourced meats. My ribeye was very tender and flavorful. Large portion.
Partner's filet also excellent. Huge side dishes, share 'em! I don't normally go for iceberg lettuce, but the wedge with pork belly and blue cheese was very good. Nice, but pricey wine list.
Wildly popular, busy and boisterous place on the square. The place has a chain restaurant feel to it. Had the sautéed trout and coq a vin which were very good. The Caesar salad was pedestrian and bland. The cheese plate came with accompaniments would have been more appropriate on a meat charcuterie plate. Had the strawberry-rhubarb crisp and loved the polenta topping but the acidic filling had reacted with the cast iron it was served in and tasted soapy in areas. Water had an old refrigerator taste so had to order bottled water. Staff was efficient but perfunctory; they don’t smile much and seem so over the tourist trade. I got the bill while I was eating dessert and so we took the hint and left quickly.
They rushed us throughout our meal which is unpleasant. The server reached across me to clear a plate rather than walking around the table, and cleared three plates while the fourth person was still eating. The meal was only fine. This used to be my favorite restaurant in Jackson, but the food quality and hospitality have gone down over time.
Local is one of our favorites in town. As always, ambiance and service were great. We had awesome appetizers (buffalo tartar and watermelon salad) which didn't disappoint. Two in our party ordered the elk chops. Perfectly done but honestly not a ton of flavor. Would have done well with a sweet sauce (i.e.huckleberry) which wasn't an option. That being said, the sides they opted for were wonderful. Another in the group had the trout which was damn DELICIOUS. (truly the winner), and one had the butternut rotollo pasta which was a mistake. Bottom line is that we still recommend Local and will return, but next time will pass on the pasta and stick with the fish.
They are just not keeping their standards unfortunately. We have had several really good meals there but this time no... sides were stone cold, the sprouts were a little odd to me with chunks of strawberries in them. Service was disinterested something we have never encountered here before and the fillet was a strange grainy texture not the buttery melt in your mouth we have had before it was also overdone for medium. Sad as this was such a great place I hope they can get their quality control back again.
Unique and delicious cuisine. We started with an appetizer platter with two types of game sausage, duck pastrami, three cheeses, marinated veggies, whole grain mustard and a lick the plate chutney. Two of had the trout and two of us had the ribeye steaks. The trout people enjoyed their entree and the accompaniments. The steaks were prepared as ordered and were very tasty despite not being aged. Dessert was a special treat. We ordered the strawberry rhubarb crisp and key lime panna cotta. Both were excellent. They had a very nice wine and brandy list which we took advantage of.
Our server Chris was excellent steering us to some really good eats.
