Local Chop & Grill House Ratings and Reviews
The Local Chop and Grill House was wonderful. Not only was the server friendly, but she went out of her way to make sure my food was gluten free and light dairy. The chef even accommodated me with a special salad dressing that was not on the menu but paired well with the beet salad I ordered. Both my husband’s and my meal was delicious! Meals are farm to table so some items change with the seasons and are very creative. Excellent all around! Be sure to make a reservation especially on busy nights!
This is probably the best steakhouse in Harrisonburg, but that may not be the standard by which you judge a good steak. Lacking is a decent executive chef or grill chef or presumably they wouldn’t encourage patrons to cover the flavor of the cut with a selection of rubs and sauces (at least they didn’t offer A-1 or ketchup). Don’t expect an exceptional, bone-in option but do expect a steak cooked properly to your request and a nice selection of local brews all at a reasonable price.
We were visiting grandson at college for the day. This was a great place for a delicious steak dinner for him as a treat from cafeteria food. Scallops were delicious too. There was good variety of sides and all were tasty. Service was prompt and food was hot.
Such a fantastic restaurant if you're in the area. We were on a two day trip to Shenandoah national park as well as to frequent a few Virginia vineyards and we desired a nicer end place for dinner. The area is filled with chains and we wanted a local place to enjoy our vacation. The wine list is unique and the glass that I chose was a great cabernet. Our waiter was very researched in the menu and made great suggestions. He also could answer our dietary concerns which is always appreciated. My girlfriend had the filet mignon and I chose a local aged steak. They were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The sides were great and we were very satisfied. If I'm ever back in the area I would definitely return and highly recommend it to anyone. It is a delightful place to spend an evening having dinner.
My wife and I ordered Filet Mignon with two sides. We ordered them medium/well but both were WAY over cooked. We should have sent them back, but didn't due to a lack of time.
The portions were miniscule, but the bill was Gigantic! Not too impressed by this joint!
The ambiance and look of the restaurant were great. However, we waited 10 minutes for a waiter to greet us and take our drink order. It was as though they forgot that they sat my husband and I in the corner. Once we placed our drink order, we waited a LONG time for our appetizer and drinks to arrive and almost an hour after arriving we were finally eating our dinner. If the restaurant was busy we would have understood, but there were open tables everywhere and it was a Monday night. Overall the food was good and the service was terrible. We would not advise eating at this restaurant.
The food was good, however the description of my wife's salad was a a little misleading. It was supposed to have hard boiled duck egg on it, but we could not find it. The excellent waiter explained that it was "crumbles of duck egg". If that was the case then they were microscopic!
Apart from that we had a very good meal, but I personally think it and the wine were over priced.
We loved our dinner at Local Chop House. They used locally sourced food for the most part. Very fresh, not overdone presentation. We shared the pork belly and sweet potato appetizers. Highly recommend both. I had the duck breast with pimento cheese grits and green beans. My husband had a steak. We both loved our meals. And get the salted caramel ice cream! Delish!
Nice venue in renovated old building. If we ever happen to be in this town again, we will definitely stop by!
