Chef Sam and his team conjure magical tastes every time! Lots of umami even for people who don't eat meat (I do). Last week I had short ribs and the meat melted in my mouth - SO delicious. The brief cocktail menu is always interesting and changes frequently. I like to ask Shane the bar manager to mix something to my taste and he never disappoints. The atmosphere is intimate and the wait staff is friendly but not overbearing. I wish I could eat (and drink) there every night. Highly recommended!
We love Lloyd Martin and come here often. We've brought many friends. Everyone agrees it is amazing and special every time. Such craftsmanship of flavor. Thank you again!!
Food was good, especially the scallops and risotto. However, they included an 18% tip even for 2 people and the price to food quality / proportion is exceptionally high.
30 dollars for foie gras appetizer seemed excessive and my clothes smelled after as the kitchen is poorly ventilated.
OK service, good food, but far overpriced. I think on the menu, it was $18 for one scallop, and $16 for one squash blossom. Service was ok, once you got the bartender's attention (we sat at the bar). Automatic 20% gratuity was not earned, however. We paid $98 for two plates of pasta, two glasses of wine and one beer. I overheard the bartender saying that "chef has ruined me for eating out" because the food was so good, he felt nothing in Seattle compared. It was good, however, not THAT good. My advice: Lower your prices a bit and be more humble and attentive if you want to charge an automatic 20%. That is usually reserved for excellent, above and beyond service. Not waving to try and get the bartender's attention type of service.
Dinner was outstanding as always! After my husband got stuck at work the bartender was kind enough to make space for a few friends to join me that happened to having drinks at the bar. His drinks were delicious and he kept us laughing. I had to leave early and the owner boxed up my food straight off the stove. It was delicious as ever. We are so lucky to have this gem in our neighborhood!
We have lived on Queen Anne for decades and have wanted to try this restaurant. We made reservations to take our son there for his birthday. The location on Queen Anne is excellent. We were surprised by the level of noise in the restaurant. Apparently, no one seems to realize that the atmosphere and ambiance would be vastly improved by installing ceiling baffles to improve the acoustics. We could not hear eachother talk which was very dissapointing. The food, while tasty and presented well, left us slightly hungry. We thought there should have been about 1/4 more food on the plates for the price. The dessert was a chocolate, huckleberry concoction but was fairly bland. It was okay but not a place I would eat at again unless changes were made.
Thanks again for a wonderful evening. LloydMartin always comes through. Their food is delicious and always creative. The Wednesday wine deal is a welcome addition. We will be back!
Enjoyed another really great dinner here. Sam and his team create beautiful and delicious food! Worth a trip if you don't live in the neighborhood.
The food was very tasty and creative if not slightly pricey. The portions were about right. The interior of the bar was attractive.
This restaurant comes highly recommended by a foodie I have the utmost respect for so I was excited to try it out for the first time. On the night we went, they had a foie gras dish on the menu, which we were told was the source of the quite overwhelming smoky environment that hit us when we walked in. It was a warm summer evening, so the doors were open and the restaurant was as airy as it could be. I'm all for an open kitchen, but that was a little unpleasant. Anyway, we stayed and ordered. I had the chanterelles and scallops; my husband had the beets and New York strip. The food was nice, but not amazing. The chanterelles starter was a little too rich, and could have used some grilled bread to soak up the egg and sauce. The scallops really could have had a little more substance on the plate, or at least I could have been recommended a side. My husband enjoyed the beets and steak, and the portions and flavors seemed a little better balanced than my choices. I never like feeling too full, but the portions for me didn't quite hit the mark - even after half a rice crispie treat. Overall it was way over-priced in my opinion, and really nothing to write home about. I also felt a little rushed to order and eat up which bothers me when I'm spending over $100 a head. Maybe we just didn't see the best in Lloyd Martin on that occasion, but I won't hurry back.
Had dinner at LM on Friday. Were able to get last minute reservations. The food was wonderful. We were pleased with drinks menu. I had rack of lamb. Nice art in the restaurant. Service is good and it is quiet but not library quiet. The only reason i don't give the ambiance 5 stars is that my hair and clothes always smell like cooked meet after a visit.
My friend brought in a stellar bottle of Kosta Browne pinot noir 2009. Corkage fee of 25.00. Ok. Our server absolutely butchered the cork on trying to open the bottle. The cork broke in half, the broke into several pieces as she tried to extract it. Ultimately she was able to get it out and we did enjoy the wine. I'm sorry , but for that I would have liked to have seen some waiving of the corkage fee.
