Lilly's Bistro Ratings and Reviews
JUST WOW!!! I am writing this review after my wife and I have visited Lilly's for lunch and dinner. The cost would be considered on the higher side however in this case you do get what you pay for. The first time we went we had no idea they did reservations but they seated us with no problem. The second time we did make a reservation for our anniversary dinner. It is a nice a quite place. My wife started each meal with the soup of the day and still raves about how delicious it was. You can taste the freshness. You can tell with each dish that this is the real deal. We also did not just have a waiter for our dinner, we had a whole waiting staff. 3 gentleman made sure we had bread on the table, drinks full and pre bussed through out the meal. As we were leaving we were thanked by the owners for coming out on such a cold night. I over all am very impressed by Lilly's. Great food, great environment and great service. My expectations have been exceeded two times.
Disappointing evening. We have gone to Lilly's on several occasions in the past and all were good. But Thursday night was mediocre. Two of the four in our party left disappointed. My red snapper special was not special; the dish was a mess with conflicting flavors that did not work together. My wife had a similar complaint with her scallops entre. (Two others, however, enjoyed their pork dinners). After dinner we even speculated whether the restaurant's chef had gone on vacation after the holidays and has a less qualified substitute take over. Unfortunately, this experience won't motivate us to return soon.
Always very pleasant, professional service.
Always high quality food . I’ve never had anything at Lilly’s which I didn’t find to be delicious.
This is also a good place to catch up and have a quiet conversation with a friend since there’s no intrusive background music or high volume chatter.
We ate at Lilly's to celebrate our anniversary. It had been quite awhile since we had been there. We made the reservation several weeks ahead. In spite of that and many empty tables when we arrived, we were seated at the least desirable back corner table, with a noisy trio next to us. We asked about a better table and were told there were none available. In spite of that, food was very good, as usual and service was good. I had the veal and pasta piccata, and it was excellent. My spouse had the tile fish special, and declared it under-seasoned and bland. Salad and appetizer were both delicious.
Lilly's is a fabulous upscale restaurant on Bardstown Road and we had a great experience there. The food & service are both excellent, the atmosphere pleasant, and the noise level was moderate. We were visiting Louisville for Thanksgiving so this is not a place we can frequent but, if we lived locally, Lilly's would definitely be in our rotation of good restaurants to frequent. We were at Lilly's for lunch two years ago and our experience was also very positive. We would recommend Lilly's to anyone interested in fine dining.
We ate there to support the Louisville Planetarium. The food was great, especially the burgers. I also had a salad and we share an appetizer board which was delicious. The service was good, especially the person filling the water glass! In all, a very pleasant meal for a good cause.
Lilly's has been a Louisville fixture for a long, long time. That's because an extremely high level of quality of food and service has been maintained over the years. And, with Kathy Cary, the owner and an award winning chef, every visit is a wonderful culinary adventure. If you're in Louisville and you don't stop at Lilly's, you're missing a wonderful treat!

This was our first time at Lily’s. The ambiance was eclectic, service was attentive and food was good. My only issue is that one of their specials of the evening was lobster bisque - one of my favorites. Although the bisque had a great flavor, it failed to have any lobster pieces. Instead there were several shrimp. I brought this to the waiter’s attention and he assured me this was simply a garnish. I chose to see it as a substitute as I had 6 in my soup and no lobster meat. Despite this the soup was good but I think it is more fair to call this a seafood bisque. Overall a fun place. The caramel cake was delicious!
I really like Lilly’s. It is a special restaurant, for me, as it was the first restaurant I ever went to, in Louisville. And, the first time I ever had a Bourbon flight. The food is very good. The service has always been great here, but not tonight, unfortunately. We sat at the bar, while waiting, for our table, which we had a reservation for. The (1) bartender was tending, to a couple who were eating, at the bar.
You would have thought he would have given us a cocktail menu, while he spent so much time, with them. No..., he served their wine, waited, for their reaction, fixed drinks, for servers, and then, got to us. Our table was ready, before we got our drinks. We had hoped, to have a drink, at the bar, before going to our table; there really was time. We took our drinks to our table...
The host was very pleasant, I should point out.
Zach, who filled our water glasses and gave us bread, that we indulged in, more than we should have, was great. I really want to acknowledge that he was a pleasure.
Our waiter was good and maybe a little over-busy. He recommended a really nice wine, to go with our meal.
Do you look over your bill, before paying it? We highly recommend it. It is not something we have always done, but you’d be surprised how often you are charged for items you did not order... We had a $70 bottle of wine, on our bill, that we did not order. I thought it was good that we checked our bill, and questioned it, but what if you didn’t? The waiter did have it removed. But, what if we hadn’t caught it? Who is responsible, for this?
In summary, the food was good; complimentary bread, the fried oysters, the short ribs... the bourbon ice cream and cookie dessert. I have usually gotten the special, so ordering off the menu was a new experience. They do have good options. The service was OK, host and bus boy were great, bartender not great, waiter OK.
apparently recent changes to menu items and food pairings waiter was not familiar with. Menu descriptions were good but not everyone is familiar with culinary terms. reviews raved about filet mignon. not on the menu. Scallops and beef short ribs were very good.
We were a party of five having dinner for a business meeting. This evening was everyone's first time there and overall we had a good experience. Lilly's offers very good food and a nice wine selection and a very nice atmosphere, but our service experience was less than would be expected at such a nice establishment like this.
Perhaps you'll have better service when you dine here, maybe someone that is more personable, warm and friendly. I do recommend it for a business dinner meeting, good food for a good value.
Our table was ready on arrival. Our server was friendly and helped with our dining and drinking selections. The Cornmeal fried oysters, Grilled Octopus, and the Shrimp stuffed Wantons were a great start to our dining experience. For our entrees, we enjoyed the Saratoga Ribeye Steak, Braised Beef Short Ribs, and Veal Scallopini. All cooked and seasoned to perfection.
Lillie's will not disappoint any pallet, and when I return to Louisville, I will be back.
I went for my belated birthday lunch with a friend and I had a lovely time. The atmosphere is quite charming, excellent service and delicious food. I had the Waldorf Salad and my friend had the burger and both were quite good. Love the bread service. Highly recommend the Creme Brulee for dessert. Thank you to our server, Edward, (I hope I'm remembering that correctly), for making the occasion so special.
We were in louisville for the weekend and found Lilly's through Google. It was a wonderful find and worth the short drive from our hotel. My boyfriend had the red snapper, which was the special Saturday night, and ate every bite. I had the lamb meatballs and couldn't put my fork down. The wine selection was also great. If we're ever back in town we'll be back for more!
Lilly's has been around a long time, but never fails to surprise and delight with new twists on fresh ingredients. The bibb salad has the crisp buttery feel and taste that one hopes for when ordering bibb. The peaches, sweet toasted pecans, and blue cheese blended beautifully with the dressing. For an entre' we had the Grilled Octopus which was beautifully prepared as were the sides of marianated artichoke hearts and a wonderful tapenade. The grilled bread was an extra nice touch. Having said all that, dessert of the caramel cake with caramel sauce was the best ever, making a perfect ending to an already outstanding meal.
