Our waiter was fantastic. Food was good. Not great, but good. We were there for a pre-theater dinner. The food came out in a timely manner. Everything was the right temperature. Drinks were good. Our waitor was the best waitor we've had in a long time.
Always excellent. Love the variety makes a perfect pre theatre brunch.
Girlfriend weekend to see Cats at The Fox Theatre. Livingston’s is our favorite!...and Hassan is the BEST waiter!!!!!!
Everything was good not great. Shrimp on grit cake should be taken off menu.
Hostess’ hair showing dark roots and some blonde hair long dirty stringy oily definitely took my appetite and the ambiance of what
I was expecting away at what I thought Livingston would have as a hostess.
Bad first impression. Had to wait a while to be greeted.
I had left a message about traffic and our being late but obviously she hadn’t check messages . “ we only hold reservations for 15 mins”
Basically it was just an ok experience before walking over to see
CATS. It had 20 mins if no sound so guess it just wasn’t our night !
I had reservations for two at 5:30 p.m. but arrived 25 minutes early with three people. I was accommodated without hesitation. The service was great and our server actually noticed that one of the dishes we ordered had not been brought out yet. She was quick to retrieve it from the kitchen.
As always, delicious food and excellent service. We were fortunate to have our favorite server, Eduardo!
Dinner before the concert at the Fox. Great meal, good wine, fantastic service. The place was packed, noise level was high. All in all, a great time at the Livingston.
It wasn't the most pleasant. Noise level was extremely loud. There was a mix up with our bill but it was resolved. Our server was not the most attentive. Maybe it was due to so many people. Just wasn't the top draw we were use to.
Went for lunch with some girlfriends....very quiet on a weekday. Food was yummy! Service was attentive.
Ambiance was "Meh' Though it did have it's historical charm.
Eight clients for lunch took over 40 minutes to get entrees Very limited menu and pasta with brown butter sauce was not good. They need to try a lot harder in this beautiful well located spot
We've eaten here many times over the years and the draw was always the location (across from the Fox) and the interior (lovely old hotel lobby). The food and service were never horrible, but never particularly noteworthy. This visit was different. We were a party of 6 for a 9 p.m. reservation after a show. There were perhaps 15 other people in the restaurant. It was not noisy (as it can sometimes be, but that's never really a problem for me) and our servers were incredible attentive, gave us time to enjoy our cocktails before pushing us to place our orders, were very knowledgeable, and were attentive without being annoying. And they were charming! We lingered over dinner and greatly enjoyed the food, which was far better than our previous experiences. The trout and spareribs were the standouts. One of the hosts quickly found a to-go cup for a coffee one of us had not finished. We'll be back even when we do not have tickets at the Fox. Well done!
After not coming into that area for over 10 years I was very surprised, a had Great dinner/evening.
Just spoke with the restaurant manager to vent my dissatisfaction with the value and quality of a dinner for four.
Going to give 5 stars for her response to our conversation.
As I expressed to the manager, the state of the meals set upon our table should never have left the kitchen. Where are the standards?
Tonight was not my experience of the past.
Hope things get turned around.
The food was ok but the service was terrible. We sat for 15 mins before someone came by for drink orders. No one checked in the entire meal and we had to flag someone down to get the check.
Have been many times before shows at Fox but this will be our last. Made reservations 2 months ago but tried to sit us on lounge chairs that were too short for the table. They had obviously overbooked or given away our table. The hostess was rude and very curt. No apology basically blamed us because we didn’t request a specific table. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a tablet that you can actually eat at when you have a reservation. Finally offered us the community table when I asked to speak to a manger. Horrible customer service. Will not be back.
We had a wonderful pre-play dinner. Livingston was overbooked and we were placed upstairs--we were the only ones. We still had great service and dinner was good. Some a few things were taken off the bill -- a very nice and unexpected gesture. Thank you.
Our server was horrible and we asked for the manager twice.