Besides that , the food was terrific, rabbit legs, beautifully concentrated sauce full of depth and great flavor. Did go well with the Pinot.
I really do like this place a lot.
Always fun to try new items in our neighborhood restaurant. Amazing to have the place a block away.
Another great experience at Lloyd Martin! Special thanks to Shane for the personalized service and wonderful cocktails. Sam and his team put together a wonderful menu and we really enjoyed the crab risotto and albacore entrees. Looking forward to our next visit!
Food and service was great. Very nice that when we left we were thanked by chef, bartender and waitress. Love to eat in a small local restaurants that you feel your business is appreciated. Makes you want to return.
The food was excellent and imaginative. It was really really excellent food. I had a $14 plate of Himatchi that was huge and delicious. The only reason I lowered their overall score was because their menu is a mess. It comes on a 5x7" card and isn't organized. My wife and I had a very difficult time figuring out which plates were large and which were small. Also the price didn't help either as I said earlier the Himatchi was $14 and was substantial, then they had a truffle entree also $14 but it was as big as an oversized communion wafer. Also seems like the staff could have been educated and been a bit more helpful here as well. Its a super simple suggestion but just put a heading of Large Plates and Small Plates that'd help a lot!
Wow! Excellent, tasty food that is definitely at the top of our restaurant list. Revolving menu featuring the freshest and local ingredients. Husband had the best lamb chops he's ever tasted. Fish was so delicious it rates above another seafood restaurant known for it's seafood. Server was friendly and knowledgeable, that I'd go back just for him.
These people know food! This was the first time my wife and I have eaten at Lloyd Martin and the food was fabulous, well everything but the dessert. We ordered off the 4 course menu and the first 3 courses were great. The chef a Lloyd Martin knows fresh ingredients and how to use them. My wife started with the a pate and I started with a crab cake in what was easily the best pea soup that I've ever had. It wasn't heavy like a split pea it was fresh like a kiss of springtime and the fact that the sun had just mad an appearance made the soup seem like it came out with the sun. The crab cake was all freshness and deliciousness not polluted by heavy binders that have no place in a well made dish. Our 2nd course was a gnocchi and a ravioli that were again, ahhmazing! The peas were delicious the crab was perfectly done the sauces were present but not overpowering. The 3rd courses were a firm white fish in a delicious mole' sauce and duck, which my wife has a weakness for. It was at this time I checked my watch and we chose to blow off the symphony engagement for the evening for the dessert. They need someone in their kitchen who has dessert for a passion because as amazing as the rest of the dinner was the dessert was meh, average at best, and made us wish we has gotten it to go and taken in the concert instead. A flat finish to an otherwise outstanding dinner. Next time we'll choose from the other options on the menu but we'll skip dessert.
Fantastic pasta, creative ingredient combos that worked well, out of the way wines that paired well with the food.
Date night for my husband and I, we were heading to the opera afterwards. They were sensitive to our time constraints and the food was, as always, outstanding.
Radically overpriced with embarrassingly small portions fit for an anorexic. $250 for a below-average dinner for two just about says it all. We left feeling totally ripped off (and still hungry) after a 4 course meal. $15 for a chorizo app with 3 minuscule slices. $25 for fettuccini that could fit in 2 shot glasses. $35 for 2 crab cakes? And $14 for a small teacup of chocolate. Oh and still got charged for bread (!) and of course a 20% service charge so forget about tipping based on service quality. Definitely won't be back, and I suspect this place won't be around much longer as it's probably the worst value we've experienced in Seattle.
P.S. - the waitress said the portions were reduced for the 4-course pre-fixe "for our benefit so we don't eat too much". Why? Let us decide how much to eat. If there is food left on the plate, it's because it's not worth eating.
Excellent as always. They always knock it out of the park with drinks and food.
One of the best restaurants in Seattle for an elegant and relaxed dinner in a very congenial setting. It's about the enjoyment of food and the people you are with.
One of my favorite restaurants. Plating is beautiful and food tastes amazing. Best gnocci I've ever had!
We had a party of five, so eating a three-course family style meal was required. Many of the offerings were fabulous, especially the starters and the fresh pasta dish. It was a little odd that the third course was comprised of two pork dishes. The experience would have been better if the server had introduced the menu before getting started. That said, the chef was genuinely friendly, making us feel at home in his restaurant. He was thankful for our participation in Dine Out. The meal was a splurge for us--all in support of a great cause.
Everything I had hoped for and more. We will be back.
