About Limones Restaurant
Around the corner from the Fine Arts Theater in downtown Asheville, Limones Restaurant provides an inspirational mix of Mexican and Californian cuisine along with inventive bar selections served by a warm, professional staff. Long before working and training under some of San Francisco’s most talented chefs, Hugo Ramirez was raised on the intense and varied flavors native to his hometown of Mexico City. In fact, he still calls on his mother for the secrets of traditional Mexican dishes, which he reinvents in innovative and surprising ways. At Limones, Hugo’s love of Mexican food is combined with his training in french-influenced California cuisine.

Limones Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Limones is my go-to restaurant in Asheville. With so many excellent options downtown, that says a lot. I have never been disappointed with anything I have ordered. The brussel sprouts were amazing as well as the seafood stew. They also have a large assortment of sipping tequilas to start the night.
Four of us went to celebrate a birthday. The food was really good, so were the mixed drinks. The restaurant brought a slice of cake with a candle at the end of the meal. Very nice touch! I like the service because it is unobtrusive. We were very well taken care of with no chit chat or multiple questions. My only minor complaint is that the acoustics are very live so that conversation is difficult. Some sound absorption would really help. Overall, though, this is an excellent restaurant.
We were pleasantly surprised with the level of quality and freshness of the food. Most of the items on the menu are "different" than you'd normally see on a typicaly menu. The lobster nacho's were excellent. My wife had the sea scallops and I had the ribeye with lobster mac. Both were exceptional. Our waitress answered all of our questions and was attentive.
This was our second time at Limones and our final night in Asheville. The food and service are outstanding. My girlfriend had a seafood stew that she said was the best she had ever had. The shrimp, scallops and salmon were cooked just right and not overdone with a very flavorful stock. I had the pork enchiladas and they were excellent as well. We didn’t have appetizers because we had stopped at their sister restaurant En la Calle next door for appetizers and a cocktail. It deserves a try too. Just as we found with our previous visit, all of the dishes were complex with very complimentary components. And everything was perfect,y seasoned.
We cannot wait to go back to Asheville to eat at Limones again!
This is our restaurant of choice whenever we pass through Asheville, making reservations well in advance. Highly recommended: ceviche (any of the three, or the sampler); adobado pork; chile stuffed with squash; seafood stew, etc. And start with one of their superb margaritas.
This was our first trip to Limones. We each had a cocktail, apptetizer and entree. The cocktails were innovative, well balanced and dangerously tasty. All of the dishes were complex combinations, but in every case the composition and mix of flavors was complimentary. While the restaurant is very cozy I would rate this as one of the best restaurants we have tried anywhere for their cuisine. Our server was friendly and did a generally good job. The only place it fell down a little was in follow up during the meal and after we finished.
We liked it so much we are going back for our last evening in Asheville.
Wow, The Cevivhe! I tried two rounds of their most popular Ceviches which I found to very flavorful and fresh. They also have a nice selection of salsas they offer at the very beginning to pair with the homemade tortillas as a complementary starter, which I found to be pretty tasty. The enchiladas were ok, I was expecting a bit more flavorful entree. The cocktail I had was a combination between a mojito and a margarita, salud! I also tried the Churros for dessert, and were ok as well. I really liked that the Churros were served with hot chocolate on the side for dipping, nice!
However, I went to Limones to celebrate my birthday and made it specific on my OpenTable reservation as well as when I confirmed the reservation over the phone with the restaurant and did not receive any "Happy Birthday" wishes by the staff or a complimentary dessert from the restaurant. I am not one that expects to receive anything for free, but I found it interesting when three other tables around me had a birthday cake from the restaurant with a candle. That sort of left me a bitter sweet feeling about my evening celebration.
We had a reservation for 7:30 and our table was ready when we got there. It was by the front door which I thought would be cold and busy but it was not at all. Service was great, the drinks are great and the food was great. We all ordered something different and all the meals were perfect. I had not been there in a couple for years but will definitely go back soon!
It was our first time here and everything was wonderful! Our server, Anna, was great! She helped out with deciding on which margarita to get & pointed out some favorites on the menu. We had been bouncing around all night so we only had room for a couple appetizers, but we shared the scallops & the lobster nachos! Wow! Both were so amazing! The nachos had so much lobster on them! We'll definitely be back again soon!