Our group of 3 looked forward to dining at Livingston prior to a show at The Fox. We had a drink at the bar which was nice prior to being seated at our 5:30 reservation. It was a very disappointing experience. The hotel is very pretty and atmosphere is nice, but unfortunately, they were short servers and we felt it. Our female server came to table, we asked for water and decided on an appetizer to share. She briefly came by and asked if we knew what we wanted for dinner, and we ordered our entrees and a bottle of champagne. Our appetizer came out fast and it was good and then our entrees came out not long after. We all liked our trout dishes. Not amazing but well prepared and tasty. Our food was delivered by someone else and more than halfway through eating, we began to wonder if our champagne would ever come. Finally, I stopped another staff person and told her that we have never seen our server again and to pass on to not bring our bottle because we were almost done eating at this point. Another 10 minutes later, our server appeared and rudely asked if we cancelled our bottle. I said of course, we are now finished with our meal. She left and more than 20 minutes later, I got up and asked the hostess if somehow she could get us our check. Someone came with it after 10 more minutes and after another 15, we were paid and left. My assessment is that they were short staffed but I imagine that the poor service might be that way prior to all shows at The Fox. I will not be dining there again prior to a show.
Service was horrible. Place was not busy and they took 30 minutes to bring out our breakfast. Initial order was wrong and they brought meals out at different times instead of together. Eggs were over cooked. I rarely complain but the service here warranted a complaint. It is a shame because it resides in a luxury hotel
The food and service while at the restaurant was amazing! However, they get a fair rating from me because the service leading up to our reservation was horrible. The person in charge of reservations, Shevonne (forgive me if the spelling is incorrect) was less than professional. She attempted to call me the day of and cancel my reservation, though I made the reservation five days in advance. She stated she "doesn't have time to look at each reservation everyday," which is why she did not recognize the problem with my reservation in advance.
The food was absolutely horrible. Not as advertised. The "Pig Wing" appetizer was actually good. The Fried Chicken Entree was Mealy and soft, as if the meat had been soaked in something, and it tasted horrible. The rice that accompanied it was old, and mushy. The Mussles were covered with cheese for some reason, which had the taste of old curdled milk when mixed with the broth that the mussles were served with.
Drinks were fine, and the service was very good.
But overall, I could not eat my entree.
The food was different and very tasty. Enjoyed the experience.
Very pleasant date night. After dinner and drinks, we headed across the street to the Fox for a great evening.
The food is superb. The flavor was truly exceptional. Since we were not sitting at a window, the atmosphere felt a bit somber. Might be a combination of the monochromatic palette and lighting. Maybe lights at each individual table would benefit this area. There was a wedding, I think, next to the restaurant; a better sound barrier would help with that as well.
Myself and my wife had excellent service. The food was excellent. I will be back again.
The service was okay, and the food was decent. The brussel sprouts were burnt to a crisp. Had to ask for a substitute. Also the drink order and food orders were all placed at the same time, not allowing time to enjoy my cocktail.
Food is delicious! The cornbread is fantastic and the portions are a nice size! Fast and friendly service as well!
Best for brunch. Otherwise pass.
The restaurant was not crowded at all but they would not seat us on the patio. It was a beautiful day and I really don’t know why. All our food was awesome and the chef brought us out at the end two huge slices of that days quiche special on the house. We will definitely be back.
Since my family has been dining here on holidays, the quality of the food has decreased considerably. We started celebrating special family holidays here 2 years ago on Thanksgiving. We thought the food was excellent. This Mother’s Day was quite mediocre. There’s lot of food but the quality is simply fair. I don’t understand what happens to fried chicken to make it tough! The food is usually so tasty. This time, nothing was outstanding. It all tasted like I cooked it, and that’s nothing to leave home for!
This was our second mothers day brunch at Livingston, and everything was great.
