The Lobster Shop restaurants have been operating since 1977, offering some of the Pacific Northwest’s favorite seafood dishes.
The restaurant sits over the waters of Commencement Bay, offering breathtaking views of both Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountain Range.
During the summer months the restaurant offers outdoor dining and with a dock available for boaters, makes for an excellent day getaway.
Lobster Shop has always been the place where the South Sound loves to celebrate; whether a birthday, anniversary or promotion you just can't beat the atmosphere.
Annually rated by the well known Zagat Survey, Lobster Shop takes a great deal of pride in making sure that every experience is a memorable one. We look forward to serving you soon.
Our server was a Rachel she really went out of her way to celebrate our anniversary excellent attitude and demeanor definitely going back again soon
I have loved this restaurant and the original Lobster Shop since I first moved to Tacoma in 1973. some of the best seafood in town. Wonderful in the fall and winter, even better in the summer.
We have NEVER been disappointed in the Lobster Shop
We waited so long before they serve the food and they gave a different or food subtitute without telling us.
Service was good and friendly but not very knowledgeable about their list of beverages or ingredients in meals. The décor was nice and was upgraded since our last visit. Views were beautiful on the sound even though rainy and cold. In nice weather the outdoor deck would be fun to go and have cocktails. Food was good but not outstanding. I had the Lobster tail it was a bit over cooked and my husband had the steak and lobster tail... and for the price it should be outstanding. Not exciting but not disappointing. We were there for our anniversary and spent $200 for 2 of us and were not offered any free desert ect.. which you pretty get even at Red Robin. Was disappointed over that.
Always a "go-to" place for our special occasions - birthdays, anniversaries, etc - and other times when a nice friendly open scenic seafood place is just the place to be!
My husband and I came for the first time to The Lobster Shop to celebrate my husband’s birthday. It was the best meal I’ve EVER had! Lobster dip is crazy-delicious! Lobster tails were so tender. It was nothing short of ammazing! Before we ended our evening, we made reservations for Sunday brunch. We can’t wait to come back. Love, love, LOVE!!
Great food, great views of Commencement Bay, and good service. Dinner with a friend on a Monday night during restaurant week allowed us to try new seasonal dishes. I had the seafood curry and it was filled with mussels, clams, salmon and prawns all in a flavorful curry sauce. A bowl of lobster bisque and a chocolate cupcake for dessert sent me home full and happy. I would recommend the Lobster Shop for a casual Monday dinner or for a special occasion. My family and friends make this a regular stop in our restaurant rotation.
This was a celebration dinner with my daughter and son-in-law. They both served our country in the US Marine Corp and just got out to pursue new careers. They are also expecting their first child, so we celebrated. The bread and dip was very good. We ordered chicken, steak and prawns. The salads were crisp and delicious. The chicken was very juicy and the gravy divine. The steak was medium well and melted in my mouth. The prawns were cooked to perfection. For dessert we had crème brule, gluten free chocolate cake and our waiter brought a celebration sundae. Everything was absolutely wonderful!
I've always appreciated Lobster Shop - Ruston Way for its stunning views, ambiance and service. It's one of the few restaurants with a controlled noise level that allows for intimate conversation. However, I avoided them for a couple of years because their menu seemed tired and limited. How delightful my recent visit was! I found new creativity and variety in their menu options, and a renewed emphasis on quality. The food was delicious, well-presented, and prepared to order. I'll be back for future lunches with dear friends and business associates.
Awkward beginning to Restaurant Week. Brought the wrong salad. Ran out of entree. Switched desserts too. Coffee was lukewarm. Sigh. How does the Lobster Shop run out of lobster?
The food was fantastic for brunch and every time I go the service is excellent. There is one gal that works the front desk that shouldn't be at the front desk, she's phony and grumpy, not the spot for her.
Our go-to place for Sunday brunch. It never fails to impress. Always a great variety of very fresh seafood along with the brunch favorites; cook-to-order omelets, prime rib and waffles!
Never a disappointment and everything is always very good, fast & pleasant service. My favorite place to go in my local area. Always recommend to everyone!
Had a beautiful view of the water from our window table. Service was great. Nice main course dishes and even divided our split entrees. The peanut butter pie was to die for!!
this is one of my favorite places to go to in Tacoma. i love the view and food. however, the front desk should be more warm , friendly and approachable.
Great place for a special occasion. Waterfront dining is wonderful.
