Great place to enjoy food and live music in a historic bar.
Miss Basil was great along with her band. My wife did have to send back her fish because it was burned on the bottom. Our drinks were ok, but not great. The music was wonderful!
If you've never been, then you are missing out on a beautiful experience.
My son recommended the Gem, I loved the music and food. Lilli Lewis was awesome.
We had an amazing time!
Food was great and our server “Cali” was the best!
Great food, location, ambiance, and live music.
Go for the music not the dining. This is not entirely an unexpected thing since everyone arrived at the same time, but having two courses of the meal arrive at the same time and before an ordered cocktails a problem. So is a 20 minute wait for a glass of wine that then arrived only minutes before the end of the show.
The gumbo I had was pretty good but nothing special.
Food much improved waitress excellent. Atmosphere nice.........................
Great live music from Kermit Ruffins and the BBQ swingers which was my whole reason for being there that night. The gumbo was excellent and the blackened chicken Alfredo was average.
We loved Little Gem Saloon. My sister and I went to the show Friday that featured Quiana Lunell and we enjoyed her show so much that we went back Saturday night to see Kermit Ruffins. The service, staff, food, and the ambiance were top notch. When we returned Saturday, the servers and even the owner recognized us from Friday night. Everyone was so friendly. They make you feel right at home, like family. We’ll be back next year.
Just like a dinner club with music might be. Attentive staff, attentive service. Kermit Ruffins show and all others are tops. A perfect venue to make it an early evening. Decent crowd. A place you will go back to again.
Excellent atmospheere and good service, but a little to cold , many people have to weAR ADDITIONL CLOTH
I go there for the music and have often found the food and service to be mediocre. This night was different - food was better - service was outstanding!
Five stars for Evan Christopher and Little Gem Saloon
I’ve been going to Little Gem Saloon for the past 3 years to just go to see Kermit Ruffins perform. I’ve taken my mom for her birthday and also gone for other special occasions.
This past weekend we were there for my 34th b-day celebration. I had a party of 9 come join me that flew in from all over Texas to celebrate in Nola. I was disappointed to hear that a simple birthday dessert was requested more than several times for our table and it was never brought to my seat. The server had taken our food/drink orders very attentively towards the beginning of dinner but then lost attention towards the end of dinner service. We had spoken up about simplifying our checks into 3 to make it easier for her. This wasn’t a difference on her/restaurant’s end. We were the last ones to leave because our split checks we were all rung up into different random tickets and nothing made sense. I’m a loyal Little Gem Saloon dining/Kermit Ruffins fan and to celebrate my b-day there and not get appreciated by one simple dessert request from my friends and family will really make me rethink to even ever go back again. This was suppose to be a form of celebration and special occasion.
Reasonably priced dinner, excellent service, great music venue. Beware when splitting a bill among credit cards (not separate checks): the recommended tip amounts will be based on the total bill, not the per-card total.
Went here to see Kermit Ruffins on the recommendation of friends. Beautiful bar with good cocktails, but the food and the music were a disappointment.
The seafood in the bouillabaisse wasn’t fresh, it tasted frozen. The oysters and crab cakes were decent, but were garnished with avocado that was rock hard.
The music could have been good, but some members of the band were so stoned that we were seriously worried they were going to fall off the stage and hurt themselves. It affected both their playing and their interaction with the crowd. The sound levels were off: you could barely hear the piano or vocals.
Fantastic place: great ambiance. Owner, Nick, is wonderfully accommodating & resourceful. Always high quality music.
Welcoming attitude by hostess and wonderful service by waitress enhanced a lively dinner performance by Kermit Ruffin. Crab cakes were tasty and the cheese board was ample if not distinguished.Family friendly atmosphere.
We stumbled on this joint by accident. Looking for food and music near our hotel. They treated us great. Food was good and service very good. The music however, was spectacular! I don't know if the music is this good every night, but we were theated to a traditional jazz quartet. The room is intimate and you can have dinner or not. Dinner gets you a good table.
Great atmosphere, good customer service and amazing food!!!
Atmosphere and the historic building was really nice. We knew we were going to hear the band so we knew it was going to be loud. No problem as expected. The food could have been a lot better, disappointing. I would return if there was a group I wanted to hear, but would reconsider my food order.
