It is so convenient to dine here before we go to the opera across the street. The gluten free menu is wonderful.
Great experience! Can’t wait to go back again!
Going to a show to Lyric Opera with mu daughter
Our choice when going to the opera. Service is quick without being overly rushed. Food is always very good with specials added for great variety. If you want something lighter, there are tacos and sandwiches on the dinner menu. Their salmon is prepared just right and not overly cooked. This time it was served with a warm kale salad that was excellent. Their service staff is excellent and attentive. There is a bar scene but not as noisy as other places. We have tired several other restaurants around the Lyric - this is the best.
Not a 4.5 star venue. Yes, it's convenient to the opera but the clam chowder reminded me of Campbell's from a can and the fish and chips was well below my standard. Brehon Pub and O'Shaugnasy's have much better.
They always honor our seat request. Great food.
There were five of us that ate at Lloyd's before the Leonard Bernstein concert at the Lyric Opera House on Sat. March 10th. The food was excellent and the location was great for attending a program at the Lyric.
We ate there before heading over to the Lyric Opera House. Great food, great service and convenient.
We have been dining here for years after work. After they changed the menu a few years ago there was improvement in the quality of the meals that came to the table. Now dishes that arrive areonce again tired, bland and lukewarm. No problems with service which is always pleasant.
Too bad; we’re finding an alternative site
We have been to LLoyd's many times, and we shall be there many more times. It is a great spot and we recommend it to others. However, our last visit I ordered the skirt steak which I have ordered before and really enjoyed. This time it was a disappointment. Don't know if the chef failed to marinate or run it through a tenderizer before grilling, but it was shoe tongue tough.
Forgettable food, atmosphere and service but great location.
Some of it was great, some so-so. Calamari appetizer was excellent. House salad was ho-hum.. crab cakes were excellent, nice size mostly meat without filler. Mixed vegetables were bland. Hot Apple pie alamode had great flavor, but the apples were finely cut, more like a paste and soft. Not recommended if you like big peaces of apple in you pie. The server was ok, but sometimes didn't seem to be quiet with the program. Great atmosphere. My cocktail was not the most memorable I've had. Nonetheless, I would go back. Conveniently located directly caddy-corner to the Lyric Opera House. If you are attending an opera or play, it's a great place for a pre-theatre dinner.
My husband & I frequent the opera and we have been to Lloyd's several times over the years when we attend the opera and in the past few years, we've seen a slight decline in service. But this most recent one was by far the worst. We were seated on high tables when there were several standard tables open. These were given to older couples which I don't quite understand. Our server was not very good and frankly, I think he was overwhelmed by the opera crowd that was there dining on Saturday (03-03). I had ordered a Cesar salad as an appetizer & sadly, it never came. I don't know if he forgot to put the order in or the kitchen mistakenly overlooked it. In any case, our server who passed by several times (9 by my count) by our table never checked up on us to see how we were doing. Our food came & I had ordered the beef stroganoff & quite frankly, the description said that the short rib was braised in a Merlot wine but I didn't taste the wine in the short rib. It was an okay plate of food. We were done & by this time we had about 30 minutes left before we had to leave the opera (our reservation was at 5:45 PM) & our server told us he'd bring us our check & that's when I told him to make sure our bill didn't include the salad because I never got it and I'm not sure if he was surprised (quite frankly, I think he totally forgot that I had ordered a salad) but his response was "I'll make sure they don't charge you for the salad." I wanted to tell him that I wasn't planning on paying for something I didn't eat but I did not.
Overall, both my husband and I felt very disappointed by our experience. We've always enjoyed coming to Lloyd's because we can have a reservation that was an hour before the opera and the staff was able to get us served and fed in a good amount of time. One reason why we frequent this restaurant is it's proximity to Lyric which makes it very convenient so you would think that they would make sure that they have ample staff during the busy opera nights.
Good food, good value, friendly service, pleasant ambience
Always a wonderful meal with great service and attendance. It is also a very good value for moneyh considering it is a "downtown" Chicago restaurant. Their attendance to ongoing opera diners is appreciated and the place is really jumping on opera nights which gives it a very good vibe since it's like dining with friends who are all going to the same "party" at the same time.
