Love this place, they didn’t have what i wanted to eat, was sold out so was definitely disappointed
Wonderful bar and restaurant. Very cozy and great wine. The food was excellent along with the service
As always, delicious meal, good service and nice table by fireplace!
Always great at Light Horse! Avocado Toast is awesome!
We haven’t been to this restaurant in a few years. We’ve always enjoyed it. The food and the service has been very good, until Saturday night.
To start with our french martinis order, the waiter didn’t know what it was or how it’s made. That wasn’t the problem, but he Insinuated that I should order something else. I told him to ask the bartender first, if it’s a problem then he should let us know. When the drinks arrived, they weren’t shaken or stirred, poured at the table. They needed to be mixed- very odd. Service continued to go downhill. When our dinner guests arrived and before sitting down he immediately asked for their drink order. No chance to look at the menu. Our friends also noticed little things. Good waiters would normally check with guests over the course of a meal. He should have checked to be sure all meals were delivered at the same time. Ensuring side dishes arrive together and with proper utensils. But not for us. It’s unfortunate, this restaurant knows how to deliver service, but it didn’t exist on Saturday.
Excellent food, staff and ambience. Cant wait to go back.
we have been going to LHT for years; this is a dependable place where the food is made to a high standard and delivered with professionalism. I will not say it the best Avant Garde cuisine ever, but the quality and the recipes are very high, But the best is the consistency! you can always count on eating well might be the burger , the ribs or the octopus carpaccio. the pace is nice with high ceilings, fire place, a beautiful bar and occasionally live soft music to keep you entertained. really a neighborhood gem.
Lovely dinner. Was seated right away. The hostess was lovely! The service was wonderful and the food was delicious. Wine selection was fabulous and we had a lovely time
Overpriced dishes - muscles were full of sand - slow service - never going back
Well, first thing we noticed while coming in are these giant curtains making the entrance look like a funhouse. Just assumed it was part of the decorum; laughed it off. Everything off to a good start. We sit. And then we wait... And wait... And wait... 30 minutes pass when a waitress sees us sitting there looking over the paltry menus for the umpteenth time, and as she comes to answer our prayers, she asks, "Are you both being attended?" Stifling a sarcastic smile, we say nein.
We place our order. We put in everything together: sides, appetizers, and entrees, fearing we may have to endure our empty tummies for a far longer time than anticipated like when we were waiting to be served. And then we wait... And wait... And wait... My partner gets soup and chicken something fancy name, I get truffle fries, a cheese platter, and orechiette, which I'm sure I'm butchering the spelling.
Only a 20 minute wait this time for the sides and appetizer. Progress. The only good thing were the truffle fries. I really am just going to stop ordering anything with the word artisanal in it, as that artisanal cheese platter was straight up doo doo butter. Truffle fries were delicious and filling. Partner said soup was like they dumped Bertolli's Vodka Sauce in a plate and charged triple.
Another 20 minute wait for entrees. By this time our patience is running thin. As soon as the entrees arrive, I ask for the check. Who knows how long dessert was going to take. Chicken and oreo cheddar was decent. Everything had a tangy vegetable aftertaste, so we were okay with it. Previous waiting experience may have soured our tastebuds. Tipped the waitress and got out ASAP.
The reason for 2 stars was due to the truffle fries and the ambiance. We were right by a live fireplace in a cozy, tavern like setting. Gorgeous! The food and waiting not so much. Would not recommend.
P.S. Didn't forget about the curtains. They had them up to block the cold air from coming in. Didn't work. Partner sick. Yay...
Hosted a business dinner here and it was great. Will go back.
Love this place. I have never had a bad meal there!
Excellent food and service
Loved the environment. Wonderful service. Compatible for both families and singles. Excellent food.
Love the ambience and food is always on point. Nikki was fun and attentive. Professional meal!