Quite a bad night for us- we had reservations and arrived on time; however, there were no tables available. The hostess brought tables from the back and put them right by the door- literally in the door. We refused to take the table and elected to wait until one came available. The table wasn't offered to anyone else and was taken back. We were then seated as some unhappy guests were leaving. We could not hear them but thought they said something about 45 minutes. We ordered drinks and appetizers and got ready to enjoy our night as there was a great vibe in the place. The apps came before our drinks. The fried oysters were delicious but there were only four of them. The crab dip was fair and the toast not toasted. We asked for toasted bread which we never received. Finally our drinks came. In a few minutes the waitress came back and told us that the restaurant was closing at 730 pm so we needed to order. It was 721pm. I asked why they took a reservation if they were closing so early. She apologized and asked if we wanted to put in a order before the cooks closed the kitchen. We had each drank about half of our cocktails- which were the worst that we had while we were in NOLA. If you know NOLA, you know that walking around looking for a place is hard as everyone has a reservation. We could not even book another one on opentable because we had to wait for the 1.5 hours to pass to get another one. We paid and left. I would have given us our drinks at a minimum. Poor service, fair food of the little we got. Go somewhere else.
We arrived on time for our reservation. We ordered a glass of wine and were very disappointed in the flavor of the wine. Our waitress was extremely nice and we really felt sorry for her as she was obviously stressed and stretched very thin. Our water glasses were never refilled. The menu was very promising and we were very excited to get our dinner. We were however beyond disappointed with our food. My daughter ordered an 8 ounce hamburger but there is no way that burger was 8 ounces. It was dwarfed by the bun. There were also no condiments. She had a hamburger, lettuce, tomato and onion with no mustard, mayonnaise or ketchup. I ordered the Creole Shrimp with Cheese Grits. The shrimp were decent but the grits were totally tasteless. The Leek and Onion Biscuit was served cold and hard with no butter. My other daughter ordered the Parmesan Crusted Catfish which was decent, but also did not have a lot of flavor. The macaroni and cheese was the only thing worth ordering. We will not be going back.
Food and environment are great main reason for bad review was inability of kitchen to get food out in timely manner - waited an hour on a busy night for appetizers and a few items never showed up- observed same problem at other tables. We are from out of town so maybe this is not the norm - the food once it arrived was great and music was amazing hope they can get things sorted on the delivery.
You must try the shrimp and grits!
The room set up is perfect for viewing the bands, especially if dining. Volume is perfect - loud enough to be enveloped in the music but not so loud that you can't hear your dinner companions and server. Arrive half an hour before your reservation for best seating.
Love this place....Been here twice now to see Kermit Ruffins. Our server Ron was excellent! Great food as well ☺️
The music and ambiance were great and the food was decent but the waitperson seemed incompetent. They mixed up our drink order, forgot our appetizers and spilled beer onto my plate with food.
Wonderful venue-- great music in a lovely room, good food, fun times.
The food is great but it’s even better when Kermit Ruffins is playing with his band!
The gentleman at the door was personable and greeted us promptly. Our server was equally charming. The layout was a disappointment. I was expecting it to be a bit more “upscale.” Prices were upscale. I wouldn’t go there for an intimate dinner. It lacks intimacy. The food was subpar. Catfish is mastered in this city. If your going to offer fried seafood, you must be as good as the homegrown masters. With all of that being said, the staff and entertainment made our evening enjoyable.
Nice restaurant with good service. Not much for celiac. The shrimp and grits were spicy.
great music--good food--good service-----------------------------------------------------
I am a New Orleans native and had stayed away from the Little Gem Saloon, thinking it would be too touristy. Yes, it is perfect for the tourists, but the locals are the ones who can truly appreciate it. I ordered the seafood stew which was quite good and the chocolate profiteroles which you can't find everywhere. My husband and I ordered our music tickets for Deacon John and reserved a table which was good planning. Deacon John was fabulous. He performed for two hours without a break -- singing, directing the band, playing the banjo and guitar.
The great food and ambience at The Little Gem are only outdone by the excellant bands they book. In the past few years, we been dined quite a bit at The Little Gem and have been to many shows there. We've loved it every time.
Love the ambiance and friendly, cool atmosphere...
Food always wonderful, as well as service.
Thanks Little Gem!!
This was my first time in this establishment. I did not know what to expect, but it was nice. My friend Sharon Martin performed. Sharon’s performance was amazing and the band was top notched. I loved the music. Hats off to all the musicians. I had a great time.
I ate the blacken chicken pasta but only a small bit. I started feeling ill. Despite that, the food was ok. A bit over seasoned with the chicken. And the Alfredo was super thick.
They say you should always try something new at least three times. So I will not till this place out just yet.
This place is really. Hidden gem in the city. Great entertainment, good food, and a lovely staff. Parking on the street on in nearby lots makes it even better. My new favorite.
great little place to listen to live jazz and get a bite to eat. saw sharon martin there saturday night and she was tremendous.
