Limoncello - West Chester Ratings and Reviews
This has been my go-to favorite place for several years. Never had a disappointing meal or service. The food, whether specials or menu-selection, is always delicious, authentic and fresh. I especially go for the seafood dishes - a little bit of Italian with abundant seafood. This is the first place I suggest when asked where to go for dinner. I hope it never lets us down, I hope it stays around for long time and I hope everyone has the same experience we get each and every time we dine.
I had only been to Limoncello once or twice but thought a visitor from out of town would enjoy it. The food was very tasty and the service was friendly. My friend was delighted and so was I. It's rather a tight squeeze and the place seemed full although the manager said the bitter cold had kept some at home. Resign yourself to having to pay for parking but that 's the price one pays for having West Chester become a restaurant destination - nice problem.
The bruschetta and Mediterranean pizza are both good, I had the veal Parmesan w/ linguini which was tasty, my son had the cheese ravioli. Wish the pastas were drained better or finished in a pan with the sauce, they were both a bit watery. We sat beside the door in the upper dining room that I thought was open but it was just very very drafty and in the middle of winter. Good stuff and some not so good stuff, I'll give this place a second go before I make a final decision.
Love the complementary limoncello shots at the end for the adults!
Our reservation was for 6 and we were not seated until 6:30 even though there were plenty of available tables all around us. We asked about the empty tables and the hostess could not explain why we could not be seated there. Since there is no waiting area, we literally had to stand at the front door for the half hour wait. It was very uncomfortable.
I heard so many good things about this place I figured it would be the perfect date spot for NYE. We got dressed up and were excited for a nice night out. I had thought the attire was to be dressier, however I was disappointed to see many people dining in jeans and hoodies. They seated us in a very crammed area right next to the door. It was 9 degrees out that night. The door would open every couple of minutes and I would be shivering. My boyfriend asked if there was any way we could be moved to another table, but the waiter told us there were none available. A few minutes later, the table next to us addressed the same concern to his waiter. They were quickly moved to the other side of the restaurant. It was a very tight squeeze where we were sitting, and a very small table... our glasses and plates were just barely fitting on the table. Every time someone walked past us, they were very careful not to bump into our table. Until the end of the night, a man walked by and brushed past our table, knocking our glass on the floor and shattering it. The staff was kind enough to ask if we were okay and bring us another drink.
I will say I was a little disappointed in the food. I was expecting better. We both ordered the lemoncello chicken... it was very lemony. A bit too tangy for our tastes.
The staff was very nice, and they did what they could for what happened. However I do feel like the restaurant is trying way too hard to fit as many people into that place as possible, that the tables end up way to crammed together and makes it a very squished and cramped experience. I don't think I'll be back again, just for that reason. Maybe the larger tables had a better experience? I'm not sure. But the tiny little tables by the bar gotta go.
This review may be tainted by the 20 minutes we waited (by the very cold front door) to be seated for our 8PM reservation. Finally seated in a different location than originally indicated and wound up next to the very, very noisy bar. We love Italian food and the restaurant had rave reviews, but our choices were inconsistent. Excellent: bread, soups (chicken tortellini and escarole with sausage), aroncini, stuffed pepper, mussels, eggplant parm pizza; but "meh" on fried calamari, chicken parm, pumpkin gnocchi, etc. Probably won't go back.
We ordered too much food. The portion sizes were huge. We started with the grilled seafood and it was fantastic. I had a salad and it was huge and very fresh. Then we had the main course and it was very generous. The food was all delicious but we ended up taking bags home. The service was very good and since we went on a Saturday they had full bar service and we were able to order a bottle of wine.
We got there for a 6 p.m. reservation on a Friday night and were not seated until 6:30. We were comped a round of drinks for our wait. Unfortunately we had to be out by 7:40 because we were attending the theatre, and by the time we got our entrees, we only had about 20 minutes to eat. My veal saltimbocca tasted boiled and the sauce was watery. The flavor was good. All other entrees seemed ok. The serving staff were busting their tails to make sure we were happy but it was just an off night. We have been there several other times when we had no other obligations and had a fabulous experience. We will go back when we do not have other sceduled obligations.
We 3 were there for lunch on Dec 29. It was very noisy, the server was very good, wine list a bit limited but ok (and our wine was quite good), the salmon with salad was excellent, but the other dishes were good but not outstanding. It was crowded and despite reservations there was a wait. It didn't strike me as a special place to be eager to return to.
The atmosphere is very South Philly, in a good way. The food was interesting and delicious. We'll be back. Among many nice touches was that the espressos came with the appropriate small spoons. Bruschetta and bread (believe they bake their own) were wonderful starts to the main courses.
Can’t say enough about how great everything was! We asked for a quiet table as we were having a Bon voyage / holiday dinner with someone who was about to deploy on a major deployment with the military for a year. Table was perfect, food was absolutely delicious, and our server was courteous and fantastic. We had a fabulous night! Will definitely come here again. Highly recommend!!
I had a nice Christmas luncheon with a friend and enjoyed the ambience. The food was very good, but the service was extremely slow. The restaurant was moderately busy when we arrived, but was empty by the time we left. My friend had the buffet, which she really enjoyed, and I ordered a caesar salad and lobster ravioli off the menu. My friend had to sit waiting for my food to arrive, which finally came after about a 30-45 minute wait, and with the salad and entree arriving together. We again had to wait a fairly long time to get our check and pay, since the waitress disappeared when we were ready to leave. The cost was $80 for two people, which is pretty pricey for lunch. I will go back, since the food is quite good, but only when I am not in a rush.
Food was great. Service was very good. The noise level made it difficult for conversation and we only had 4 people. Also, our table was the first past the bar in the dining room and every time someone opened the front door we were blasted with cold air. I would definitely return, but, if its in the winter, I would request a table in the other room, away from the cold air of the front door.
