Lilly's has been a Louisville fixture for a long, long time. That's because an extremely high level of quality of food and service has been maintained over the years. And, with Kathy Cary, the owner and an award winning chef, every visit is a wonderful culinary adventure. If you're in Louisville and you don't stop at Lilly's, you're missing a wonderful treat!

This was our first time at Lily’s. The ambiance was eclectic, service was attentive and food was good. My only issue is that one of their specials of the evening was lobster bisque - one of my favorites. Although the bisque had a great flavor, it failed to have any lobster pieces. Instead there were several shrimp. I brought this to the waiter’s attention and he assured me this was simply a garnish. I chose to see it as a substitute as I had 6 in my soup and no lobster meat. Despite this the soup was good but I think it is more fair to call this a seafood bisque. Overall a fun place. The caramel cake was delicious!

We have loved Lilly's ever since it opened and are loyal customers. It's one of the most quiet dining options in Louisville which is fabulous. And it is so close to our house we can walk.

I really like Lilly’s. It is a special restaurant, for me, as it was the first restaurant I ever went to, in Louisville. And, the first time I ever had a Bourbon flight. The food is very good. The service has always been great here, but not tonight, unfortunately. We sat at the bar, while waiting, for our table, which we had a reservation for. The (1) bartender was tending, to a couple who were eating, at the bar.
You would have thought he would have given us a cocktail menu, while he spent so much time, with them. No..., he served their wine, waited, for their reaction, fixed drinks, for servers, and then, got to us. Our table was ready, before we got our drinks. We had hoped, to have a drink, at the bar, before going to our table; there really was time. We took our drinks to our table...
The host was very pleasant, I should point out.
Zach, who filled our water glasses and gave us bread, that we indulged in, more than we should have, was great. I really want to acknowledge that he was a pleasure.
Our waiter was good and maybe a little over-busy. He recommended a really nice wine, to go with our meal.
Do you look over your bill, before paying it? We highly recommend it. It is not something we have always done, but you’d be surprised how often you are charged for items you did not order... We had a $70 bottle of wine, on our bill, that we did not order. I thought it was good that we checked our bill, and questioned it, but what if you didn’t? The waiter did have it removed. But, what if we hadn’t caught it? Who is responsible, for this?
In summary, the food was good; complimentary bread, the fried oysters, the short ribs... the bourbon ice cream and cookie dessert. I have usually gotten the special, so ordering off the menu was a new experience. They do have good options. The service was OK, host and bus boy were great, bartender not great, waiter OK.

apparently recent changes to menu items and food pairings waiter was not familiar with. Menu descriptions were good but not everyone is familiar with culinary terms. reviews raved about filet mignon. not on the menu. Scallops and beef short ribs were very good.

We were a party of five having dinner for a business meeting. This evening was everyone's first time there and overall we had a good experience. Lilly's offers very good food and a nice wine selection and a very nice atmosphere, but our service experience was less than would be expected at such a nice establishment like this.

Perhaps you'll have better service when you dine here, maybe someone that is more personable, warm and friendly. I do recommend it for a business dinner meeting, good food for a good value.

Our table was ready on arrival. Our server was friendly and helped with our dining and drinking selections. The Cornmeal fried oysters, Grilled Octopus, and the Shrimp stuffed Wantons were a great start to our dining experience. For our entrees, we enjoyed the Saratoga Ribeye Steak, Braised Beef Short Ribs, and Veal Scallopini. All cooked and seasoned to perfection.
Lillie's will not disappoint any pallet, and when I return to Louisville, I will be back.

I went for my belated birthday lunch with a friend and I had a lovely time. The atmosphere is quite charming, excellent service and delicious food. I had the Waldorf Salad and my friend had the burger and both were quite good. Love the bread service. Highly recommend the Creme Brulee for dessert. Thank you to our server, Edward, (I hope I'm remembering that correctly), for making the occasion so special.

We were in louisville for the weekend and found Lilly's through Google. It was a wonderful find and worth the short drive from our hotel. My boyfriend had the red snapper, which was the special Saturday night, and ate every bite. I had the lamb meatballs and couldn't put my fork down. The wine selection was also great. If we're ever back in town we'll be back for more!

Lilly's has been around a long time, but never fails to surprise and delight with new twists on fresh ingredients. The bibb salad has the crisp buttery feel and taste that one hopes for when ordering bibb. The peaches, sweet toasted pecans, and blue cheese blended beautifully with the dressing. For an entre' we had the Grilled Octopus which was beautifully prepared as were the sides of marianated artichoke hearts and a wonderful tapenade. The grilled bread was an extra nice touch. Having said all that, dessert of the caramel cake with caramel sauce was the best ever, making a perfect ending to an already outstanding meal.

