Libertad Ratings and Reviews
Food and atmosphere was great. Would have been perfect if server paid a little more attention to our table and swung by more frequently. We wanted food to come out whenever it was ready to be served. We were holding a plate at the table because we wanted to pair it with another entree, not because we didn't want him to bring out the next serving yet.
Food and service both good. Cramped quarters and very loud. The dishes individually are not expensive but when you're finished sharing a couple of small plates , one main course and a glass of wine , it is expensive. We had a bill of $120 without tip. This is not a restaurant that warrants the money spent. We each had a glass of different red wine,( about a 4oz. pour) that was probably the worst I've had anywhere. They're still busy, at least on weekends, so perhaps we ordered wrong. Won't return
Totally delicious, inventive yet accessible Mexican food. The chef starts you off with an amuse bouche - the squash soup, so rich and delicious, we ordered bowls! The seared tuna, goat cheese stuffed poblano and branzino were all standouts. There were no misses. For meat eaters, the skirt steak and skinny crispy fries were delicious as well. Great drinks- some unusual combos. Pisco with strawberry- not too sweet. The margarita is outstanding. Great selection of beers and wine as well. Delicious brownie and ice cream dessert finished off our delightful experience. This was our 4th visit and we will definitely be back!
Place was small, but very lively. I enjoyed the music and ambiance, but my husband found it too loud and crowded for conversation.
Upon seating we were greeted with a corn and poblano pepper soup. We ordered 4 plates: hummus, mushroom risotto, skirt steak, pork belly & scallops. All the food tasted good, especially the risotto and pork belly/scallops! I would return for that alone. However, our only complaint is that our steak was more rare than what we had ordered.
Service was rough at the start, as we were seated 10 minutes later than our reservation. And I believe our orders were switched with the table next to us as we kept getting each other’s orders. Other than that the staff was very friendly and attentive. Our waters were never more than half empty and our waiter checked up on us often. Plates were cleared and replaced immediately. They also acknowledged that we were celebrating my husbands birthday and brought out a small cake and candle for him, I didn’t even have to ask.
WE have been going to Libertad since its opening and have never been disappointed. The food is always interesting and delicious. The great cocktails are an added plus. There is always a delicious soup/amuse bouche offered shortly after arrival. I appreciate that the chef does not use cumin, which I don't tolerate, and is currently overused in most cuisines these days. I highly recommend the poblano pepper, as well as all of the fish dishes, which do change seasonally.
My only complaint is that it can be quite noisy and difficult to converse.
The food here is delicious. Always a wonderful culinary experience at this Latin restaurant. Our waiter Gabriel was so friendly and helpful with our food and drink selection. (Their Peruvian Sunburn cocktail is irresistible!). The hostess was so affable as well. The surprise dessert at the end capped off a lovely dinner.
The food was sensational and deserves applause but the music was too loud and we felt rushed. It would have been nice to linger over the dishes, order more and have a second drink as well, but the noise level made it uncomfortable and challenging to hear those around the table and the hurry to clear our plates made us feel as if there was a long wait for our table, which there was not. This place with its creative dishes could be so much more, than a bar!
Five star service! Different menu...loved the introduction to our meal with squash soup. My sister and I shared the pear salad, hummus, chicken rolls and to top it off,
the special desserts (all 3 smaller portions).
Every plate was plenty to share and so delicious. Each plate had an eye appealing presentation. Open kitchen allowed us to see how busy the chefs were. Will be back...told menu changes every 3 months.
As much as I enjoy the food, the noise level is truly intolerable. I have tried to mitigate this issue by scheduling early dinners in the hope that it might be more quiet and conducive to conversation. Sadly, even a 5:15 dinner reservation resulted in shouting across the table at my guest.
Offered to take a few work colleagues out to dinner, and this was at the top of their list. I had been to the Skokie area many times, and had not yet been to Libertad. I plan to go back the next time - it was that good! We all ordered 2 dishes and proceeded to share them amongst the table. It was a great dinner, and I look forward to going back!
Libertad is consistently excellent. For dinner, brunch, holidays - always a favorite of ours. Every time we take people there, they love it, and they're surprised to find such a terrific place in an unexpected location. The food, the service, the physical space - all wonderful.
Always a good meal at Libertad! Haven't been in awhile and it seems there are fewer food options on the menu but the food is still great. Large selection of drinks/beer/wine. We shared the chicken and skirt steak dishes - both excellent. Our server was wonderful. Only drawback - it can be very loud and tables are tight together.
I’d heard great things about Libertad and the food lived up to the hype. So many great options, so their suggestion to share plates was worthwhile. Seating is tight and there is very limited room, especially around the bar. We will definitely go back but will request more specific seating.
