We are not a ‘fancy pants’ establishment. Not in the least. We offer good quality, home-cooked, locally sourced (where possible) food. 90% of our menu is made on the premises. Certainly not ‘Pub Grub’ but not ‘Gastro Pub’ either. It’s good value for money. However, our standards are high, very high. Not only in the quality of the food that comes into and leaves the kitchen but also in the presentation, the delivery to the table and overall customer service. We’re definitely not ‘Silver Service’ either but all of our staff are attentive, smartly dressed and will always go that extra mile wherever they can. These are just some of the reasons we were awarded the Taste of the West GOLD award in 2019.
We are a dog friendly establishment, very dog friendly. However, please tell us at the time of booking so that we can place you in our Bar area , as opposed to our Restaurant.

Here at Mad Dogs & Englishmen we have become renowned for our themed Afternoon Tea’s and wonderful cocktails. Enjoy the eclectic surroundings of this unique venue. We offer an immersive experience, a feast for the eyes and the taste buds! The Parlour Tea Room at Mad Dogs and Englishmen provides a vintage setting to enjoy Afternoon tea. Our countryside sister the Legh Arms is our latest addition to the family and is situated in the pretty hamlet of Mere Brow. This is a first rate restaurant in all respects: superb food: interesting, high quality ingredients all beautifully cooked and presented and most if all absolutely delicious. The value is inly scoring 4* as drinks can jack up the bill. The environment and atmosphere is like no other i know in London. The high ornate ceilings and decorated walls are amazing (see for yourself) pictures all shape sizes in a remarkable tessellation. Yet there is a comfortable vibe despite the very grand environment and conversation is easy with little background interference and somehow a sense of privacy, which is remarkable. Service is charming, prompt and very helpful.

I've been to All of the Albertts restaurants and I can say with certainty that Alberts Standish is the nicest, nice loccation, large restaurant, a large bar area inside and great outside space for eating and a large outside seating area if your just having a drink, the only thing which was missing were parosols, but apart from that it was lovely 🌞

We had a wonderful dinner at The Jolly Fisherman, our table in the Snug was perfect, service was great as staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was fabulous- best meal we had - prepared with care and skill and super tasty. Thank you for such a lovely evening.

The Cat Inn is a 16th century free house set in the picturesque village of West Hoathly, a hilltop village set in the heart of the Sussex countryside. It is in within easy distance from the towns of East Grinstead and Haywards Heath and only 25 minutes from Gatwick Airport.

The Pub with its oak beams and two inglenook fireplaces proffers a warm and cosy atmosphere in the winter, whilst our terrace is perfect to enjoy a drink and food in the summer months. Being a free house we pride ourselves in the quality of our real ale, and concentrate on local breweries, such as Harvey's of Lewes and other micro breweries. Our food is cooked to order, using fresh, seasonal and where possible locally sourced ingredients. Our menus change on a regular basis and we also offer a small selection of seasonal specials on a daily basis.

We welcome children over the age of 7. Dogs are welcome in the "pub" area of the Cat, they are not permitted in the dining room
