The Little Hen is outstanding. The best food in the Triangle.
We will definitely miss them.

We invited another couple to join us here for a special Valentine's Dinner. The entire dining experience was fabulous. Cheese board (local cheeses) was excellent. Appetizers were wonderful. Their signature pork chops for two were perfect.

The only things not quiet to expectations was one of the desserts (Mango Cake) that was somewhat dry (but the Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta was great!), and the red wine we chose was disappointing (but that might just have been our palette).

We are so saddened to hear that The Little Hen is closing its doors for good after this Saturday evening (Feb. 18). Those who never experienced this superb restaurant missed a truly outstanding dining experience.

We hope they open in a new Little Hen location very soon.

We were looking forward to dining at Little Hen after reading reviews and menus. Once we got there we thought the menu selections weren't very good compared to what we had seen offered on menus in the past. It's a very short menu, I would have preferred a few more selections to choose from. The dishes we ordered were good, but not great. The beer was good. The dessert was disappointing considering they have a pastry chef. We won't try them again. For the money and all the hoopla, we expected a little better.

I took my wife for a date night.
Positives: service was excellent. Very nice, on the ball.

Negatives: Took a long time to cook (we were the only ones there {5:00} reservation). Food was bland, small in portion size, we each tried the others food and agreed, lack of flavor. There was no salt or pepper on the tables. For the cost of the meal (not cheap), portion size was really small. The dessert was not worth the $9 price tag.

The food is farm to table so menu changes regularly. It is always fabulous. One of my favorite restaurants.

Was excited for new cuisine. Menu was limited. Appetizers were less than impressive salami and cheese for 5 people. Not enough for 5 people, sliced a piece of bread and toasted it. Menu was pricey for the ambience. I expect a real napkin than a washcloth for an average of $30 for main menu. The ambiance is a farm to table so looks like antiquity farm equipment but for prices higher than normal at least add a votive to the table. I consider myself a foodie andceaten at all types of places around the world and would not recommend.

Little Hen has been on my list of places to try for awhile, so when I saw it on Triangle Restaurant Week, I booked a reservation. We arrived early and started with drinks at the bar while we waited for the rest of our group to arrive. My champagne cocktail was refreshing and my husband enjoyed his Scotch ale. Our table was comfortable and we didn't feel like we were on top of the tables around us. There were a few additions to the menu we saw online, and they were excellent. Of everything we tried, the shrimp and grits, and the deconstructed s'more were our favorites, but everything was delicious!

Food was good, however the service was lacking. Wouldn't drive from east wake count again. Too many other farm to table options in the area that overall are much better.

We decided to try Little Hen during restaurant week. We had heard so many good things we just had to see what the buzz was! Our meals were delicious! I had that fantastic pork chop and hubby had a pork shoulder/pasta dish. That pork chop was so big, I got 3 meals out of it. For apps we had the charred beets and the crostini with pimento cheese--both fantastic! For dessert, we had a deconstructed s'more and the ginger crusted cheesecake. The server, Brian, was very knowledgeable and attentive.
We will definitely be coming back!

All of the dishes were delicious, the fresh baked bread was perfect as well. The pacing of the meals for triangle restaurant week was good in that it allowed you to digest and process each course before moving to the next one.

When we walked in we were surprised by then open seating area. I was a little taken back at first, but after we were seated I couldn't hear the people in either side of us so the acoustics were great. Our waiter was very friendly and attentitive. The food was fantastic, the pork chop my wife ordered was unreal. Probably the best I have ever eaten. Highly recommended for a nice quiet dinner for 2. Will definitely be going back for dinner again soon.

My friend and I tried out Little Hen for my birthday dinner during Restaurant Week. It's not much to look at from the outside, but inside it's charming and has the "farm to table" feel that reflects their food. The service was good; our waitress was pleasant and knowledgeable. The food was fantastic - for Restaurant Week, they offered a $35 menu with appetizer, entrée, and dessert included. My appetizer was a pimento cheese "bruschetta" that far exceeded my expectations. Homemade pimento cheese on crostini topped with a slice of fresh tomato and thinly shaved jalepeno slice... don't let the jalepeno scare you off; there was just the barest touch of heat from it. The dish was DIVINE. My entrée was the milk-braised pork. It was good - the creamy sauce with celery and mushrooms and the homemade rigatoni all melded well. For dessert, I had the smores cheesecake. It was rich and chocolaty with a toasted marshmallow topping and crushed graham cracker crust - probably more chocolaty than your average smore but SO GOOD. I would definitely go back!

Clearly the chef starts with wonderful ingredients and is quite talented at preparation. Our meal was great, with the exception of the bread pudding, which was underwhelming (dry, lacking flavor and overpriced)! Service was mediocre, and sub par for the price level of the menu. Lastly, the mens restroom was filthy dirty....not what you want to see in an establishment where cleanliness is of great importance. This place is a gem waiting to be polished.

This is the second time I have been to The Little Hen. This time a friend and I were celebrating our December birthdays. We both liked that the restaurant allowed us to share appetizers and entrees because we are not big eaters. The service was very good and we loved the wine recommendation.

Try this restaurant for farm-to-table experience. The menu was comprised of 5 to 6 appetizers and 6 to 7 entrees. Our party of 4 with various food intolerances felt those were too few choices. The menu stated that any change to a menu item could incur additional charges so I didn't even feel comfortable ordering a salad with no onions. Our server was excellent and knowledgeable however we didn't see a lot of her. Thus, it took a long time to get drinks, appetizers, or entrées. The noise level made it difficult for even 4 people to have a clear conversation with each other. Some of the entrees were very good although some were small portions. There is an adequate wine list with a limited number of wines by the glass.

The food was great, my wife got the scallops and I had the Pork chop that was delicious, but they could do better with the ambience and the service. I mentioned in my reservation that we will be celebrating our anniversary but nothing came out of this, whereas in other restaurants will either congratulate you or give you an appetizer or a special desert (at Sullivan's we received a greeting card from the crew and chocolates). I am not saying that I want to get something for free, I am just comparing with how does good looks like for me.

Would go back for the food though but will not be in my top list.

Expensive Small pours of mediocre wines , roasted vegetable melange appetizer while tasty had no eye appeal and the hanger steak was way over seasoned with salt. The choice of offerings were slim uninspired comfort food . Overall this was a tiresome Farm to Table experience that runs generally on pretty high margins .

My 1st time at The Red Hen, we drove in from North Raleigh and let me assure you....THE PORK CHOP IS WORTH THE DRIVE! I was left speechless...over a a Pork Chop. If you go, and you should, do not leave the restaurant without someone in your party ordering the pork chop. It is worth every penny! Cheers!

Overall, my first impression of Little Hen was a good one, and I will return. The food was very good, especially the goat cheese appetizer as well as the chicken parmesan. The only negatives are that the seating is very uncomfortable, and they really need to replace the floor in the bathroom.

Don't expect a long list of items on the menu, but the menu is very well thought out with something to please everyone. It is not often that I can find something for a low-acid diet without making a special request or modification. I had more than one option, but I was assured that the chef would customize for dietary restrictions if needed. Great company was my favorite part of the evening, but Little Hen was the cherry on top.
