About

This restaurant is permanently closed.

Lineage, in Brookline, serves rustic, contemporary American cuisine with an emphasis on New England-style seafood dishes, served in its charming and relaxing restaurant. The spicy lobster tacos with avocado mousse and mango salsa and the creamy mushroom and parsnip soup with brioche crouton make sensational starters. Some of Lineage's specialty seafood entrée dishes include the Nantucket Bay scallops with potato gnocchi and grilled fennel, the pan roasted Ipswich cod with homemade bacon and green onion and the pan seared striped bass with tasso ham and roasted cauliflower. If you are more in the mood for turf rather than surf dishes, the grilled flat iron steak in red wine sauce with brown butter potatoes and the oak roasted Bell & Evans chicken breast with polenta and smoked mushrooms are perfectly prepared.

For a sweet end to your meal, try Lineage's Sparrow Arc Farm carrot cake with rum ice cream.

I am crying at Lineage closes for good this w/end. I am going to miss Amy more than words can say and the talented chef and staff. I love this Brookline gem and tears are flowing.

My wife and I have been constant guests of Lineage since it opened. We live in Brookline within walking distance of Lineage and so have made it our go-to local restaurant. Now that the owners have announced they are closing, it is bittersweet to reflect on how consistent and wonderful this restaurant has been. In ten years I can honestly report that I have never had an entrée that was not perfectly prepared, and I mean perfectly, not just outstandingly. The Sewalls' forte is seafood but their deft touch applies as well to their chicken, flat iron steak, and even their signature hamburger. Man o Man, am I going to miss this place, where we were always received, especially by Manager Amy Audette but by the entire staff, as if we were family.
At every feature a restaurant can exhibit, Lineage has excelled; and now (in July) it is not only the fact its days are numbered that should drive you to this diamond among restaurant gems, it is also adhering to its traditional July practice of making the entirety of its eclectic wine list half price. Run, don't walk, to Lineage.

Very sad that this is the last month for Lineage. Get there if you can before they close. Creative menu, very good wines, nice atmosphere.

This restaurant is closing at the end of this month, and it's just as well. The food, the staff, even the menu all seem tired. Fried chicken was fair; shrimp was overcooked. The black rice was good; the salad was uninspired, though at least the greens were fresh. There were lies--er, shall we say, inaccuracies--on the wine list, so check your bottle against what you actually ordered. The sommelier was completely unapologetic and uncaring, claiming that they printed what the distributor told them, even though nothing on the label backs up the claim. The service was inattentive; they already had their pink slips and they knew it. Skip Lineage and go someplace where someone cares at least a little about something they do.

They have a way with fish. It is always excellent, well presented, and generous portions, cooked accurately to your wishes. Service is commensurate. Fine dining in Brookline. LIneage, you will be missed! If I had one comment it is that a TV is jarring in the dining room (which I realize is also a bar, but still...)

Lineage is quite an exceptional place to dine. Their lobster tacos is out of this world and a must try item on the menu. The service is very attentive but not hovering. The food is honest and genuine and the flavors are always bursting. It is one of my family's favorite restaurant in the Boston area.

I appreciated that I could reserve a fairly early Sunday dinner time - 4:30. The sunday supper option provided delicious field greens and a generous portion of homemade meatloaf and vegetables. Our friend requested less salt for her chicken meal and it came just as she requested, my husband reported that his salmon was delicious. We felt so lucky to try Lineage while we still had the chance to!

Really good food, and surprisingly quiet. Pemaquid oysters, spicy lobster tacos with mango salsa, flat iron steak with purple potatoes cippolini onions and swiss chard, all done very well. Only complaint would be that I ordered the steak med-rare, and received it a bit past med. Really not a big deal. Very good bread too.

Excellent crab cake, but $24 steep for one medium size. Corn salad accompaniment also excellent, but why only a half cup serving? Friend's gnocchi very good. Beer flight ok, but one too lemony taste of the 4. Butterscotch pudding terrific as usual, but 1/3 the size it used to be. Still, will be so sorry to see this close in July, but just too pricey for the neighborhood, wh needs daily meals under $30-40 per person, not the $50-60 a 2-course w 1 drink costs. Many of us would have loved to partake more often than we did.

We celebrated the "special occasion" of a Fond Farewell to our favorite restaurant for the past ten years. We will miss Lineage profoundly as it was our "go to" restaurant to celebrate all our birthdays and anniversaries. We were always treated as special guests, by name, even though we didn't get there but four or five times a year. The bottom line is that LINEAGE IS A CLASS ACT with Jeremy, Amy & Brad....others whose names I don't know....always made our visit something special. Best to you all! We will miss you. Myron & Mae

We have been disappointed in the restaurants in Brookline. Average food, very noisy venues that attract a largely young and noisy crowd. Lineage has been the best we have found, but we'll keep looking.

A fine restaurant with a welcoming sense of hospitality. This great place known for its oysters at the bar, is a wonderful recent find. I regret having not gone to Lineage sooner. A group of us enjoyed window seating, great conversation and an unhurried meal. The wait staff was excellent. Nonintrusive and attentive service. Will be a frequent customer from now on.

This restaurant is overpriced and overrated. They serve only a very few dishes which you'd think they must be spectacular. Their "hand-made" pasta was nothing special, my daughter found it to be very salty and not that tasty. Their "prime" burger is just a fancy hamburger in a bun with french fries, except at twice the price. The ambient is nice, but I'm not sure it's worth paying $$.

I was very disappointed with my experience at Lineage this time. I have been there before and loved the food, the atmosphere, the service. I ordered the halibut; my friend ordered the shrimp/pasta. We both agreed that the food was altogether too salty and almost inedible. I probably will not return any time soon.

First time visit will not be the last. Sadly, I came to know about Lineage too late in the game. They are about to close in July 2016. But this is a great neighborhood restaurant. The food was superb and the setting is intimate and comfortable. The soup was perfect; the house made pasta was great.

Actual menu is about 1/3 of what is shown when clicking on the "full menu" link through Open Table. I get that a restaurant's menu will change with the seasons especially one that is supposed to be farm-to-table, but the items they had are currently listed on the Open Table menu. They just had far fewer appetizers and entrees than what's shown on the Open Table menu. So overall it was disappointing.

We went for a Mothers' Day brunch. Unfortunately, they don't really serve brunch. The menu was mostly uninspired lunch items (burger and fries) with a couple of breakfast items. The waiter was very nice and substituted English muffins for white bread (toast). They have no wheat bread. The food was very good, and the wait staff friendly and professional. It just seems that brunch isn't their thing. *Update: it seems that Lineage is now only serving dinner. That may be for the best.
