Little River Inn Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The food was delicious, perfectly prepared, and unique. The pureed spinach was incredible! We were greeted warmly and made to feel very welcome. The only very minor glitch was that our server was spread too thin between two different rooms. It wasn't her fault, but it limited her ability to check on tables frequently. But that was very minor in the big picture of a great meal.
Everything about our experience at the restaurant was wonderful. The staff was very attentive. We liked it so much that we went back again the next night. The clam chowder soup was fantastic - not the usual thick pasty stuff many restaurants serve. This one had the clams still in their shells and the broth was so flavorful.
This is a very nice Mendocino Restaurant with views of the ocean from the bar, you are able to witness beautiful sunsets!
The dining area is nice with big windows of greenery. The staff is friendly and helpful, very nice overall. We enjoyed the salads, fish and desert!
Is there any dish Chef Marc cannot do to delicious perfection at the Little River Inn Restaurant? We stayed at the Inn three days for our anniversary and enjoyed three dinners and two breakfasts, each one amazing. Dinner hour is particularly popular. Mendocino Coast ocean views are stunning from anywhere on Inn property. Some tables have an ocean view but most look into the garden. Only complaint would be a minor fly issue when windows are open on a warm, nice day, which is the weather we got for our getaway. The staff is unfailingly cheerful, efficient and kind. Cannot recommend them highly enough.
This restaurant has a lovely atmosphere with gardens, and overlooking the ocean. The food was superbly prepared, and plated. Our waitress was excellent; very friendly and professional. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Mendocino Coast.
This restaurant was a score! A plus. We accidentally went there, while actually looking for a different restaurant that was located down the road. So I assumed. This time what a GREAT assumption. They served us immediately, had reservations but still...ok been there before on the mystic Mendocino Coast line, but it's been years. WOW the food was amazing. The only disappointment were the oysters, but only cause they were so small, otherwise Fabulous. there were three of us, all ordered different selections and shared. Treat Yourself.....
This was a lively bar and restaurant with lots of good service and friendliness. Food was great, although they were out of the cheesecake dessert we wantedeven though it was a relatively early reservation (6:45). The noise level was high, almost too high. But we had a great time and had a wonderful table with views of the ocean.
What a magical evening! From being greeted by the host to signing the bill, every experience with staff was a pleasure. We felt so taken care of and special, and that was on a busy Saturday night. The wine and food were spectacular. The view from the bar is gorgeous, and the dining room has a lovely garden outlook.
My birthday celebration. I was looking forward to a great meal. I ordered the Parmesan crusted eggplant. Of the 3 slices of eggplant served, two were burnt on the outside and one was practically raw. The server was great and ended up giving me a different meal so my dining companion would not have to wait for me to be served to finish her meal. The substitute meal was very good, but not what I wanted, and I continued to have a burnt taste in my mouth even after eating the other dinner. I was given a free dessert, which was very nice, but I was disappointed with the meal overall, especially since it was my birthday celebration. However, gIven that the replacement meal was good, I would still recommend this restaurant.
Very good food in one of the world's most scenic settings on the Mendocino coast. The menu is designed for a well-heeled, older crowd rather than the adventurous foodie diner, featuring seafood, plenty of meat options, sufficient if not exciting vegetarian choices, nice desserts, very good wines. The dining room is painted in calm sea colors with abundant seating. The view is fantastic. I took the picture below in the parking lot in front of the restaurant.
All service in this corner of the world is a tad too languid for my taste (possibly owing to Mendocino County's ubiquitous #1 agricultural product), but we had our best service here. We saw a veteran maitre d' pleasantly handle an obnoxious patron.
The small bar is close to the dining room and was very noisy the night we were there, but the design seems to keep the noise from spilling over too much.
When we were first met by the Gentleman that sat us, we knew we were off to a great start - Thank You Sir. We sat by an opened window that provided us with a wonderful and a magical breeze and view of the ocean. It was a quiet corner, the drinks were tasty, the food was well-prepared and presented by Marc - the salmon and scallops were very succulent, and we will be back.
The meal was great from the start. The calamari was tender and perfectly seasoned with an delicious, delicate mustard based sauce. The entrees were prepared with incredible skill. The salmon was clearly caught within the last 12 to 16 hours, grilled to perfection and served with an excellent polenta. However, the spinach puree was an acquired taste. On the other hand, the scallops were tender, translucent, and also perfectly seasoned. The scallops were served with a roasted corn risotto and fresh peas in the pod that were served hot, yet still had a wonderful snap when eaten. All of this was followed with a marscarpone based cheese cake that you simply have to taste to believe. What made the evening completely over the top was the service. From the wine steward to the wait staff to the manager, we were treated with sincere respect and concern that we experience an incredible evening. I recommend Little River Inn for any occasion. You have to visit here if you are in Mendocino County - or any where within an eight hour drive. Trust me, it is worth it.
Food was excellent!! Best clam chowder I have EVER had and the Elk Ragout with home made pasta was superb. We did not have dessert as we were too full. The portion size is very generous. The dining room was almost full when we were there so it was somewhat noisy but that subsided as other guests finished their meal and departed. Overall a most excellent meal at a beautiful location on the ocean.
This restaurant is adorable and the food was amazing. However, the front door slams very loudly every time someone goes in and out of it and we happened to be sitting just beside the door. It was horrible. We were on a date and it must've slammed 50 times. I don't understand why they would not fix that with a simple bumper. Our food was very late (they forgot to put the order in) but it was very delicious.
Made to feel very welcome by all the staff. However the decor was tired, the food mediocre, and the ambience subdued. Ingredients were fresh, but lacked a certain finesse, the steak was very chewy and the peppercorns somewhat took away any chance of tasting the steak beneath. Both fish dishes were very fresh, but once again suffered a lack of appealing to the eye. The kids menu though limited, was fine, but once again expensive.
Considering the price of the meal, we would expect better surroundings and food. We left disappointed, but not hungry, and we must say again, the staff were very pleasant and efficient. We could not recommend this restaurant, and our sentiments were borne out as we left. A young couple were looking at the menu and asked us if they should sit down for a meal. Our immediate response was to suggest that they went elsewhere.
The service was fantastic! The host gave us an option between some tables. We appreciated that since most places don't. Our waitress was great, we never felt rushed. We split a steak and they cut it and put it on two plates. Excellent place with fantastic food!!
We were visiting Mendocino area for the weekend and a friend recommended the Little River Inn for brunch or dinner.
We had brunch there and had a lovely time.
Great food, great service, reasonable prices, and beautiful location.
My husband and I definitely plan to return there in the future.

My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and we could not have picked a better restaurant. The food was great but what made the evening so special was our server, Jenn. She made sure everything was perfect from the moment we were seated---thank you Jenn!!
We visit Mendocino often and had never eaten at the Little River Inn, so decided to try it. The Hostess was terrific and big on personality. Service was good, but food preparation was quite poor. I had the Salmon with polenta and spinach. Salmon was watery, polenta was not good and the spinach was pureed. My husband had the Sole, topped with Shrimp. Fish was also watery with tiny thawed out shrimp. This restaurant claims to have a world-renowed chef, but Saturday evening must have been his night off.
