Lindey's Ratings and Reviews
The food was amazing. Our waiter was attentive. Literally my only complaint is that the rolls they brought out before the meal came with butter that was cold so it didn't spread. Both my husband and I thought that was disappointing bc everything else was excellent and well thought out.
We eat at Lindey’s 4-6x per year. This seemed like an off night for them. Valet was a little rude. We got seated in front room (prefer the back when not on the patio). Wife explained to server (who was nice and tried hard despite being absent a couple times when needed) that she was vegan and didn’t like pasta. Chef made her a pasta dish with some vegetables. We sent that back and chef came back with a vegetable dish cooked with butter (not vegan). So I ate my meal (halibut special - over cooked) while she hung out. Just a bad showing for a good restaurant.
We like to celebrate special occasions at Lindey's. I had the Riesling which is very good, but the amount was a little short this time. My husband's beer was okay, but he felt the beer list was lacking. We usually sit up the short stairs away from the bar, but did not this time. It was a little noisy in the bar area, but not bad. My Shrimp and Lobster Risotto was delicious and contained a very good amount of shrimp and lobster. My husband's pork chop was overdone and somewhat dry, even though he asked for it medium rare. In past years, we have had excellent waiters who asked us if we had a special occasion or answered our questions honestly about the menu choices. We were not disappointed, but did not feel our experience was as good in past years.
It was an excellent experience -- wonderful food and the server, Nathan, really made it a special experience. I chose this restaurant based on the valet service because I have trouble walking and street parking in Columbus can be a challenge. The only bummer of the visit was the somewhat high step into the main door. . . and we had to do two sets of steps to get to our table. They were only two or three steps each but it's still a challenge for people with mobility issues. But I'm certain had I asked for a table in the front dining area to avoid the steps, they would have accommodated us right away.
I am very sorry to say that the food served for this meal for two on a week night in early November 2017 was an embarrassment to me. The fact that my dining companion was an old friend visiting town and taking me out to celebrate my birthday is irrelevant. I chose Lindey's based not only on their reputation in Columbus generally, but because I'd enjoyed their bar previously and their busy happy hour a couple of times. I especially liked coming in late once before for desert and coffee. So I looked forward to having a full meal with Lindey's and chose it over four other top Columbus restaurants. I talked the place up to my out-of-town friend and, although a poor meal between old friends is nothing, I thought it a shame that it would happen at Lindey's.
Here is what was wrong:
The "18 ounce USDA prime bone-in ribeye" was neither tender nor flavorful. The meat was full of sinew and difficult to cut. The order was for medium rare, yet the steak was rarer than this. We were talking and catching up and did not realize the steak problem immediately. The food on the plate was well presented and looked tasty. After noting the fundamental problems with the meat, it was plain that sending it back as too rare would be wasted effort.
The macaroni and cheese side dish was something I would toss and cook over before serving to a child. The sauce was too thin and without much cheese quality. The pasta was cooked well. Onion straws can be a fine, simple accompaniment to steak. These tasted of overused oil and lacked crispness. We decided not to stay for desert and coffee.
I did tell our waiter about our dissatisfaction but he immediately left to bring the manager to our table. He listened to me say pretty much what I have just written although, frankly, as though he was simply waiting for the complaint to end. He expressed a pro forma regret and left.
Our bill was adjusted $10 for "birthday," an almost comical coda to an unfortunate restaurant experience.
My wife and I made a reservation at Lindey's for our anniversary. We were staying in German Village, so they were close by. The outside of the building looks quaint and historic. We were welcomed and seated right away. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu choices and able to make recommendations. We both tried the soups, which were excellent. I ordered the Steak Frites on the recommendation of our server; my wife ordered the Tournedos of Beef. Both meals were delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed a quiet meal together.
The food and service was very good. Very disappointed that my request for a dessert for daughters bday was completely ignored. I requested that when I made the reservation. I called and I received a call from them to confirm. Three times and still no mention that evening of the bday.
Lindey's is the best, hands down! I've tried nearly everything on the menu, and there isn't a bad dish. The staff goes out of their way to accommodate requests and provide an enjoyable experience, and the ambiance fits perfectly with the surrounding neighborhood. If you're looking for a fine dining experience that isn't too stuffy, Lindey's is the place to go. Pro tip - try dipping some of the fresh sourdough in some lobster bisque. Your tastebuds will thank you.
This has long been our favorite restaurant in Columbus. Now, I would not return. Since I do not live in Columbus I do not know what has happened, but it seems they lost their chef and decided to wing it without a qualified chef. The menu looks great. They simply do not deliver. The meals were not well prepared and were not well presented. The ambiance and the wait staff are still excellent, but you cannot eat those. I am so disappointed.
I was also quite embarrassed because I insisted that our Columbus-based friends meet us there for dinner. What a shame -- to see a top restaurant go down the drain.
Our server was excellent and very attentive without being intrusive. Each of us raved about her dish. I had the crab cake....wish I had ordered two, it was so tasty! The shrimp and scallop risotto was delightful as well. My only negative was the excessive price of my glass of Pinot Grigio. Next time I'll be sure to ask before I order.
The food was great but the service was bad. We were seated outside on the patio and no one came to wait on our group. After about 20min a waiter stumbled on us and said he would find out who was supposed to help us... I guess they never assigned someone to our table. It took about a half hour for the restaurant to figure out who was serving us our dinner. The chefs definitely got it right in the kitchen but the management needs some work on the floor.
We had a Sunday lunch with friends. Their patio was very cozy (probably the most charming in town), and the food was excellent. The only issue with service we had concerned drinks. We hadn't found mimosa cocktail in their menu, but since this is the most affordable option for Sunday brunch and lunch in many restaurants, we asked our waiter for it. The answer was "Sure! We have it!", and we ordered. The delivered check in the end of the meal was beyond our expectations. Mimosa costed $8. For that price we could actually choose something much fancier from the menu. Not a big deal (technically, it's our own responsibilty: we could have asked from the very beginning), but looked quite disappointing. Despite this issue, I would definitely recommend Lindey's for any kind of meal.
My husband and I chose to go to Lindey's to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I was absolutely blown away by the ambiance, service, and food. I feel awful that I don't remember our server's name but she was amazing. We were seated on the patio around 8 PM on a Saturday and it was perfect. The patio is breath taking! I had the scallops and my husband had the tornedos of beef. We shared the post mortem for dessert. Everything was perfect. I don't know how I went my entire life living in Columbus without going there but we can not wait to go back!
Very nice meal at Lindey's, the pre dinner drinks were very well prepared and very quick to come to our table. Food was very good and the steak was prepared perfectly. The only issue we had was the noise level, there were several large groups there while we were there(Saturday Eve).
I made a reservation for outdoor dining with my teenage daughter. This was my second time visiting and the first time I dined inside with some friends. We opted to eat out on the back patio since the weather was nice. I chose a table by the fountain which was very pretty, however there were a few too many gnats outside for my taste. Other than that, (nothing that the restaurant could'be done), the food was pretty good. I would've liked to have seen our waitress a little more. We were waiting too long for our check as we had other things we wanted to do but overall it was a good experience.
