The food in this restaurant is comparable to $500/plate places (think Alinea and such) as far as the taste of dishes and innovation goes, but it is modestly priced for an elegant restaurant (dishes can range from $10 to $30) and quite unpretentious. The people providing service there are genuinely nice and at the same elegant even good looking, you feel celebrated there. By far the best food I ever had in any suburban place. I was very impressed and I don't get impressed easily. I got so overly excited that I ordered a tropical cocktail (Brazilian - this being Pan-Latin place) and even that wasn't bad!

Excellent food in a city-like atmosphere. Seating is tight and it's pretty loud, but the food and service is pretty great. It's a vibrant atmosphere and the store front is minimal, so don't expect to be wowed when you enter the first door. We actually thought the restaurant was closed--it's hard to see in even in the daylight, but this is a true hidden gem. The steak asada is amazing with the slivered fries that will have you beckoning for more. We had the duck special and were treated to heaven. Everything here is really amazing!

I love the food but we were so RUSHED in our meal. We were told once we sat down that the table was book for 7pm and we had to order. It was a date and I was treating my date and had bragged about this place.

The food came out so fast and they kept shuffling our plates. Are you done? Are you done? VERY VERY distracting and not an enjoyable date. Really bad.

It w as SO obvious they wanted us gone so the big party they claimed they were expecting wouldn't be inconvenienced.

Won't go back. $150 is ALOT of money to be treated like CATTLE. In fact, any $ is too much $ to be treated like that.

Everything was absolutely amazing. Each course was savory and left us wanting more. The drinks were outstanding and our server, Hugo, was well-informed and very personable. Going back soon.

As usual, our dinner was scrumptious! My two favorite drinks were no longer on the menu but they made Margarita Rojas for me anyhow! (Please put that and Spice and Ice back on the menu) we had 5 courses, a salad with poached pear, the Hummus, (we always order that) a grilled shrimp special, Asada with the best chimichurri sauce I’ve ever had. We ending with a delicious little cheesecake with nuts and ice cream on the side. Libertad consistently exceeds our expectations!

The food was excellent, but the waiter insisted we place our appetizer orders at the same time as our dinner order. I asked him to put in the appetizers first and come back for the dinner order. He made some comment about the kitchen being busy and that it would interfere with our dinner being prepared in a timely manner. Sure enough dinner arrived before we finished our appetizers. The whole dinner felt rushed and we were unable to really enjoy the food. With dinner and wine for four people costing $330.00 it really felt like they are as focused on turning tables as in preparing fine meals. I doubt I will return soon after the way we were pushed through our meal. Make sure to spread out your ordering to have a chance at enjoying the food.

We had a reservation for 3 at 530pm on a Friday, so there was parking and no wait-time. Amuse-bouche was a spicy soup that started out creamy, then felt brothy, then ended with a spicy kick! I forgot the base vegetable - I think it was split pea.

We enjoyed every dish. They came out one by one with room to breathe.

Calabaza: acorn squash with risotto and mushrooms - initially my favorite, until I had the...

Scallops with bacon, brussel sprouts and cauliflower!!! Favorite dish!!

Pear and goat cheese arugula salad with candied pecans: it was good because it cut through the richness of the risotto. Light and refreshing.

Grilled octopus with garbanzo beans in three forms, crispy, steamed (or boiled, I dunno) and mashed like hummus.

Carne asada with yucca frites: chimichurri sauce on it, the yucca frites were like sweet fried potato sticks ("pik nik" sticks) it was good but I was still working on the risotto so it was a little cool when I got to it. Still good, though...

So, in order, I would recommend the scallops, acorn squash risotto, grilled octopus, carne asada, then the salad!! I think the menu changes seasonally so go there soon!!!

We would have had dessert but decided against it because it was getting very crowded and wanted to let other patrons have the chance to dine there! Our server was very attentive and polite. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, and I suggest you go as early as possible - this place fills up quickly!

All descriptions of our dishes are generalized, I dunno about preparation and Every ingredient in each dish.

Being a chef myself I am often disappointed when I go out but absolutely everything at Libertad was outstanding. All the way from the amuse bouche to the flan - everything was really top notch. Definitely not cheap, but worth what we paid. I am looking forward to going back again very soon and have already told several people what a great dining experience we had.

The food is excellent. There’s something extra and delicious in everything. The coffee has a slight but wonderful taste of cinnamon, for example. We went for brunch and loved everything. The service is outstanding.

My husband, son, and I went for Sunday brunch. The boys had the steak and eggs and I chose the torta. Everything was delicious. The steak comes with chimichurri, which you can request on the side. Eggs and potatoes perfectly complement the steak. The torta is a twist on lox and bagels. A wonderfully soft brioche bun with smoked salmon, crema, avocado, pickled Serrano, lettuce, onion, and tomato. The housemade chips are light and crunchy. To drink, coffee with a touch of cinnamon for me and a spicy Bloody Mary for Hub's. Looking forward to another brunch there so I can try something sweet.

Overall we really like coming to Libertad. The food is amazing. Our wait staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and gave us spot on recommendations! It’s a small place so the volume level is loud. I took off stars because we were seated in the drafty doorway where my husband had to wear his coat throughout our meal!

We arrived a few minutes early but were seated right away, and that's about where the good part ends. Our table was squeezed between a 2 and 4 top and the noise level made it impossible to have a conversation. Lighting is very dim and at one point some of the lights went off making it difficult to see, forget about reading, the menu. Thank goodness for our cell phone's flashlight. Although our waiter was efficient our table was never cleared before the next course and we ended up having to aid in the clearing each time. Once the early diners cleared out we had 4 or 5 empty tables nearby making us think that maybe a later reservation would have been better. The menu was interesting but price was a bit high for what it offers - $26 for 2 scallops is just too much especially when paired with cauliflower. So probably wouldn't say no if invited there again, but not my first choice if I feel like spending over $50 per person without drinks.

LIbertad consistently delivers great food, cocktails, service and atmosphere. We love bringing friends here to turn them on to this wonderful find in Skokie. It's a tapas format, so you get to try several dishes. And the small sample of soup that comes before the meal is always changing and always excellent. Looking forward to summertime when we can dine on their outdoor patio again.

This meal was extraordinary. There is major culinary skill on display in that kitchen. Everything was so delicious from the amuse bouche that actually amused my bouche in a major way to the cheesecake which is to die for. If I had one criticism, albeit a minor one, it would be that the music was too loud for the space. I suspect it is turned up to try to mask the sounds coming from the open kitchen. The problem is that it makes it hard to talk.

Why are you still reading this? Make a reservation and visit for yourself. You won't regret it.

I absolutely loved the place! Service was fantastic and genuine. Food was excellent, and everywhere else 9 out of 10 times when I order steak very rare, I get it medium to medium well. Not the case with Libertad, they did it PERFECT.
I have to say that it is really hard for me to give the restaurant perfect score, but Libertad definitely earned it! I used to be an Executive Chef and I always judge too hard. Job well done Libertad!

Libertad is truly a hidden gem. Located in a storefront across from the tiny Skokie Theater and seating only about 40 patrons, Libertad offers a surprisingly innovative menu based on Latino flavors. From appetizers through deserts, we found ourselves rejoicing in every course, trading tastes and wishing we could order more.
