This place was recommended to us, and this was our first time there. Food and service were great, however, we got there at 5:45, and at 6:45 we were told we had to leave. Our waiter said they had the section reserved for another party. Keep in mind I had this reserved for myself at 5:45. We asked if we could get free drink to go to the bar, for being forced to move, and we were told no. With all that said, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth after you spend $125 in a restaurant, then told you have to leave. Because of that I would not recommend this place.
The food was good. The steak was excellent. The only shortcoming was cold potatoes. We were unknowingly seated in an area where our Waiter was also the bartender. That resulted in some awkward and delayed service. I would return because the food was very good with the noted exception above. I would also make sure that your table does have its own wait staff if you are seated in one of the booths adjacent to the bar area. Very nice atmosphere in a lovely historic building.
Recently had lunch @ Lightfoot for Husbands birthday. The place is classy . Our waiter looked /acted professional with a sense of humor :) The prices were good and hats off to the chef, the food was fabulous! Take the time to visit, You wont be sorry! We will return again! LOVE LIGHTFOOT ♡♡♡♡♡♡
Overall outstanding food - great service. Very enjoyable experience every visit. Thank you.
Dominic provided great service. The Lightfoot is always wonderful but especially when decorated for the holidays.
The holiday decorations are worth the trip! The food was amazing! The service was a bit slow but the waiter explained that a large party was going on upstairs and slammed the kitchen. That was fine with us, we were enjoying the ambiance and the beautiful architecture of the room. Great place to eat and will definitely return!
The kitchen took forever with the food. Appetizers took 30 minutes, then main course was almost an hour after completing appetizers. Then, when we attempted to discuss the situation with the manager, he was very rude, dismissive, and not willing to hear that we were not satisfied for the amount if money we were spending. He basically asked for s business card and told us that his manager would put something in the mail for us. Absolutely ridiculous and not acceptable.
Food was very good, especially french onion/mushroom soup
I was recommend by a co-worker to go here for my Birthday. I had never been here, and decided to give it a shot. I thought the food was amazing, and I really like how you put cotton candy with your desserts. This is a great place for a birthday celebration!!!
Ambient decor...warm and inviting...lots of dark wood...built in 1888! Crab soup...savory, chock-full of jumbo crab meat. Lobster and shrimp pasta with rosemary cream sauce....was beyond divine! Miniature sticky buns offered as an appetizer were yummy. Dirty martini...very good! Well worth the drive from Clifton!
Attentive service. Gluten free items are coded on menu. Brunch items fuse Southern with Asian. Bold colorful Christmas decorations were still up in early January. I’ll definitely go back to explore the menu.
The service was great but the food quality was mediocre. I ordered the special of the evening which was steak and crab cake. I ordered the stake medium and it received it well done and extremely dry. Very disappointing.
Food was good as usual-service at bar was terrible. Rude bartender who snapped at multiple guests in our group and additional bartender continuously vocalized his frustration about guests in restaurant to manager.
Everything was wonderful! Atmosphere, food, service, music - perfect!
We loved coming to the lightfoot for New years eve dinner. Loved Dominic our waiter. I thought maybe they could have had a special new years eve menu. Could have used upstairs to offer dancing for after dinner and provide a dinner and dancer experience.
Great experience & food
We dined at Lightfoot on New Year's Eve and had a very pleasant dinner. Our only complaint was that my wife ordered the fish special - Sea Bass and it was served lukewarm. We were disappointed.
It was a little chilly in the front by the door and a little dark for a lunch. Service was a little slow but the food was good. Beautiful restaurant and nice menu options.
Took my wife there for a Sunday birthday brunch. The food was excellent and our server was awesome. We will definitely return!
Portion sizes are on the larger side, but tasted fantastic. The fried green tomatoes and oysters Rockefeller are must haves. Decorations were beautiful for Christmas. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Enjoyed my husband’s bday. We had a blast, ate and drank our way thru the menu and spent a fortune. We enjoyed the night with friends and even thanked the executive chef personally!
this is probably the best restaurant I've been to in Virginia. The food was outstanding and the service was fantastic!
Lightfoot never disappoints. Great service, great food. Beautiful building with lots of history.
We haas a fabulous Christmas Eve dinner and Tim our waiter was excellent
The food is amazing, served beautiful
Lovely local spot for delicious food with some surprises along the way. Fish and chips were my choice, and my companion had steak and cheese. My favorite appetizer are the Virginia ham biscuits. Absolutely wonderful every time. The chocolate sundae dessert was accompanied by peppermint cotton candy! The flavor was a delightful surprise.
The food and service were awesome. My lobster and shrimp pasta was delicious. Definitely value for the money.
Never unhappy at Lightfoot. The food is good and the service good.