Amazing food, polite staff! The view was breathtaking.
The service was excellent, the atmosphere and view were great but the food was not as good as I expected. I had the New York steak and my wife had the 12 oz. Maine Lobster. My steak was done to order (rare) but was not very tender and needed to be seasoned. My wife's lobster also lacked flavor even when dipped in their butter sauce. Conversely, the potatoes and vegetables were very flavorful. We had an appetizer called Lobster Dip that was also excellent.
It was a wonderful birthday celebration. The lobster was amazing. Thank you for making this visit special. We will be back. 😘
Lovely Easter weekend dinner on a very busy night. Good value on the early menu. Sat next to the window and had an Easter surprise of eggs and Momma goose.
Great location with good food. Staff were able to accommodate our seating request allowing us to enjoy the wonderful view while dining.
We always love coming to the Lobster Shop South for a memorable evening and again, they did not disappoint.
Fantastic service from Tina and the food was delicious. We’d gone to the Green Turtle in Gig Harbor the weekend before in hopes of having a great seafood dinner. Everything Green Turtle lacked (service, food quality and flavor) the Lobster Shop had in abundance. We’ll be happy to come back in the future.
Great menu choices for everyone in your party. Fabulous service from the moment we stepped into the restaurant. Great food, tasty beverages. We left with happy tummies and wonderful memories.
We celebrated our anniversary with another couple and had a corner window seat that was spectacular. The waiter Justin, was polite and efficient. He even brought us complimentary ice cream sundaes. The grilled Maine lobster served over mashed potatoes with arugula on the side was great! Our favorite seafood restaurant!
Lobster Shop never disappoints. Food is always great, not to mention the superb service we had while celebrating my son's bday. It's a wonderful place to relax, laugh and ultimately create beautiful moments with your family and friends.
Loved the variety of foods offered at Brunch and the service was outstanding. The only issue we had was the eggs benedict. The eggs were over poached, and more hard boiled, which was a bit disappointing.
We were in town for the weekend about 2 hours from home. I would drive that far for this brunch...it was the best brunch ever!!!
Been there many times. Bacon and sausage were cold but tasty. They have always made me eggs over easy at the omelette station but they said it needed to be made in the kitchen. No problem except it took a long time. Tasted great. Bloody Mary was excellent. No special handling of my wife’s birthday. Great view
friendly and efficient service with great tasting food
Our meal was exceptional, beginning from our Sampler Appetizer and drinks, Red Wine Flight for myself and French 75 cocktail for my husband, all the way to our desserts. I also slurped down half a dozen raw oysters, I could easily have eaten a couple dozen more with the special cocktail sauce and mignonette provided.
Husband’s entree was Crab Stuffed Halibut, I had the Cioppino which was perfectly cooked, the seafood was tender, the sauce delicious, served with rice. For dessert we had the Apple Cranberry Crisp and Peanut Butter Pie. And whatever the olive oil dip served with warm bread is, I intended to ask if I could order some to go, it is that delicious. I even soaked the leftover bread in the dip and took it home with my other leftovers, I was not leaving any in the bowl to be wasted.
Really great place to go for any occasion. Very friendly staff and great food. Can be a little spendy
Enjoyed the wonderful view, nice service and good food.
Every seat is a great seat there. Our waiter was fantastic and the food was excellent. Looking forward to taking family back there for special events.
Celebrating our 20th anniversary. Our waitress was exceptional. We had the lobster artichoke appetizer, it was okay. It was not hot and too salty. My husband had the lamb chop special and he absolutely loved it. I had the salmon and it was served with wild rice and brocolini. I thought the salmon was okay, really lacked seasoning. I’m sure that had we complained the waitress would have made things right. We chose not to
I love this place and the food. I am happy every time i go. This time, we came for my husbands birthday and it was as on point as usual. Our waitress was fun and even took a pic with my husband while he blew out his birthday candles on his ice cream sunday!!!
This was our children’s 13th Birthday and they did not do anything special. However, Honor said Happy Birthday , and it was appreciated.
Our server, Honor, was very attentive and had a cool name.
Lovely waterfront location, especially stunning on a clear, sunny day! We were last seating (1:30) for the Sunday brunch and felt that the offerings were not replenished in a timely manner or not at all. No salmon remaining for the last hour and we had to pick out grapes one at a time from a nearly empty fruit platter.
