Lloyd's Ratings and Reviews
Lloyd's was fine as a business meal, though it is overpriced and the wait staff tries to pick up your dishes before you've even finished them as if to move you out of the restaurant as quickly as possible. If I'm going to pay $20+ for a meal, you'd think they would be a little more courteous in that respect.
We had a 8pm reservation and the place was empty. Service was very slow as they were cleaning and getting ready to close at 9pm. The food was good but we felt like we were more of a nuisance. It is likely a great place to be earlier in the night but expect to be a thorn if you get there late.
Went to Lloyds for pre opera dinner with family including two teenagers. Service was outstanding and food delicious. Fun ,comfortable atmosphere. Spacious dining room . Right across from the Lyric Opera and offering parking . Perfect for a pre performance dinner.
Always a delightful AND affordable meal. Pre-opera throughout the season so they fill up and the staff knows what's up so their timing is impeccable. Friendly, professional, validated parking and eager to attend to and please any palate. The menu is simple and uncomplicated. Some of the best hamburgers, corned beef as well as beef tenderloin and fancier-type food selections. Hard to do but leave room for desserts. They are special and filling.
I think this is a great place with a wonderful location. Perfect, of course, for the Lyric Opera fan. Downtowners and those leaving the many office buildings.
I want to emphasis that the desk staff, waiters, buss boys and kitchen staff work together to provide an incredible meal... usually in a short period of time. Makes me wonder how they do it??!!
Our server handled what seemed like a whole half of the restaurant, and she did so with a smile. I also appreciated that way she looked guests in the eye when communicating. That helped with my friend, who is a senior. We'll definitely be back before the next opera!
We were running a little late, but they had our table ready and waiting. The server was very pleasant and attentive but it was the food that won the night! I had steak and cake. It was the best steak I have ever eaten!! Cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. The crab cake was excellent and the sides were wonderful. To top everything off, we were surprised with a birthday dessert! Would definitely go back and would recommend highly!
We have eaten at this restaurant many times with another couple and have most often had an enjoyable experience. This was not such an occasion. We had to ask for a bread basket. The food was not prepared as requested. The waiter never returned to the table to check on things unless flagged down by other personnel. Items on the separate checks were mixed up. It was busy night and the staff may have been overworked but we did notice other tables getting the attention they deserved. Hopefully this was just an off night but we won't be hurrying back to see.
My wife choose Lloyds because it was across the street from the Opera House. We had no idea what to really expect. Our service person was very nice and knew that we had to be out by no later than 7:15 and she did a very good job on taking care of us. My birthday was Oct 6th so she also brought us a very nice complimentary dessert for us to share. When being seated we ordered to Vodka's on the rocks with blue cheese olives. You pour a good drink as so many times in the city you get a small drink accompanied by a high price so again we were very pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Braised Short Ribs and they were very good. My wife ordered a salad and pea soup both of which she liked a lot. We plan on going to Lloyds every time we have occasion to go the Civic Opera House. We have also already mentioned Lloyds to several friends. Great to be able to have a dinner together where the ambiance is very nice, you can have a pleasant conversation without having to shout, the service and overall hospitality are far better than average and that you can enjoy good food and beverages without tapping out your financial resources.
An evening at the Lyric Opera means dinner beforehand at Lloyd's. Angel was our waiter once again. He is outstanding! We had a scallop dish, steak tacos, beet salad, and key lime pie...and wine.
The food was excellent. The location across from Lyric is very convenient...and discounted parking - a winning combination! We will be back in October.
We have dined here a number of times and the food just keeps getting better. They have a strong seafood menu and they know how to cook it. They don't mind splitting plates for seniors (which we are). We had shrimp and pasta and it was delicious. Their salads are excellent as well. They have a varied, but not huge, menu and enough good wines to choose from. They always have their yummy crab and corn chowder. We had a wonderful waiter named Joe the last time we were there. Lloyd's is across the street from Chicago's Lyric Opera and is the ideal place to dine before a performance.
My sister and I dine at Lloyd's frequently during opera season. The food is always hot and delicious, the wait staff is friendly and efficient, and we always get out on time - we haven't missed a curtain yet. I'm working my way through the dinner menu. The short rib gnocchi and the Dijon Lake Superior whitefish are two entrees I've ordered repeatedly. On my last visit I had the lemon chicken, which was tender and flavorful. My sister and I have tried other restaurants before the opera, but we always come back to Lloyd's.
Give me a break. We had an 11:30am reservation. We were pretty close to the first people in the restaurant. 95% empty at the time we arrived. Even so, the hostess "tried" to seat my client and me in the back room. I told her to move us to the main area. Get real Lloyd's!!!
I had asked the waiter for his recommendation and ordered the Taco Salad with chicken. The lettuce was soggy, and the chicken didn't seemed to be cooked all the way or it was not a good piece of chicken breast. My first time there - I would try it again but definitely did not enjoy the salad. My co-worker also ordered the Taco Salad and she felt the same way, didn't like it at all.
