Little River Inn Restaurant

After spending a week on the Oregon Coast and having wonderful dinners we were disappointed in our dinner at Little River Inn. The salmon was dry and overcooked. Although the scallops were good the risotto that they were served on was very gluey. Maybe we just selected the wrong dinners that night. A large party came in and our server was distracted so she did not even ask how our dinners were. Service was good until that point. John was very knowledgeable and helpful with our selection of wine.
Excellent food and service in a spectacular setting. Highly recommended.
Wonderful meal....especially the clam chowder....made with whole clams! Loved it!
Food was terrific and staff very attentive, professional but not aloof. Highly recommend.
Little River Restaurant is always good, but dinner menu could stand some upgrades, as menu hasn’t changed in ages. Breakfasts are terrific, my favorites are eggs Benedict & blueberry scones.
Vacation time here for a week! Dinner almost every night! Have eliminated some items from the menu, that was a surprise.. what they are serving ,is always good!
Delicious fish, lovely wine, and stellar service! We would absolutely go back again.
Great food, great service, and a great view of the ocean and shoreline. It was a great place to celebrate our anniversary!
This restaurant should have closed 10 years ago: food is mediocre and service is almost nonexistent. Mendocino does not offer too many dinner choices but this one should not be considered unless everything else is fully booked.
We had a wonderful meal here - nice prix fixe menu item and pork shank was perfect. The matrie d' was exceptional - such a personal character who found us the absolute best table in the house (we had a reservation, but we could have ended up anywhere) - and was so sincere about his care. Wonderful view, great service, fab food, and a price that was 60% of a meal we had just down the road the night before that was just good. Will go back for sure.
Great restaurant in the Mendocino area. The overall dining experience was very good. Great location, great experienced staff, good service, good food, and had a very romantic evening.
It was a very lovely dinner!
Great food and ambiance. Really enjoyed our dining experience!
Food was too ‘heavy’.
Waitress honest & helpful. Comfortable.
A true local treasure; whether for a more quiet romantic evening (a separate formal dining room with sunset views of the bay), dinner with friends in the family style room with garden views or a bite and a drink after golf. Service is attentive and kind. Food is delicious! But be warned... the portions are enormous! By our standards at least. In two days, we had the clam chowder, 2 different soups of the day, the beet and arugula salad, pork in the osso buco style and seared scallops. All were very good.
Outstanding service with great food in one heck of a location!! Perfect!
Horrible service. Our server was not familiar with the menu. I asked for suggestions and she acted annoyed. I would have tipped the hard work busboy instead of her. He was at the table more than she was, he filled our water and tea glass, and retrieved all our condiments after our meal was served.
Luckily the food made up for the bad service.
We enjoyed a marvelous dinner. The dining room is fantastic with large windows all around. You feel you are having an elegant meal in the garden! Started with a cocktail and sourdough bread and butter. We tried the clam chowder with steamers in the bowl, fish and chips and even their burger. All very delicious! We had dessert sharing a cobbler and a hot fudge sundae. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. Will definitely go again and again and again...
We had one meal at the Little River Inn. The dining room is in the back with the bar in front having the prime position with the view over the sea. We enjoyed the pork ragout and salmon. The meals were fully priced so value for money was average.
One of the best dinners we’ve had on the Mendocino Coast!
This was ok,. No what I was hoping for. Portion size to large needed more attention to details and presentation .
Two of us shared three dishes. The first and second came together, as requeted. One was the steamed clam chowder, with clams in the shell. One of the best either of us can remember...and we lived in New England for several years. We asked for an extra spoon and the kitchen split the chowder in separate bowls...no charge. Second course, same time, was fried calamari. It was dusted in rice flour and very crisp, not at all greasy. Served with an unusual sweet and hot mustard sauce and lemon to squeeze. Superb. The final course was scallops with orzo in a very deep herbed sauce, and grilled asparagus.
The dining room is surrounded by lush gardens, with one side facing the sea.