The Christmas decor was lovely. Food is very good. Service was good (maybe a bit too good) up to the time to get the check, then the waiter seemed to take his time bringing us the check and returning it.
Nice affordable wine selection, very good food. It was a bit noisy and lots of reverb with the high ceilings.
TLDR: If you are going to spend upwards of $60-$70 per person, you could do a LOT better than Lightfoot. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.
We selected Lightfoot Restaurant for a birthday celebration as we had heard good things about it. Our experience, however, was not anywhere near what we expected walking in the door.
The building and interior is gorgeous, it is an old converted bank. The vault doors that are used as part of the decorum are really cool, and well placed to catch your eye. Sadly, that is the BEST thing about Lightfoot Restaurant, everything else is sub-standard.
The food was very overpriced for the quality of what they brought to our table. I selected the "special" for my dinner, Prime Standing Rib Roast. It was far from "Prime", it was full of fat, and gristle, and poorly prepared to the point that the most tender part of the meat was still very tough and chewy, to the point of being hard to cut with a sharp steak knife. My meal was not the only sub-par meal, several other family members made similar observations of their meals ranging from fish to pork. I would have sent my meal back, but that leads to the next critical flaw.
The service was poor and abysmally slow. I have been to restaurants where slow service is expected as it gives you space and time to enjoy your meal and relax, however not at Lightfoot. After they brought our meals, no one returned to the table to see if everything was okay, or check to see if we needed anything else. The first time the waiter asked about our food was when he brought me the check. When I expressed my concerns with meal, and pointed to the pile of gristle and fat left behind on my plate, his only response was "Sorry". He then cheerfully followed that with "I hope to see you again soon".
The next time I plan to spend that much money on a single meal, I will not be returning to Lightfoot, there are plenty of very nice restaurants in the area with much better food quality for the same or less money.
Super food and great upscale service. We are repeat customers because Lightfoot has wonderful food, great ambiance and very courteous servers who are a cut above.
Awesome! Expensive for a regular night out but worth every penny for that special occasion.
Unfortunately we had a very poor experience. This was supposed to be a special family Christmas dinner. It seems that the large group dining upstairs took priority over other diners. We arrived early for our reservation, were seated 10 minutes later, had to wait another 10 minutes for our waitress to get a drink order, she forgot to give us bread, our dinner took an hour to get to us - we had to ask the hostess what happened to our meal!
This was an off night for LightFoot. It was crowded, more than usual and they are not good at handling a busy restaurant. Service was very slow. When the food arrived it was not hot. Not a great night.
While the atmosphere and food were good, the service was horrible. Our reservation was for 5:45-we we’re not seated until 6:15-then it took about another 15 minutes for our waitress to acknowledge us, then more waiting to actually be asked if anyone wanted a drink or food, which wasn’t served until 8pm. The whole purpose of dining there was that members of our party were performing at the Talley Ho theater next door and they wanted to eat a nice meal before the performance. Instead, they had to cram down their meals in about 10 minutes. Won’t be back.
Nothing can beat the ambiance at the Lightfoot at Christmas. There are so many dishes I enjoy at this restaurant, it is hard to narrow things down. This time I shared the hummus appetizer - I thought I was getting the usual plain hummus with pita triangles, but Lightfoot tops the hummus with tomato, feta, scallions and oil and it really elevated it. My entree was the beef tenderloin gyro with zucchini fries. I have ordered this many times before and love it, especially the freshness of the gyro topping. For dessert I got the world’s smallest sundae with housemade vanilla ice cream (fantastic) with a complimentary side of blueberry cotton candy. Just a wonderful holiday dining experience. By the way, the service was greatly improved on this visit. In the past it has been inconsistent, I hope this is a positive trend for them!
Lightfoot Restaurant...our second visit, better than the first! John, our waiter visit #1, and our waiter by request last night, was terrific. The restaurant is classically beautiful inside and out, and after only 2 meals it has become one of our favorites. The menu is generously diverse, and chef specials are offered as well. What we love about this place so much is that the staff exudes a caring attitude, and the food preparation is fresh, pairings unique, and portions are generous. Last night’s pork shank was excellent, the steak and cake, a filet paired with a luscious jumbo lump crabcake...phenomenal! The chef added a creamy Bearnaise for the steak, and a perfect remoulade for the crabcake. Go. Enjoy the experience!
Never disappoints!!! Amazing food and atmosphere.
Unfortunately, the waiter spilled two glasses of bubbly on our table and inside my friends purse (after he spilled seafood pasta liquid on the customers dining beside us). He did bring fresh glasses of bubbly for the two he spilled, however, I would have expected he manager to come over. Also, our food must have sat in the window for an extended period of time because it was cold (all four of our dishes). Rather than sending it back, we just ate it.
