We get drunk off the high end drinks!
Ny husband and I appreiated the thoughtful presentation and contemporary flavor combinations (carmelized fennel panna cotta with parsnip ice cream!). The service was excellent and the food beautiful and delicious. We look forward to dining there again on our next trip to Portland.
Dessert was imaginative and tasted incredible - caramelized fennel panna cotta with ricotta and pepper jelly, parsnip ice cream and blood orange sorbet. Excellent!
Very good experience. Very good service. Open floor plan fun to be in. One bar, watching the kitchen, is a great place for two to dine. Our fourth visit.
Absolutely amazing food and service. It's one of our favorite Portland restaurants.
The food was very good, but quite pricey for the amount you get. Ambiance was nice, but a little low key for what we were looking for. We were accommodated even though we were very late which was much appreciated.
Very attentive and personable servers. Great desserts. Very good food.
The menu seemed quite promising, with dishes from several cuisine traditions. the presentation was good, but the flavoring of the dishes was a bit disappointing.
It was difficult to carry on a conversation with more than one person. The restaurant atmosphere is visually pleasing, but the large room and tin ceiling are designed to create a lively atmosphere that is -- frankly -- noisy.
We frequently go to Local 188, great tapas for sharing and main meal if you do not feel like sharing. The deviled eggs are a favorite, we also shared the cheese platter with a generous amount of cheese and the meat platter and lastly shared the hanger steak (which is a meal for one). Our service was wonderful and the people fun to be around
We have been here multiple times and we always have a great time! They have an extensive wine list and the food is tasty! The ricotta gnocchi, hanger steak, paella, and swordfish are some of the dishes we had and we were happy with our choices.
Many times I have walked past local 188 - this was the first time to stop in and what a treat - a hidden gem in plain view- staff were very informed as to the wonderful choices on the menu - food was out of this world - beautifully cooked and presented - drinks were good too!! Hope to return soon.
Paella was a classic! Varied tapas and comfy seating. What else is there?
Our place to go to when we want good food, wine and service with a comfortable neighborhood feel. Always a mix of patrons. A positive vibe.
My friends and I were very satisfied with the whole experience at Local 188. Our server was funny, and efficient and took care of us well despite the very full dining room! Food was interesting and really delicious. Extensive beer list. Loved it!
Great food and drinks. Everything I've ever had a Local has been outstanding.
We were disappointed with the seafood paella. The mussels, though plentiful, were tiny and dry. There weren't many shrimp. The scallops were few and almost burned. The flavor of the sauce was good, though.
Second visit. Had brined chicken. Excellent! A mid week visit. Can get busy on weekends.
Nice venue, informal and comfortable, interesting menu, moderate price
we were a group of 3 vegetarians, one of whom is gluten free and one with no diet restrictions. There were plenty of delicious, tasty choices. Wonderful choice of tapas (a bit expensive for the deviled eggs and fried garlic) but really no complaints in taste and we enjoyed them. The risotto was very flavorful. Creative cocktails. Good desert. The banana cake was amazing. Noisy. Great service and a fun time.
Excellent food preparation of excellent dishes. You cannot find better food in Portland, and that is saying something!
Our party consisted of six women. We were seated promptly in a relatively quiet area as we had requested. The menu was varied enough so that we all found several selections to choose from. All our entrees were well prepared and very good. Our waitress was professional and attentive. The restaurant itself is attractive and has a comfortable evening vibe. This was my third visit and I will go again.
we had to use our flashlight on phone to read menu
the "carrot cake" had way too many raisins and nutmeg and crumbling it up just didn't work
otherwise everything was good
Our second visit to Local 188 was as great as the first. A favorite stop for date night. Get the deviled eggs!
First time in Portland. Was not disappointed by the city, the people, or the food. Local 188 is a fantastic spot and the food was particularly tasty. Our waitress was really attentive and really good about giving recommendations and her particular favorites, which is something that I always like to hear. Thanks Local 188, you helped make it a great first trip. See you next time I'm on Portland!
Everything the food was delicious
Service top notch
We liked it so much we got brunch the next day

Great good. Fantastic service right in the heart of a great city. Enjoyed it immensely.
Famous for it's paella, ours was delivered overcooked, i.e. rice was dry, shells were charred, etc. The kitchen made another which was excellent and took half off that entree bill. Server resisted taking the dish back, offering alternative choices and advising it would take 30-40 min to re do the dish. We did want the paella as we heard great things and indeed it was terrific. we received much less attention from our server once we decided to have the kitchen re do the paella. I don't think we behaved in a way to offend our server, but she seemed less amiable. All the other dishes at our table were top notch and I would certainly return because of the food. As long as the friendly service we received before the incident remains, it could become a regular stop for us.
Hidden gem. Exceeded expectations. Great service and excellent food. Being from out of town, regret there will not be a next time.
The portions of the chicken entree were so small as to be laughable. They even crowded it over to one little side of the plate leaving 90% of the plate empty. This is not my experience of 4 months ago. What happened??
We celebrated our daughter's 21st birthday at Local 188. Food, service - everything was perfect!
Our visit to Portland was capped off with dinner at Local 188. The paella was excellent. Not an easy dish to prepare but we had both the classic (with the chorizo) and the seafood (with scallops and fish) and the kitchen did a great job of getting the rice done perfectly while the shellfish was not overdone. Our only complaint was the time it took to get our paella -- apparently it was a big paella night and we had to wait longer than our appetites liked. But our party ordered tapas (the blackened spicy scallops were a big hit) and we enjoyed the beer samples as well as the good selection of wines. Happily, we were then treated to three complimentary desserts by the restaurant. The desserts were delightful especially the peach pie.
Excellent steak and paella dishes. Desserts were very interesting and unusual. Hyperactive 4 year old next to us, controlled by parents, but distracting. Wish they had have seated us elsewhere but it was awkward to ask to move once we were there. There were other seats.
Fantastic cocktails, excellent tapas and a server who was absolutely perfect.
Great ambiance--relaxed, not fussy. Great wait staff--prompt without constantly hovering over your table. Great food--the Spanish tortilla and the paella were well executed.
Been here many times. Recently went here as a date with my boyfriend. It has just the right special occasion feel. Food presentation is always beautiful.
Good cocktails, good starters, and the paella. The paella. The paella.
A very cool atmosphere! Our server was great - super friendly and personable. The food was AMAZING. They stayed true to the traditional in many dishes and put their own, great flare on some other dishes. The kitchen is in the main room which is fun to be able to watch, but makes for a little bit of a smokey atmosphere. It was fine for me though! It was a great night and I can't wait to go back.
Been to Local many times. The food is always top notch. Menu changes with new dishes to try.
We enjoyed our meal very much. We had mussels as an appetizer-very tasty. Our entrée was a seafood paella, which included mussels, scallops, & halibut, with a generous portion of nicely seasoned rice (so much that we couldn't finish all the rice). They offered a lot of interesting cocktails- I had a martini based on gin infused with grapefruit, which was unusual & refreshing. The atmosphere was comfortable & casual. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. They have a parking lot in back of the restaurant, with an entrance through what appears to be an alley way (there is a small sign to direct you). In a city which is not loaded with multiple ethnic options, it was nice to have a Spanish place like this.
The cuisine is superb, and the wait staff is particularly attentive. Whether my friend and I visit for a romantic date night, or bring the kids and grand kids, the staff always makes us feel very welcomed and appreciated. The prices are a bit deer, but one gets what one pays for. We've never been disappointed with any dish or drink.