Dined at Light House Tavern years ago and fondly remember it. Had rare reason to be near Jersey City during restaurant week and we opted to make a repeat visit. Results were truly outstanding starting with a Paulus Hook cocktail. My wife chose from the augmented Restaurant Week menu which included an Oysters Rockefeller appetizer and Duck as an entree. I went the more traditional route with an Onion Soup followed by a done to perfection Rib Eye steak. Both entrees were complemented by a bottle of wine and tasty desserts.
Always reliable at Light Horse
Nick was our server and he was absolutely fantastic. Very helpful and efficient. Food was fantastic. It was a completely unplanned event after our original dinner plans fell through we booked a table and 15 minutes later arrived. The restaurant is also quite beautiful and cozy - old school charm.
We enjoyed a delicious, high-value Hudson Restaurant Week diner at this atmospheric neighborhood restaurant. The three courses were full-size, not reduced as one often sees in prix-fixe specials. The six oysters on the half shell we ordered for the first course were among the best I've ever tasted, fresh and sweet, with a great presentation. Our companions' steamed mussels with bacon, pearl onions, cream, and beer were savory and delicious. For the main course, I had the hanger steak. Great taste, with an amazing mushroom ragu and sherry sauce. My only criticism is that my particular beef cut was a bit sinewy. Otherwise, all good! My wife had the extremely tasty Cod with mussels, potatoes, leek & sorrel sauce. For dessert, the Crème Brûlée and cheesecake with poached pear and chocolate ice cream hit the spot. Service was spot-on. Overall, a great experience.
Excellent as always!!
The food on our recent visit was exceptional. Normally good but this was so good!! Service and ambiance was great.
I like coming to Light Horse because it's close to my house. The service is always friendly and relatively fast. I like that it is a family friendly restaurant as I have a toddler. We will be back.
Everything was above expectations. Top shelf service. Extensive wine list. Food was magnificent. Definitely would return.
Light Horse never disappoints. Excellent food and staff is fantastic. Lunch, dinner and brunch are always special.
Always a great place to go. I have brought friends, business associates there for more than 12 years. Excellent upscale gastro pub. Drinks are fresh and lively. Lots of comfort food choices and inventive favorites. And of course we love the historical and geographic significance of the LHT.
Delicious meatloaf. Good service.
Theres never a bad night or a bad meal at this neighborhood restaurant. The Fireplace Room is always the favorite but the back is great for parties and upstairs for a good time and a view of the fun unique patrons that frequent the 40ft oak bar.Its worth the trip!
Great food and drinks, great service, great ambience! It’s a perfect place for a friendly get-together, date night, or celebration! I’ve been there for both brunch and dinner and both are excellent! I would say children and larger groups are good for brunch, but not so great for dinner. This is a consistently good place for meals in jersery city!
Food was amazing
The ambiance was nice and quiet for a Friday night. Our server was great. He was able to describe any dishes we had questions about. The food came out in a timely manner. The quality of the food was outstanding. The special soup of mushroom consommé was delicious and the calamari was perfectly fried. The swordfish dish was perfectly cooked, as was the seabass special. Both dishes arrived with nice complementary and tasty sides. The burger was outrageous! Dessert was a delicious apple tart warmed up with ice cream. Great beer and wine list options. After dinner drinks were also available.
Solid food. Service was a bit rushed at lunch, but overall a good spot.
My husband and I went to celebrate my birthday and had truly lovely evening. Food was excellent, our server attentive and the live musician fantastic! Highly recommend this fine establishment.
Went on a Monday evening and the Tavern had jazz music for most of the evening - fantastic ! There is not any places in Paulus Hook this ambience and will go back for sure.
Lechón asado is delicious!! Service amazing!!
Enjoyed a lovely New Years Day dinner here with friends. Live music and delicious food.
New Year’s Day
Wonderful New Year’s Eve dinner with great music, friendly efficient service, noise makers, hats, balloons and champagne toast
My husband and I frequent the light horse regularly. The food and service is always excellent that is why we chose it for New Year’s Eve with friends we hadn’t seen in a while . My only complaint would be our wait time for our 8.30 booking was just under an hour. No-one apologized and we had been told the table just needed clearing. We still had a great night and would recommend to all my friends.