Great Mother’s Dat Buffet
I was so disappointed. I made the reservation at least a month in advance clicking on Mother's Day Brunch. Turns out opentable offered breakfast times that did not coincide with the special brunch. We arrived at check-in and the hostess told me our table (which was for 10 people) was being occupied by another party and she didn't know when they would leave. Her alternative was to offer two 5 tops next to each other. My immediate family is 5 people so I would not be able to sit next to my own mother on mother's day. We decided to wait it out with twin 3 year olds and a 6 month old. Aging parents who traveled over an hour and my sister's family who traveled from 45 minutes away. 45 minutes later we get seated. It took another 15 minutes for our server to acknowledge us and take our drink orders. Then, another 15 minutes to get them. My wife had to actually go to the bussing area to fill up her own coffee because the server never came back to do refills. (Remember, this was a mother's day brunch). The drinks were not included in the price per person which is not stated anywhere. We asked to have the bill split three ways and the server said they did not split checks which also not stated on any of the brunch advertisements. I will say the saving grace between the incompetent hostess and the server who could careless about our experience was the food. It was wonderful. The staff overseeing the food was exceptional. Kudos to them because this place would have otherwise ruined Mother's Day.
We will never come back again. What a disappointment.
The food was unremarkable except for the Salmon Chip's appetizer. Service was great, atmosphere was great, the food did not match the level of service or atmosphere. Hire a new Executive Chef or have this one learn about seasoning.
Food was mediocre. It did not taste freshly prepared.
Parking was confusing. No valet since the Fox Theatre had an event that evening. Was told by parking attendant the fee would be one amount, $8, but when we exited it was $15.
Unpleasant surprise! Not excited to return for dinner.
Food was excellent. I had the steak and my wife had the veal chop both were cooked perfectly and very good. We shared the beet salad which was also excellent. All portions were very nicely sized and the presentations were very good. Eduardo was our waiter and he was superb. Very knowledgeable about the menu, gluten free options, the hotel, the area, etc., etc. The only issue was that there was a Kentucky Derby party going on in the bar and this made things extremely noisy for which Eduardo apologized for, although certainly not his fault. Once this cleared out things calmed down and the noise level was minimal. I had vodka rocks and they charged 0.75 for the rocks which my wife thought was ridiculous, probably should just add it to the price of the drink and not show it, the total for the drink would then have been 10.00 which is about normal, just a little psychological thing. All in all we enjoyed our meal there, would go back and would recommend it to others. Directly across the street from the Fox so very convenient for that. We were going to the symphony so the walk was about 13 blocks but an easy walk particularly in good weather. We rode Marta down and the North Ave. station is only maybe 2 blocks if that, and could have ridden Marta back to Arts Ctr station but decided to walk after such a filling meal. Ask for Eduardo he was great.
I expected much more from this restaurant. My husband ordered the "creole scallops and grits". The grits were watery and flavorless and only 4 scallops for an entree. Not sure where the creole went. I ordered the steak which although was cooked to order it was a very thin cut. For the price I would have expected more. We shared a apple sort of desert that I believe was heated in the microwave, rather soggy. Too bad I had been looking forward to eating in this iconic restaurant for a long time. Hopefully, they just had an off night.
My wife’s favorite date night place. Excellent food, service, and location
So disappointed. Have visited many times and had wonderful experiences. Sisters traveled from North for a visit and our experience this time was deplorable. Server Jessica brought sweet tea to table after unsweet was ordered. When told Jessica the tea was sweet she said no I brought unsweet. Diabetic sister had a few sips thinking taste was off. It was sweet . No apology just a drop of the unsweet tea. Never removed the sweet glasses of tea! Never asked if cocktails could be reordered. Drink refill , lemons requested and horseradish sauce never came or came at end of meal. The horseradish sauce was dropped at end of table with no comment. When the server approached and I asked if she was taking drink orders first ( after sitting with no attention) she rudely stated no taking whole order now. I’ll space it out! Food was not hot when served and a specific request for no cheese on steak was ignored then brushed off and served with the same taste left for sister who gags on cheese. I would like to praise Eduardo who greeted us in a lovely manner and even took a second to speak about the show playing at Fox. I never mind paying the price for a great meal but with server like Jessica I don’t know if I’ll return Jessica made you feel invisible , in addition she put a 20percent gratuity on the check. Normally even with mediocre service I tip at 25 percent. First terrible experience at Livingston’s one that really left a taste so bad not sure I’ll return!
Always enjoy a cocktail and dinner before theater! You are always our first choice! It was a lovely start to our evening.
