Limestone Grille Ratings and Reviews
Waited 20 minutes before a waitress came to our table. It was Thursday evening and the restaurant was not busy. The hostess did come and serve water and to say she was sorry it was taking so long. Service continued to be extremely slow. My wife ordered veal oscar, the veal was tough (rubber like) the vegetables were raw not aldante but raw!! My salmon was at best warm!! Not hot. As it was our anniversary and now after 8 P.M. we made the best of it and left.
Not a good first impression!
Beautifully constructed; lovely interior, with wood beams. Quiet and welcoming. Excellent service. Some food (e.g. salads with protein item added) a little pricier than we're used to, and portions were not large. Food for a party of ten: "OK" to "Very good". Would definitely visit again.
While our food was good it was far from memorable. I enjoyed the halibut with encrusted lump crab meat, although the portions were too big and my son's $36 filet was overcooked. The calamari was nothing special and the service was disappointing. I cant' stand to wait for wait staff to clear the table of empty plates. It's bad for the guests and others dining in the restaurant who don't want to look at have eaten plates. It's so simple but for some reason overlooked.
WE dined there on a Saturday night, and there was a Wedding reception taking place in the back room of the restuarant so that may have been the problem, but 3 of te 5 of us were very disappointed in our meals. The srevice was great, but the food for the price point was disappointing. We had calamari and it was all tenticles, we had the pork short ribs that was like an overcooked tough pork chop. The Sea Bass was the only entree that was really good. I would really think hard before trying this again.
Found the bar quite busy, oyster bar a very good idea. Really no private tables for a romantic dinner. Some dishes are to busy. Salad to much going on with too many flavors, lobster bisque would have been better if it had chucks of lobster meat, do away with the ravioli, and sour cream. My husband was not to impressed with his dish, a beautiful steak filet over pasta???? My veal okay,
Good selection of seafood and meats. Temerature and taste of food was very good. Dinner salad that comes with meal was better than most restaurants. Bread that came with the meal was very good, and I liked the selection of butter and "oils" to put on the bread. Nice touch. No martini selections on the drink menu, but I understand they are working on a martini menu selection now. Still, wife ordered a watermelon martini, and was satisfied with how it tasted.
Limestone Grille has a limited menu featuring fish and steak dishes for which you can choose preparation method and sauces. It also has a number of featured dishes and a large number of small plates. The onion soup contained lots of onion and was topped with a cheese that was just right, not too stringy and firm enough for easy eating. The fish dish and steak dishes we chose were all prepared as ordered and were generous portions and tasty. The service was excellent with Pam offering suggestions and maintain a leisurely flow to the meal as desired.
2 years ago on Valentines day we visited and had a great meal with a rack of lamb, (no longer served) I had great steak with Mac-fries (by default as no baked avilable) this time she had an Oscar which was good but not what she expected or wanted. I had a steak (still no baked potato??) which while being cooked to perfection was a poor piece of meat. This would have been over-priced at half the cost. The salad ane the desert were great. My girlfriend has had a long relationship with the Craftsman Inn and feels management must have changed as she was never disapointed in the past.
Fifteen minutes before we saw a waitress and another fifteen before our glasses of wine were delivered. The calamari appetizer was burnt, the entrees were marginal at best. Not somewhere we will eat again. For a mid week dinner reservation, we were completely unimpressed.
It was a bad night for us. Poor service - noisy ambiance. We were an 8 top - one thought her fish was "off" another thought the steak was more medium than rare as ordered; one serving was not very warm, etc. We were staying at the hotel and wait staff failed to tell us we qualified for a discount Could not hear yourself think. The room alternated hot and cold - Wait staff said the cold air hitting the thermostat kept messing up the temp. In Syracuse, that must be a problem 6 months of the year.
Loud, hot, cold, slow, mediocre. Family and out of town guests all decided the Grill is "off our list".
This was our second visit. I think the kitchen was overwhelmed by Christmas parties because the quality of the food preparation was mediocre. The filet arrived overdone and cold, the swordfish was really poor. It;s a neighborhood joint for us, so we will probably give it another go, but it is expensive, and tis trip was NOT worth the price.
The food was excellent. My mother said it was the best filet she had had in a long time. Everyone enjoyed the coconut curry scallops. My sea bass was very good. The service in the bar for drinks and the service in the dining room for dinner was excellent, both were very attentive and the dinner was paced well. The presentation of all the food was good and added to our enjoyment of the meal. Everyone was impressed with the salads. The wine drinkers appreciated the generous glasses. Overall, a great night.
