L'inizio Ratings and Reviews
Drove to Ardsley for Mother's Day.
There is a separate bar and two dining areas. The staff is helpful and attentive. There was a very light and creative strawberry rhubarb mimosa. Wonderful appetizers and a gorgeous omelette. But the desserts are divine. This is a charming intimate restaurant that has a casual vibe with a sophisticated attitude toward good food.
This is not our first time here. The food is really great, but this time, they ruined a very special occasion for us.
I phone ahead of time, told them it's my wife's birthday, that it's a surprise, and that I want a cake/candle. They assured me that they got it and that she'll get a great surprise. Then to MY surprise, the second we arrived and announced our names, the lady checking us in looked at my wife and told her: Oh, it's your birthday, right? Which really ruined the evening for me.
Then when we were done with our meal, they asked whether we wanted dessert, brought the dessert menu, and came back asking for our dessert order. At which point I told the waiter that this is wrong, the lady at check in shouldn't have spoiled the surprise, and they should just bring the cake instead of asking for our dessert order. All he did in response was to offer us a free dessert, which is $10 off our $154 bill!!!
We really didn't want any freebies, just wanted a sincere apology and for them to promise that they'll be more careful with other customers in the future and not ruin their special occasions. The guy never even said: Sorry!
Had a reservation on. Saturday evening for 7:15pm, and were not seated until 8pm after we turned down a table right near the door (which should be reserved for those that walk-in). Since the bar opened, we are not as enthusiastic about this restaurant. Food is still excellent but they seem overwhelmed. Our waiter never informed us of the specials. Not sure when or if I will return, I feel this restaurant has run its course for me.
Shared two appetizers - the ricotta and the ham platter. both delicious. Two of us had a pasta from the menu - entree size was just right. Another diner had the market special fish - char - which she stated was delicious. Desserts were extremely delicious - shared the Italian donuts. Could eat them every day!
Another lovely evening at L'inizio on the occasion of our wedding anniversary. Inventive drinks from the bar and great specials were again available. The Mon-Wed three course prix fix is a great deal. Service was attentive as always and choice of background music very cool. Love this place!
As always chef Scott puts his creativity to work and serves vibrant new entrees. I am a regular but each time I discover a new restaurant. It's exciting and refreshing. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Thumbs up for the tempting and delicious desserts.
Farm to table local Italian with seasonal ingredients cooked brilliantly. The burrata is off the charts and the sausage cavatelli wins every time I come here. Leave room for Heather's amazing desserts. Did I mention the home made bread sticks.... I ordered two pounds of them to take home!!
I love the cuisine, the bar, the wine, the creativity of the chef owner's cuisine.
HOWEVER, please do not leave music choices to the front. Frankie Valli selections? 50's greatest hits? In a refined restaurant that charges $30+ a plate? Soft jazz please (and not the Sinatra station).
This was our first time visit to this wonderful restaurant and it certainly will not be the last. We had heard good reviews from friends that had eaten there and were not the least bit disappointed. The food was absolutely outstanding and the desserts were a wonderful finishing touch. We'll Be Back !!!!!
I was overall unimpressed, though there were a few high notes. The signature cocktails are strong; we enjoyed a Salty Dog and a Paper Plane. We enjoyed them with the crusty bread and parmesan flatbread. The pasta, a mushroom gnudi, was delicious, and I wish I'd ordered it as my main dish rather than as an appetizer to share.
The pork chop special was an enormous thick slab of meat, unappetizingly huge, and uninspired in seasoning. The accompanying vegetables, according to my dining partner, were "okay." I ordered the duck, which arrived nearly raw, much too rare for my liking. The skin on the breast was gelatinous, not crispy. I considered sending it back but our waiter did not make frequent appearances, and it got to be too late to return it to the kitchen without holding up the rest of my dining companions. I made do with the duck meatballs that came with it. Dessert, a chocolate bread pudding, was rich and crusty—a great end to a not-so-great meal.
Service was just okay; the waiter was not particularly attentive, but he didn't abandon us completely until it was time to pay the bill.
I don't recall what the others at my table ate, but they seemed overall more pleased with their choices that I and my date were.
This was my first visit to L'Inizio and it was a winner! I took two friends with me to celebrate one of their birthdays, and we all agreed that the dining experience was excellent. While the decor was less impressive than the food, we were so impressed by the excellent food and service, that we barely noticed the decor. Will be back!
L'Inzio is my favorite rivertowns Italian.
Great neighborhood spot with food, ambiance and service that makes it fit for special occasions too. Simply superb food- love the octopus, brussel sprout salad and all pastas (and I do not usually eat pasta). Heather (owner, hostess and pastry chef could not be more accommodating and friendly. In the last year they expanded their bar and have excellent wines, beers and cocktails with a fun crowd.
