Little Hallingbury Mill Hotel and Bistro is situated on the Essex/Hertfordshire border close to Stansted Airport, Bishop’s Stortford and Sawbridgeworth. We are a small, independent family run hotel who take great pride in delivering friendly service, food and hospitality from the heart. Set alongside a pretty tributary of the River Stort, Little Hallingbury Mill is a grade II historic listed water mill.

We use local suppliers and seasonal ingredients to create dishes you will enjoy. We have a separate menu for those following a Gluten Free Diet which includes our House Speciality GF Beer Battered Cod & Triple Cooked Chips - a real treat for those for who love fish and chips!

Our guests come back time and time again to experience the food, ambience and intimate atmosphere of the bistro with the warm, hospitable welcome and service.

Larger groups very welcome and we can provide set menus.

Booked late in the day for a last minute table. All good. Owner was very friendly and helpful and had a good chat about the area as we were looking at a property in the area. I ordered chickpea and butternut squash curry with wild rice and it was very tasty. My husband ordered roast turkey and it was fresh and nicely presented. This was exceptional as we were the last diners of the lunch shift and ordering a roast late in the day is not always good! Although not moving to the area now, would definately pop in again, especially in the summer, as lovely setting on the river.

The building is stunning and setting lovely. The staff were very polite and kept in touch with us throughout the afternoon to make sure we and everything was OK. The table was easy to book and we had a lovely time. Local to us and important we support our local companies so give them a try, I believe dog friendly too.

An absolute gem tucked away by the river in the Essex countryside! Food,service, ambience & attention to detail were both faultless and I cannot recommend highly enough that you try Little Hallingbury Mill for yourself. My friend has a gluten free requirement and she said the scones were the best she has ever had! We will certainly be going back again soon...

We spent a lovely evening at Little Hallinbury Mill. The owners were friendly and welcoming. The service was excellent as was the food. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will be returning soon.

We were a group of eight sailing friends meeting up for an annual get-together and enjoyed an excellent meal at the Mill. The owner encouraged us to order earlier rather than later because there was a large group upstairs so we took his advice and had no problem at all. We didn't feel rushed, in fact we were the last to leave. When earlier diners finished we had the downstairs restaurant to ourselves - so it was like a private dinner party! We were well looked after and the owner took time to have a chat with us during the meal so we did feel very welcome. We will definitely return.

Went for a family Sunday lunch. Service was good and we were tipped off about an impending large table arriving which helped our order go through for which we were grateful. The food was good, although I have had larger helpings, puddings wet every good. Be careful sitting near the door on a windy day!

The food was fantastic. Myself my partner two friends and my parents had a great evening. We are getting married here next year and wanted to try the food. We were not disappointed and can't wait until next October. It was a warm friendly atmosphere .