The service was outstanding beginning with the hostess greeting and continuing through payment of our bill. Our waiter used perfect timing when checking on us, meaning he was not a bother but we were never waiting too long for anything.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our respective dishes, from beverage to desert, everything was delicious.
I recommend Limones to everyone.
This is a small restaurant with about 14 tables. It used to be a barber shop before it became the restaurant and the building dates back to turn of the century. Appetizer and entrees are very generous portions and one could even split dishes. Very creative menu, well presented and NOT your typical Mexican menu by any means. For two people with 3 cocktails, 1 appetizer and 2 entrees ran about 90-100 dollars +/-.
A wonderful, casual-yet-elegant restaurant, with a wide selection of margaritas, three different kinds of ceviche (plus a ceviche sampler, the best of all 3 worlds), and a menu that combines traditional Mexican dishes (no, not Tex-Mex) in unique ways. Wine list is somewhat limited though with a few good entries, and I haven't tried the beer. Reservations absolutely necessary most of the time. We try to dine here whenever we're passing through Asheville.
A friend recommended Limone's on Facebook, so when driving from Nashville through Asheville to Statesville, we decided to plan stopping for dinner there and made reservations. We had a wonderful meal and excellent service. We shared lobster nachos, which we agreed we would each want our own next time. The guacamole was fresh and delicious. I had the Cerveche Verde and chile relleno as my meal. The cerveche was out of this world. I wasn't crazy about the relleno but I think that was mostly because it had goat cheese in the cheese mixture and I do not care for goat cheese. The menu didn't state goat cheese and I didn't think to ask. I also was expecting white cheese and it was yellow -- kind of more like Velveeta in texture. I definitely did not expect that. But I liked that it was grilled rather than fried. Our server offered to bring me something else and I tried the scallop appetizer, which was very good. My coconut margarita was exceptional too. If I am fortunate enough to visit Limone's again, it will be lobster nachos and cerveche for me with a margarita. My husband had the ribeye with lobster mac and cheese. We both thought the mac and cheese was not quite as special as we expected. But the steak was very tender and flavorful. Oh yeah, can't forget how delicious that flourless chocolate cake/torte was. We got it to go with a few extra truffles. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
This was our second Open Table dinner over the past 11 months at Limones. Same experience both times. You wait at the entrance with No Reception and lucky if anyone comes up to greet you - -you have to find the hostess by going to the bartender, by then you realize they could care less.
Was seated at a table for two in the middle of the high traffic area between bar and kitchen access......really ? One of our dishes was mistakenly served to another table so one person at our table got their main entree 15 minutes before the other. Recommended appetizer : ceviche .
This restaurant is billed as influenced from Mexico City and South America but found it has lost its initial mandate and is living off its initial reputation .
Based on reviews I was expecting top notch food. We went for the Sunday brunch and wasn’t impressed at all. Got the lobster nachos for an appetizer and they were really good. The rest of our meals (5 of us) were not even worth finishing. Husband had steak and eggs and steak was horrible (full of fat & gristle). I had Three Cheese Chile Relleno and didn’t even eat half the meal. Scrambled eggs were runny and the pepper wasn’t anything special. Mother-in-laws mushroom omelette was just okay. Daughters has scrambled eggs and those were also runny. Bacon was amazing though! Service was great and the atmosphere is very quaint. Was really looking forward to finally being able to eat here and was sadly disappointed.
This has to be one of my favorite restaurants in Asheville. I moved here six months ago and am a true foodie. This is definitely in my top 5! The food was amazing and priced well. However, don't expect to walk in and get a table so make reservations well in advance. The restaurant can be a bit noisy so if you are looking for a quiet, romantic night out, I would probably go somewhere else. But, don't pass this one up. I can't wait to go back.
my family and i went to limones when all were in town. it was as good as it always is. the cocktails were great (we all had some version of a margarita) and the food phenomenal. my husband and i had the enchiladas and my kids had the seafood stew and lamb ragout. for apps we had the chili rellenos (one of my favorites), lobster nachos, and ceviche. everything was fantastic.
