Lloyd's Ratings and Reviews
I have become a regular diner at Lloyd's. It's an excellent "package" for my purposes, and is very handy for anyone who is seeing a performance at the Lyric Opera House, which is directly across the street. Lloyd's menu provides lots of variety, the food is very tasty, especially in light of the very reasonable prices. We have always found the service to be good: friendly (but not overbearing), attentive, helpful. I recommend it highly to anyone who will be in this area for whatever purposes.
This is our go to spot pre opera. The menu is varied enough for any mood and the fish and steaks are delicious! They understand time constraints and make sure we are out in plenty of time. The food has never disappointed and the service is always top notch.
A friend from out of town was in for the wee and three of us decided on dinner at Lloyd's. It is convenient to both Union Station and Ogilvie Transportation Center; also near the loop. The atmosphere is Upscale Urban and the booths are quiet enough for conversation. The wine list was extensive. Th hummus was good, but the Calamari was outstanding, light and crunchy. The Sesame Seared Yellowfin Tuna was excellent, as was the Dijon Lake Superior Whitefish and the Fish and Chips. The Martinis good but quite strong. All in all, I'd say we will be back to Lloyd's for more great seafood!
The food was really good, and good portions. I had the blackened chicken sandwich, crab and corn chowder and my co-worker ordered the salmon and tomato soup. Wait staff was attentive without pestering. Big plus! My only complaint would be that it was a little too dark. It would be nice for a romantic evening but for two old friends catching up and laughing about the good ol days....could've used a tad bit more light.
Despite the pleasant ambiance and good service, the food was very uneven. The "corn and crab" chowder was a white sauce with corn, but no discernable crab. My fish was very good, but the carrots and rice were cold. "Fried rice" was just white rice stained brown with a little soy sauce, but only 3 bean sprouts, and none of the other things that usually go into fried rice.
The ambiance in the main part of the restaurant is great, but we were seated in the annex. Otherwise, everything was great. It was a pre-opera lunch and the place was very crowded. But our reservation was honored and we were seated promptly. Food and service were both excellent.
Lunch took over an hour. Server was slow to take orders, food was brought out slightly cooler than desired after a long wait, server didn't come by with bill for a long time. Portions were fairly small.
I guess they were just busy, but when I'm paying ~$20 per lunch, I expected better.
Nothing was terrible, just find it hard to repeat service after this visit.
Lloyd's is a gem of a find for those seeking a quick business lunch in heart of loop. A bit oversize with compact wall to wall tables, offers lean promptings for romantics (me), I'm sure corporates love it. My meal was the fresh house salad w Blackened Salmon and flavorful house chowder would have been a bit more comforting if warmer for a windy city rainy day. Overall, a solid pick for closing the deal!
Perfect place to meet for lunch during the week. Waiter was attentive, but not to the point of being annoying. Food was very good and served quickly. Dined here with a college friend I haven’t seen in years. We stayed well over an hour but never felt rushed. I’d recommend having a reservation.
Everyone was very nice, but at the end of the day, a restaurant review is mainly about the food. I ordered a salad with salmon on it. The salmon was delicious, the the salad was very bland. I do not like an overdressed salad, and this was not overdressed, but the dressing had no taste to it. My mom ordered a sandwich with a specific dietary request and it came out wrong. We had trouble getting the waiter back to the table, and once he took the sandwich away so they could re-do it, it took far too long to get it back. He apologized and was very nice, but the food was not that good and the wait was too long. Won't go back unless we're going to opera.
Our pre-Lyric Opera visit did not start out well. We were seated right away for our 5 p.m. reservation however no one came to bring us water, bread or wait on us until we asked for assistance. This after the folks seated right next to us moments after our arrival were offered a booth (they didn't even ask - it was the waiters' idea!). No such offer came our way so I felt somewhat slighted from the start. Once it was determined who our waiter was things got somewhat better although he was no stellar employee. I will say the food was excellent. The fried calamari was some of the best I've had - nothing chewy here - just light and delicate. I had a scallop special with mango that was amazing. My husband had a seafood pasta dish which he loved. I would eat here again for the food and because it is so conveniently located to Lyric. Perhaps we will have one of the more amazing wait staff (which we witnessed) next time.
I love coming here before going to the opera. Great location, food & drinks. They are very accommodating as we arrived very early for our reservation. The place was packed and a holiday party was going on. Still good service in spite of them being super busy. Love the warm atmosphere too!