Everything was awesome with the exception of the octopus which was rubbery and inedible. Their response was odd given the amazing level of the rest of the cuisine. They told us octopus is like that. I've had amazingly tender octopus at several Seattle restaurants so that indicated a surprising lack of interest in improving their problem. We will definitely be back because everything else was so wonderful.
This is the worst restaurant we've ever been to in Seattle! The waiter was surly and we were shocked that the corkage fee was $25 and there is a service fee of 20% for the entire meal so the actual corkage fee was $30. AND even more unbelieveable is the fact that they wouldn't let us open both of the bottles of wine that we had brought insisting that their rule was "only one bottle of outside wine per table"!! LloydMartin doesn't even have a robust or interesting wine list--though what they do have is super marked up at 2 to 3 times cost---so it wasn't as if we had a good option other than the fine wine we brought. Why would any restaurant insist on only one"outside" bottle /table especially with such an outrageously high corkage fee? That would have been all profit to them. So not only were they extremely rude but it seems that they are not very smart business people either. The food was good but extremely expensive for what was served. We spent about $400 for a quite mediocre meal and a terrible experience overall. Save yourself the time and money and skip LloydMartin.
This place is amazing!! Absolutely delicious food and great atmosphere and service
My favorite restaurant in Seattle. Always a different amazing menu and craft cocktails from Shane.
This restaurant is a little Seattle treasure. The dark interior is cozy and inviting. The aroma wafting from the open kitchen as we walked in the front door let us know at once we were going to want to sit down and stay a while. There were four in our group and we sat at the corner "elbow" of the bar and it was perfect. We were able to carry on a conversation and I actually think it was more interesting than sitting at a table - a little less structured and traditional. The bartender was very friendly in a casual way. We found a wonderful bottle of Spanish red on the wine list, that we thoroughly enjoyed. We ordered a bunch of plates and shared them between us and I thought they were all interesting and delicious ... the hand-pulled mozzerella ... the ridiculously thick and juicy pork chop ... some kind of risotto ... tuna with miso noodles ... I'd order them all again. My mouth is watering just thinking about how good these were. I love finding a place where the owner comes up and thanks you for coming in and says he hopes to see you again soon. That is LloydMartin.
Food tasted fantastic, but for $250 for dinner for two, would like to leave feeling hunger was satisfied. Needed a sandwich when I got home.
Oh my, what a great find! We are living in Seattle for 2.5 months and near Queen Anne Ave N. Decided to try this place our first week here for a nice meal. Discovered it was April 1 when traditionally the chef prepares only a vegetarian menu. Was a bit wary since not a vegetarian (but love vegetables) but decided to make a reservation anyway. REALLy GLAD we did. My wife and I had one of the best meals we have ever had (and we travel a lot in EU, Japan, and US and my wife really knows food)! The menu changes every few days apparently and you get about 5 offerings to choose from for each appetizers, main, and desert. The chef is very creative, the waitress/manager was very friendly and knowledgeable about wine and food, and we had a great experience. I had the mushroom ravioli, my wife had the gnochi. Superb. We also had 3 appetizers that we delicious and the interesting cheese course for desert. For a wonderful find like this I am always torn between writing a great review and just keeping the great restaurants to ourselves so it's easier for us to get reservations in the future. But couldn't resist praising this one publicly.
Everything about Lloyd Martin was incredible! Food, staff & space all top notch. Well worth a quality night out.
Great restaurant and experience. Ridiculously expensive corkage fee ($40).
The service, food, food presentation, as well as the diversity and unique option of the pre-fix menu made the dining experience fluid and exciting. I enjoyed the presentation of the food and the flavors that accompanied did not disappointment or lag behind. It was a fantastic meal for a superb dining experience.
Everyday dinner- local place. Great little gem- but it’s very expensive! Have to be in right mood and know it’s a $100 dinner for 2. We did bring our own wine. It’s good, but feel like could have more options and lower prices. But good for a drink and snack. :)
Always a great meal at LoydMartin. Inspiring dishes, amazing preparation, exceptional staff. And highly personalized - which is one of the most important things about a restaurant - willingness to make an individual experience.
I personally love the location in Queen Anne and prefer a small/intimate restaurant. It is one of my favorite places to dine when I am in the city and we know a lot of places.
My only advice would be the seating to somehow figure out how to make it more comfortable and intimate. Hard to do in this establishment given size and layout but for those wishing to stay for more than an hour, it could help. But not a deterrent - everyone should go to this gem.
We did the chef tasting menu, and it was the heartiest tasting menu I've ever had. Great variety and nice sized proportions. You can definitely tell the chef has a 'truffle guy', every plate had some. Loved it, recommend it for anyone, 10/10 would do it again!
