Local Kitchen & Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
Disappointing experience. The cannelloni was served with no sauce. The bolognese on the spaghetti wasn't a sauce but was dry with chopped up greasy meatballs. The cocktails were overly sweet and syrupy. While the ambience is nice, it is a little cramped when busy.
The restaurant itself was hip and cool....there was a nice buzz and it was a cosy romantic spot. Unfortunately the wait staff rushed us like we were in a fast food restaurant. Our sever asked four times if we were ready to order and we had only been seated for under 5 minutes. Moments later our drinks arrived and our first course was served before we had a chance to sip our wine. Before we had even finished our salads the plates were removed and our second courses placed before us..The food was good but we were in and out in 45 minutes, not at all relaxing. Even though we had a reservation, they must have needed the table for other customers. Sad because we were looking forward to our evening.
Was worried reading negative reviews about portion size and service but neither of these were issues. The pasta was fabulous as were the dandelion salad and trout. We shared a mozzarella for the table which was delicious but it would not have been pleasant to eat by yourself. It's too large.
The only draw back were the chairs which were a little hard after 2 hours. Great desserts too but unfortunately no lattes or cappuccino.
Had the mussels which no chef clearly checked as they were super small. Rainbow trout was cooked well but the autumn beans were just white beans and the roasted corn was not roasted. Cod was beautifully cooked but the cacciatore had no flavour. Disappointing experience and will not go back.
My husband and I started going to this restaurant when it first opened it or nine years ago and even though we have tried dozens of other amazing restaurant since then, we keep coming back to Lokal kitchen and Wine bar for our special celebration such as birthday dinners and anniversaries. This food can't leave each, the atmosphere is cosy and romantic and you can tell how passionate the owner, chefs and staff are. We love it here!
Went for summerlicious and it was excellent! Loved the stuffed mascarpone and truffles pasta entree most of all - and also the mussels and porcini appetizer. Dessert was sorbet and my friend shared her beignets and both were delicious. Cozy atmosphere. One of my favourite summerlicious experiences ever!
Wasn’t cheap but u get what u pay for. Each dish was done with soul and love. Attention to detail and ingredients was top notch. You can taste the difference. Desert was REAL strawberry ice cream that gave u the feeling u were eating at the farm and grandma herself made it.
Local Kitchen has become one of my favorite restaurants the food is always GREAT fresh homemade authentic! The service is also great right from the waitresses to the owners Fab and Mike. If your looking for great food and nice ambiance or a great date night this is the place to be! See you guys soon! :)
Great appetizers. Quality and taste was good. The mussels were really good with the cream sauce and bread crumbs. The cod of the day was well executed- nice sear and flavorful. However the pasta dishes were really small portions. The stuffed pastas were not worth the price. I would go back for wine and apps but not entrees.
Love this little neighbourhood spot. It has a great vibe, the food is outstanding and the wines and cocktails are equally as enjoyable.. The service is always attentive. The owner and chef put a lot of effort not only into the food but the overall experience. The specials are seasonal and sourced locally and should not be missed.
The gnocchi was not so much actual gnocchi, but more balls of mashed potatoes. Tasted sandy and granular. Portions were lacking and no vegetables or anything else with any of the meals. The porkchop was literally just a hunk of meat on the plate (most of which was bone anyways). Too expensive for what we got, and the food quality was not acceptable.
Four of us shared the mozzarella and the brussel sprouts - excellent !
Mains were well prepared and artfully displayed
Coffee machine was broken - no coffee or tea ....minor inconvenience - desserts sounded delicious - we opted for the cheese plate
We would definitely return !
The Giro d'Italia prix fixe menu was incredible in taste, variety and value. Our server was attentive and the food was a perfect; quality ingredients, cooked to perfection (gnocchi very notable!) with inventive presentation. Not a place for a quiet date, but warm, wonderful and inviting all the same.
Service is exceptional from start to finish. Tiny place with tight seating but it's just all part of the vibe. Food is good, chicken liver pate is so silky and flavourful. Warm mozzarella is good but it not well dressed and requires a more complimentary garnish. Salad's and pasta's are delish. Mains are good but a bit to salty for our taste and lacking in flavour. Beef cheek melts in your mouth.