The staff from the front desk on is remarkable, attending to every need and doing their best to fill orders in a timely fashion with all the peculiarities that individuals request.
One of my favorite places to eat.
The best value in downtown Chicago! Good food, large menu with lots of options, prompt service and reasonable prices. Perfect for lunch or dinner and the atmosphere is wonderful. Great bar, too!
We found Lloyd's to be warm, friendly and reasonably priced for "downtown" Chicago. It was close to the Civic Opera House, so it was a great choice for dinner before the opera. Wait staff was attentive and made menu suggestions. They were timely with taking our order and presenting it at the table. Our server checked in with us occasionally, and was not bothersome. I'd go back to Lloyd's for any theater event in the downtown Chicago area. KUDOS to our server Don - great job!
We always go to Lloyd's before attending the Opera. It is a perfect location.
Our experience at Lloyd's was perfect!! The food was excellent and wait staff were friendly and helpful.
Staff is sensitive to time constraints to get to the opera
Very good meal. Solid food with average service. Food business lunch in the loop
The service is always great at Lloyd's. My wife's salmon was cooked perfectly.
My fish and chips was tasty.
We have been several times before the Opera. Always fabulous service and delicious food. We will keep coming back!
I have become a regular diner at Lloyd's. It's an excellent "package" for my purposes, and is very handy for anyone who is seeing a performance at the Lyric Opera House, which is directly across the street. Lloyd's menu provides lots of variety, the food is very tasty, especially in light of the very reasonable prices. We have always found the service to be good: friendly (but not overbearing), attentive, helpful. I recommend it highly to anyone who will be in this area for whatever purposes.
I have Celiac disease & must stay clear of Gluten and Dairy. Lloyd’s always takes great care of me. Thanks so much!
Comfy, if busy restaurant. Great value for location and quality, although service was a little slow when I first sat down. Very good overall!
Dependable, good food, reasonably-priced, but unmemorable. Unremarkable atmosphere. Mainly a corporate space. Very convenient for pre-opera and they know to get you out for that. Bad coffee.
This is our go to spot pre opera. The menu is varied enough for any mood and the fish and steaks are delicious! They understand time constraints and make sure we are out in plenty of time. The food has never disappointed and the service is always top notch.
A friend from out of town was in for the wee and three of us decided on dinner at Lloyd's. It is convenient to both Union Station and Ogilvie Transportation Center; also near the loop. The atmosphere is Upscale Urban and the booths are quiet enough for conversation. The wine list was extensive. Th hummus was good, but the Calamari was outstanding, light and crunchy. The Sesame Seared Yellowfin Tuna was excellent, as was the Dijon Lake Superior Whitefish and the Fish and Chips. The Martinis good but quite strong. All in all, I'd say we will be back to Lloyd's for more great seafood!
Great service, wine, fries, slaw all good. Fish of “fish and chips” dry. Over cooked. Tasteless. Unattractive. No time to send back or complain due to train schedule. Would not order again.
The food was really good, and good portions. I had the blackened chicken sandwich, crab and corn chowder and my co-worker ordered the salmon and tomato soup. Wait staff was attentive without pestering. Big plus! My only complaint would be that it was a little too dark. It would be nice for a romantic evening but for two old friends catching up and laughing about the good ol days....could've used a tad bit more light.
Lloyd's a great, reliable destination for a good lunch in the Loop.
The food and service at Lloyd's were very good, as usual. It's a good spot for a business meeting, as diners are easily able to hear each other talk.
Very good value and convenient
Despite the pleasant ambiance and good service, the food was very uneven. The "corn and crab" chowder was a white sauce with corn, but no discernable crab. My fish was very good, but the carrots and rice were cold. "Fried rice" was just white rice stained brown with a little soy sauce, but only 3 bean sprouts, and none of the other things that usually go into fried rice.
Perfect for pre-opera meal. Close to opera house, parking readily available, and food was good with a varied menu so everyone got something they liked.
We dined at Lloyd’s before going to the Opera. It was a great location and the food was terrific. Our server was so pleasant and helpful. We will definitely return.
Lloyd’s is always great..
Have been there twice and both experiences were great. Food and service were excellent!
Horrible service - forget part of an order, rushed diners and clearly tried for flip tables over quickly.
