Light Horse Tavern Ratings and Reviews
My husband, son and I ate here to celebrate my son's recent move to Jersey City. We were very impressed with the food and ambience! I had the duck, which I would order again in a minute! Mm husband and son enjoyed the burger and the pork chop. My littlenecks were briny and perfectly chilled but I waited a little bit for them--the server was very apologetic. It wasn't big deal and didn't affect our dining experience. They had my husband's favorite beer on tap and I enjoyed a tasty cocktail. We will DEFINITELY be back!!!
Haven’t been to light horse in a while because our last experience was really disappointing. Thought we’d give it another shot because it used to be a local favorite. Server was really nice but clearly had too many tables to give any level of acceptable service. Meal was truly bad. The meat temperatures were wildly off, and presentation was off putting. Sorry to see this decline in food quality and service over the last couple of years.
If the website says brunch till 3:00.
You think that at 3:15 You could order from the regular menu. Not so. My wife ordered a Cuban sandwich from the brunch menu and upon return the waiter told us they were out. We ended up with two burgers we could have ordered at Applebees for twice the price. As we stated.... Disappointing..
The atmosphere was great and our waiter was abosolutely polite and outstanding. I originally came here for brunch and was not really fond of the croissant french toast but I just wanted to try it out, since it was different. However, I'll come back to try the other options!
Second time coming here and have been pleased both times. Last time we were seated in the alcove overlooking the bar, which was cozy and pleasant. This time we were seated In a separate room , which was a little cool and did not have the same ambiance as the main area.
The food, however was very good both times. Started with a craft cocktail which had us all in a good place instantly. For appetizers we ordered the cheese platter, onion soup and calamari. All very good. I had the hangar steak with a bourbon peppercorn sauce - cooked perfectly medium rare with an excellent flavor on the sauce. There were burgers ordered, meatloaf and an orrichietti pasta dish that the others we equally pleased with. We finished with an apple pie and a pecan pie....both a must if you have any room left.
Our waiter, Dave, was outstanding!
We have come to Light Horse Tavern when visiting Jersey City and had a special event in a private room. The food and service are always good. We asked for a quiet table and were seated at a wonderful booth. The menu was a little challenging for one member of our group who is lactose allergic, but options were found.
As always the Lighthouse Tavern is fantastic! The service started off a bit chaotic.. with the water order. we wanted bottled water the servers kept filling the water glasses with tap and one of our friends wanted bubbled water... we had to ask several times for both.. after the water issue was settled.. EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!!! DELICIOUS !!! LOVELY!!
Thank you for making a rainy day wonderful!!
We loved the light and crisp fried calamari served on a puddle of spicy aioli. The wine list is extremely limited, as was our server's knowledge of good pairings. The noise from patrons reacting to a game on the television made pleasant conversation tough. That night the mood was more neighborhood sports bar than bistro.