Our server was Jen, and she was great.
This trip was our annual jaunt to Mendecino and we always stay at the Little River Inn. The ocean view from our room was beautiful. The restaurant has courteous staff who are knowledgable about the food and beverages.
Ehhhh....
Had reservation, was seated right away but waited 15 minutes for water, 20 minutes for server attention and 45 minutes first plate. Not awful but couple that with a couple seated after us with no reservation had main dish served before we received appetizer with the same server did not feel so great. Food was good, clam chowder was unique but the main dish was basic. We were guests at the inn and while we would stay there again we would skip dining there.
Reservations regarded. Table was ready. Service was a little slow but it was busy. Food was delicious & warm.
Always have a delicious & romantic time there. Love the gardens surrounding the dining room. Our dinner the 1st night became a little too noisy with a large family with young children who stayed a little too long, but once they finally sent the kids out, the ambiance resumed to comfortable. Food is always outstanding!
A favorite place when visiting ! Loved the window seat~ such a quaint place!!
Special Occasion dinner booked in advance and confirmed with the restaurant a week ahead of time with the restaurant advised it was a Special Occasion dinner. Asked for a window seat with ocean view, got a window seat with garden view and never offered a table in the ocean view room. No recognition from the restaurant staff of it being a Special Occasion event. Fried calamari appetizer was OK, no different from what you get anywhere else. Bouillabaisse was very good-lots of seafood. Service was ok. Prices were Mendocino County high, which is expected. Just a middling experience unfortunately. With so many other options in Mendocino County, I will likely not return.
Very accommodating!! Had a meet with the chef and he was extremely helpful and informative regarding my celiac disease. Made my experience dining there a wonderful one.
Beautiful old world hotel / restaurant with great food
Fabulous views of the Pacific Ocean
My wife and I enjoyed our dinner very much. We were greeted by Jim, who could not have been nicer.
We were offered options for our table and we chose a table in very cozy room with views of the ocean.
Our server was very friendly and courteous. Although the special starter abalone and corn fritters, was not what I was hoping for, the batter overpowered the abalone flavor, the Bouillabaisse entre and the berry cobbler, made for it. I will definitely be returning, we really enjoyed our evening; next time I will have to order a different starter dish.
Excellent as usual. Scallops were cooked to perfection. Friendly service. Amazing view of the ocean, and a beautiful view of Nancy Collins’ watercolors. Little River Inn is our every six months treat!
Portions are Very large. Salads are huge and if fries come with your selection it is a bit much.
The 'bar menu' is fantastic. Many of the diners ordered from the bar menu. The staff both in the bar and the restaurant are outstanding. The two female bartenders know how to mix a drink. Best margarita I have ever had! Excellent fish tacos and fish and fries. Korean chicken sandwich was a bit too spicy but still tasty.
OK, nothing special. Fancy-sounding dishes made very ordinary, and very expensive. $5 for a cup of tea? And an added charge for sharing a dessert? Rather petty.
Great location facing the Pacific Ocean. However, the main dining room does not offer a view. There is a smaller dining room offering water views. Hence, when making reservations you can request.
Their menu is very diverse, offering seafood, chicken, and seafood.
Service was excellent and personable. A very enjoyably dining experience.
Delicious prix fixe meal, generous portions. Attentive service.
The mission of the Inn is very much felt in the atmosphere of the Dining Room. The team who served us were friendly, accommodating, but not intrusive. I had hoped to have scallops but they were not on the menu the night we were there. I had them on a previous visit and they were outstanding. Our fish entrees, halibut and petrale, were prepared to perfection and I didn't miss the scallops! Our selections were flavorful and hot when served. The accompanying dishes paired well with the meal. Overall, a very enjoyable meal.
Excellent service and the boulabaise fish stew was a delight
We always enjoy dining at the Little River Inn. Ambiance and food wonderful. Ole's Whale Watch Bar is great to have a cocktail or two and enjoy the stunning view. Love everything about the Little River Inn!
