About Lincoln Tavern and Restaurant
Located in the heart of South Boston, Lincoln is a classic American tavern that offers guests a welcoming combination of home-spun, American fare alongside a wide variety of rustic, wood-fire-grilled specialties.
Built with the intention of being a comfortable meeting spot for locals looking to share stories at the end of their long day, Lincoln draws inspiration from it’s surrounding, hard-working, and uniquely American neighborhood.
Revitalizing a nearly forgotten West Broadway space that at one time housed the area’s only department store, Lincoln feels nostalgic. It’s open-air, tiled-floor cafe, grande bar, and soaring, original tin ceilings remind us of a time when dining halls and supper clubs were a way of life.

Lincoln Tavern and Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
So many things are so wonderful about Lincoln... the food, the drinks, the environment, the adorable Christmas decorations. But I have never had good service here. Whether the restaurant is crowded or dead, our server is nowhere to be found. On one occasion when the restaurant was empty, all of the waitresses were sitting at the bar gossiping. On tonight's occasion, it was relatively busy but we saw our server only to order drinks, order food, and drop off the bill. We were parched without water for 35 minutes. Our waitress acted like it was a chore when we ordered food. We were planning on ordering a second round of drinks (at least an extra $50 to our bill), but since she was nowhere to be found, we decided to take our nightcap elsewhere. It's truly a shame since Lincoln has all of the difficult aspects of an all-star restaurant, but their waitresses are always terrible.
My wife and I went to Lincoln with our adult children today, and we really enjoyed the salad and pizza. We had a pepperoni, white, and squash pizza and all were great. Our only complaint was a not so good Bloody Mary and soda water side drink that had a funny taste. Great service and terrific experience overall.
Lincoln never disappoints. The menu is nothing out of the norm but all the dishes leave you full and satisfied. The ambiance is a perfect 5/5, sometimes the volume is a little higher than moderate. The wings for an appetizer are always outstanding with plenty of mesquite flavor.
The food was good as always but the pizza was just slightly undercooked. The chicken sandwich I had was good but the meat was a bit fatty with gristle and there was not that much to it. Additionally the bun was burnt so all I could taste was blackened char. The other two guests had salads and they were presented nicely and were well received. The coffee was not refilled and the waitress seemed a bit absent from checking on us due to volume of tables she had. Early side of lunch rush mid week so a bit unexpected.
The food wast great. I ordered a BBQ pizza and thought it was delicious. The staff was friendly and our server was attentive. If it wasn’t for the noise level I’d come back for the food.
I guess I’m getting old. The noise level was insane and the seating was cramped. I’ll admit, I went there for my 40th birthday. Maybe it’s my fault for not realizing the place is geared towards a younger crowd. I thought I was going to a restaurant with a popular bar NOT a loud bar with good food. I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years as a server & bartender and my ears actually hurt. We couldn’t hear our own server and and it was impossible to carry on a conversation wirh the seven of us that were intimately seated (stuffed) in a booth.
If you’re going for good food try the place on a less busy weekday. If I lived on that side of the river that’d be my plan.
Lincoln continues to amaze me with its food. This is not your typical neighborhood bar. The ribeye meal is outstanding. When the ribeye was sold out on one occasion, I had the salmon, which was also out of this world.
If you make your reservation through OpenTable and indicate that it's a special occasion, they will bring a desert out without you having to try to ask them discreetly.
Wish this place were closer to me! I would go more often other than just for special occasions.
When I make reservations they usually place us out back, where the ambiance is a little less cozy (they are small stand-alone tables versus the booths up front), but the service is just as good. One thing I will say, they did a nice job with the acoustics. Even when the place is packed, they made the booth-walls tall enough, and something else acoustically that helps so that you can still hear the people you are with.
Lincoln Tavern has an interesting vibe of 1/2 loud, cramped bar scene and 1/2 trendy restaurant. Unfortunately, the food isn't particularly good and the drinks are absolutely terrible.
This place can be fine if you get a reservation and order exclusively beer or wine. Be prepared to have to yell at each other to hold a conversation.
The cocktails are syrupy sweet, uninspired, and likely made with non-fresh ingredients. The food is overly salted but is otherwise fine. Avoid pizza unless you own the salt mine this place orders from wholesale.
It's all a bit disappointing because the atmosphere is pretty cool.
My wife and I met another 50+ couple for 6 pm Sat. night dinner. The place was filled (although it emptied a bit by 7 pm). We had reservations and got a table for 4 by the front when I asked for it - a great spot since the entire front was open to the sidewalk on a very pleasant October day. Our waitress was very friendly and good. The chef actually came out to talk to me when I had a question about food ingredients and allergies - he was right on top of things and very friendly. All of the dishes we had were really excellent. The scallops were sweet, the burger was flavorful and juicy and salmon great too! As was the fresh bread. The onion soup was certainly good - but I had been led to believe that it would be superb, given what I had heard about how they prepare the onions. I couldn't tell (at least in the soup) a big difference. The main drawback, for me, of the restaurant would be the noise level at times. When we first got there it was so noisy that I could barely hear the person opposite me at our small 4 person round table (despite almost shouting). Being by the open front of the restaurant helped keep the noise down a bit, and once it got less crowded it was no longer an issue. Overall I was really impressed with the food and the staff, and if I could be assured of going at a less noisy time I would definitely enjoy going back.
My family went to Lincoln Tavern to celebrate my daughter's birthday, my other daughter's new job and my son's new apartment. The place was incredibly loud to the point where it was tough to hear the person across the table. My daughter ordered a pizza which came out with jalepeno peppers on it after she specifically requested not peppers causing her to send it back and get a new pizza after everyone had finished their meal. My other daughter ordered a salad with shrimp and the salad showed up without any shrimp. Overall not a great experience and doubtful that I will return for a future meal
Really weird/bad experience. Seemed disrganized.
They brought the wrong food. They brought the appetizer after the entree. Mgr came apologized (on his own) said no charge for the late appetizer--- was charged for it anyway. Didn't have the energy to track him back down and didn't want to make a big deal about it in front of my companion.
Food was ok. Good value. Definitely a trendy place, but, I would be careful...
I went to Lincoln Tavern because I had friends who raved about its brunch and how it was the hippest young place in Southie. I had a bunch of friends from college in town (party of 9), made the reservation a week in advance, and arrived on time. We were missing 2 from our party of 9 and weren't seated until they arrived (30 minutes after reservation) and the table we were placed at was actually 2 circular tables pushed together so we had some people (who hadn't seen each other in months or years) with their backs to each other. This was a rude thing to do for a group who had reserved well in advance, and there were large booths we could have been seated at, which was also frustrating. The food took almost an hour and a half to get to us, and we had our waitress checking in a half hour and a full hour after ordering our meals to let us know they had run out of certain dishes (unacceptable). We were charged for 2 additional drinks we didn't order, and we were seated next to a table of belligerently drunk young men using the "c" word and "b" word talking about their waitress. All in all, it was awful, and overpriced. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Wish the service was better, this was my third time at Lincoln and probably my least favorite experience. We had to ask for blueberry bread, didn't even get enough pieces for our entire table, and the drinks were poorly made. Several tables got served food, ate and left, before ours was even ready. Unfortunately I was taking family there to show them how great of a place Lincoln is. I'm happy the food was good.
The food was good . Restaurant extremely noisy and tables for two too close together. Wait staff kept walking between tables and bumping into me. And the bus boy cleared dirty dishes and also walked between tables while people were eating. Yuck. Server took a while to bring me ice for my water and to come check on us.