We had a beautiful meal! There were 4 of us. We started with the cornmeal oysters which were amazing and my son who is a caesar salad specialist said it was the best he ever had. My husband had the lamb meatballs with perfectly cooked orzo. I had the gnocci with kale and balsamic reduction, divine! My daughter had the ribeye which was cooked percetly to mid rare. The kids opted for the the chocolate pot du creme and the famous carmael cake and ice cream . They gave us a bite such a treat! Amazing food and excellent service from Zach!

 (Sacramento)·Dined on September 21, 2017

Upon arrival it seemed like a cool and small neighborhood hangout, but the eating area goes way back and is rather large. I don't think the kitchen can handle a full restaurant given the service and timing of the food delivery was terrible. The appetizer was too salty and uninteresting. The Caesar wasn't really a Caesar. The entree special was very good. The wine service was terrible. Since we both ordered the entree special, I asked the waiter to see what the chef recommends for a wine pairing. We wanted a nice bottle of wine. He was too afraid to ask the chef for a recommendation because he was too busy. So, I got another waiter who started with....."do you want red or white". Why do people ask this? I said I want the best pairing. I offered my possibilities for pairing but said I'd like him to pick. We got two glasses of white wine. I asked for the bottle and then the waiter looked at me confused. He offered only from their short list of wines by the glass instead of by the bottle. We got terrible wine and they missed out from selling a better more expensive bottle. And these people got a Beard award?
Why doesn't the chef tell the waiters more about the special and wine pairing in advance? Why can't the chef take 5 seconds of time and tell the waiter what is the best pairing? I expected more.

Had four courses. Was excellent. I had the meat plate...it was very good, but recommend a clean fry cut for the eggplant. The patty cut affects the texture and, eehh.

For my main course, I had the pork sausage roulade. Fabulous. As good as the roulade was, the fried apples served with it were as good a side as I've had in many years. Memorable.

The service was attentive and respectful of the fact I was there with a book, doing a slow burn.

I've been a long time fan since Kathy opened the restaurant and remain one today. One of Louisville's finest.

God I hate to write anything that isn't positive about Lilly's. I love what Chef/Owner Kathy Carey has done for the Louisville restaurant scene, overall... but I can't help that I am a little disappointed every time I go there. For example, I got the Crabmeat Nicoise Salad which I figured would be an interesting twist on the classic Tuna Nicoise. But rather than having lump crab meat it was "crab salad". So picture stringy crab claw meat (of which there was little) in a mayonnaise salad type concoction. The rest of the ingredients were perfect.

And the Fried Oysters over "mixed greens". Came with literally 3-4 lettuce leaves. Small lettuce leaves. And they oysters were the perfect small size for deep frying but the chef failed to blot the grease off of the on paper towels so they were a bit drenched still in the frying oil. The remoulade sauce they came with was perfect. So! Lot's of hits but an equal amount of misses.

Likewise with our server. SO knowledgeable about wines. Oh my gosh did he make some great recommendations. However, there were two different occasions when we were left feeling abandoned, wondering if we would ever see our server again.

I was quite unimpressed with the menu. As a pregnant diner, there were very few options that I had to choose from initially. The soup was good but was not described as cold (I assume the temperature was intentional), the flavors of the Bibb salad did not compliment each other, and the caramel cake dessert was incredibly dry. Fortunately I have had better experiences at Lilly's so we will likely be back, but not with the current menu.

Kathy Cary has done such a great job at Lilly's - over so many years! We were a group of four on Saturday night, and the menu showcased some in-season heirloom tomatoes, yummy. Lilly's always depends on local farmers and most of the dishes are listed on the menu with their source farm. She almost always has at least one fish special (that's what I always get), and a few standards. Creative, local cooking at its best!

This is the first time in some time that have seen Lilly's this crowded; usually it's a very quiet restaurant, but it was quite noisy on Saturday ( of course, the fact that there was a table of six next to us might have contributed.).

Came in uncharacteristically early after a very long day and little food, just looking for some comfort food and a bottle of wine. Opted for the burger, which in the past has been outstanding. Honestly, the burger was slightly warm, and the fries were the same, almost as it was sitting around too long. Kathy obviously not in the house. Kathy is perfectionist so this was possibly a one off. I had considered mentioning it to the waiter, but I was so tired and hungry, I let it go, but I would be lying if I said I was surprised it passed muster with the QA staff.
Speaking of staff, service always top notch, this visit included.

Better luck next time I suppose.

Lilly's is one of Louisville's classic "foodie" restaurants. With a James Beard nominated owner/chef, a location in the heart of restaurant row on Bardstown Road, and a tradition of featuring Kentucky themed dishes with locally sourced ingredients, why would I go anywhere else? But I have indeed strayed ... until last Saturday! My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful celebratory dinner featuring frites & a special wonton dish as appetizers, halibut and veal scaloppini as entrees. The bartender expertly mixed martinis per our personal recipe, and the waiter was professional, prompt and "spot on" with his suggestions. A Chocolate Pot de Crème topped off the evening and we went home suffering from a delightful case of "food coma"! We shall return - sooner rather than later - and we encourage you to do the same.
