Second time we had dinner here and it was really good. The chicken scarpariello and the pasta bolognese were delicious. My only "complaint" is, the wine list is lacking. Not great choices and prices a bit high for what they're serving.
Really good food and service. The waitress was very attentive. Would eat there again.
Great food, service & very accommodating in terms of seating preference.
Small town restaurant with AMAZING Italian/European food, they offer a great Sunday Brunch... We just came back from Europe and we were a little bit nostalgic... the food completely delivered vs expectations. We loved the place and definitely we will be back
Amazing from start to finish!! Best restaurant in Westchester 😊🍷🍽
Beautiful ambiance, delicious food, overall great dining experience!
Not sure how this place got to #7 on Westchester magazine...the bar did mot have the brand of gin that we drink., the menu was limited my veal samtibucca was dry and over cooked, my husband's sauce was ok...his birthday was ruined..worse meal i had in a very long time!!!!
The food/service was amazing!
One of our new favorite restaurants
Never disappointed. Our go to place for a relaxing evening with great food.
Good and service were outstanding! It was a little brighter than it has been in past so ambience not as great.
Were able to move us inside when rain was forecasted. Very attentive waitstaff, food excellent and always great options on menu.
loved the food BUT female waitress was NOT on top of her game
We really enjoyed our dinner at L'inizio. The staff was lovely and welcoming and our table was fine though I was surprised that two other diners were seated next to us in a largely empty room. The table was next to the air conditioner, which was a bit much on a cool evening. The potato chips were fantastic as were the clams appetizer. We had to ask for some bread since there was no way we were going to let the sauce on the clams go to waste. I had a couple of issues with the black pepper carbonara. For one, I felt the pasta was overcooked. And I also thought that it was a bit overcomplicated for what should be a very simple dish. My husband ate every last bit of his octopus and my son loved his pasta as well. I was extremely surprised that a couple of the pastas that included seafood also included Parmesan in their ingredient lists, which prevented me from ordering them. My entree was the chicken scarpariello, which was very tasty, but by then I was too full for more than a few bites. My husband loved his chicken parmigiana, which he got with a side of pasta marinara. That pasta was also a bit overcooked to my taste and was far more complicated than a marinara ought to be. My son really enjoyed his pork tenderloin, which was a special. We both loved the bombaloni but we were disappointed that they were cake donuts rather than raised donuts. However, it didn't stop us from enjoying every last bite. We will certainly return, but I will definitely specify al dente for the pasta next time.
Food is very creative, beautifully prepared and outstandibg
Great food, great service. Atmosphere is small café, quiet and romantic.
Food was excellent. Wish they would have given bread before hand while waiting for our dishes versus with the meal. (Skimpy on bread serving) also, charged for refills on sodas when very small glasses.
Food was excellent. Medium rare burger came out rare.
Some of the best food we’ve eaten in Westchester. This little restaurant puts out some big flavor. We had baked clams with bacon, delicious, pasta with wild
mushrooms, kale and truffle oil, so good, and chicken scarp, also great. Panna cotta dessert, amazing. Nice cocktails, wine and service. We sat inside which was very pleasant, they’ve fixed up their outdoor area which is essentially just a blacktop area and made it charming with a pretty tent and lighting. One suggestion would be to spruce up the entry way where the hostess stand is. Put some flowers and get rid of the ugly
plastic coat hangers and clutter. We will be back.
Good food but: My wife and I shared a salad as our first course. We asked the gentleman who brought it to our table for 2 plates so we could share. He said “use those” pointing at our small bread plates. I asked for larger plates and he delivered 2 more small bread plates. Later in the meal I asked for more water and he said “ask your waiter.” I never had an experience like this before in a highly regarded restaurant. I didn’t complain or skimp on the tip, but I won’t go back.
We’ve been fans of L’inizio for several years but picked it for a special birthday dinner this week. We were so glad we did. This lovely restaurant weathered the pandemic with true grit and seems to have doubled down on getting all the flavors even more spectacular. Service has always been a standout and this visit was no exception. The chef has a really keen sense of what tastes best together, dishes are subtlety complex even smell fragrant and tempting. There are excellent fresh and marinated vegetables incorporated into most dishes in a way that enhances the taste and adds a snap or flavor buzz to what might have been ordinary. I can’t exactly place the region of Italy represented but it’s more Northern in general... never was a “red sauce” menu.... and it pays to let this talented chef show what he can do with more creative delicate and garden-fresh selections throughout. Because it was a special occasion we splurged on two delicious glasses of bubbly Cava and had a decadent honey covered ricotta which we spread on toasted bread. We had wonderful Burrata and a great salad, followed by flat iron steak over roasted pearl onions and an unusual but fascinating chicken parmigiana covered with arugula- more like a Milanese but so aromatic and satisfying. Dessert was also a great treat. Don’t miss the bombolini (sp?) with chocolate sauce. This was more than we can normally ingest- but birthdays come and go and we were happy to be at a truly fine restaurant and start to feel more normal again. In a nutshell- this is excellent cuisine and the quality just keeps getting finer and more delicious with each visit. And no, we didn’t have pasta- although we almost always do- and we know that they are mostly if not all made in-house and are delicious. This was a memorable evening which we agreed long afterwards was a wonderful choice for our special occasion.
Everything was super delicious. Staff is nice. We sat outside and there was a small issue with service, but they pulled it back together and the rest of our night was lovely. This restaurant is really good. Note that I a rarely give 5 stars.
Loved everything we had. Great people. Great place.
Never disappointed. You can always be assured that you're going to have a good time whether you dine alone or with friends.
Consistently excellent food, great wines, wonderful service and moderately priced!
Always delicious and a great experience!
Food was a ware. No crab in the pasta special, actually thought it was Parmesan cheese it was so small. The pancetta was only far and nothing else. I made a pile on one side of the plate and waiter didn’t say or ask anything. Took 15 minutes for the check.
Don’t waste your time or money
This is a favorite restaurant in southern Westchester. The food is always creative and excellent. Strongly recommended.
Service wasn’t great. My food was delicious but my husbands chicken parm was just so so.
We had an excellent time! This was my son‘s 20th birthday, and we decided to celebrate with you and your family!. The food was superb and the service was excellent. We were well taken care of by our server. This is a must stop when in the Ardsley/Dobbs ferry area. Or, anywhere! It’s worth the trip from wherever you are coming from! Can’t wait to go back again! Thank you to all!
The food was great , service mediocre.
One of our waiters was charming and thoughtful; the other looked like he thought we were too much of a hassle. Food was 75% great and 25% average -- the average being the carbonara, which didn't work for us. We should have gotten the pappardelle in meat sauce, which we were mistakenly given instead of what we ordered (but was then taken away).
Fish was cold, pasta carbonara had no flavor despite having many ingredients in it. Waiter was very nice and accommodated us by taking everything back and comping our entrees.
Food and service is great... but dining outside in a parking lot leaves a bit to be desired. The indoor setting is always nice so hopefully they
will improve the outside location with a few more plants to block the parking lot/ garage and some lights and effective heaters.
Great restaurant, always enjoy it!
Great food and atmosphere!
Probably one of the most spectacular meals I haven’t eaten in a very long time. Ample portions, easy to share, incredible flavor, fresh, inventive, and every other word you can think of. Live in the city that will drive up to Ardsley regularly!
Both the service and meal at L'inizio were excellent. The black pepper rigatoni carbonara had a subtle kick to it and was outstanding.
Delicious and good service. Nice outdoor patio
We ate outside the other night and the parking lot back area is without a view- we had a semi view of a Toyota Camry—- but the food is outstanding and the service was terrific! Would definitely go back!!
