So who and what are we? Husband and wife team;chef and pastry chef respectively in our 28TH year at Leslie's. Located in a 218 year old Vermont colonial farmhouse, we serve "local-world cuisine" that we like to think is both unique and delicious. No pretenses, just quality food and very friendly service. We love Leslie's and have had many great meals there. The owners (the chef and his wife) are very accommodating if you have special dietary needs/restrictions. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, and most likely Leslie will be your server so you'll get very personal attention. We only wish it was closer to home so we could go more often!
Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff. The food (all of it) was creative and delicious. The sauce from my piscatory was so flavorful I wanted to lick my plate! The triple chocolate delight that we had for desert was sumptuous! A great place for a special occasion.
We had a party of 9 for a family birthday and were given a room to ourselves. Food was really good with a large amount of choices to choose from. The lamb chops are especially well done and the lava cake dessert was fantastic. Server was as attentive as possible while slammed with tables to wait on. Overall a very good place to eat with a group.
We could not have been happier. Leslie herself made our reservations possible - on a difficult crowded schedule - and was charming in her communications and welcome. The meal, the staff, the setting, the whole experience reflects her special style and hurt husband's - the chef - professional hand. Recommend very very highly.
Very nice casual dining in a rustic setting. Food presentation was as excellent as the flavor of the food. Dining area was quiet, well spaced, and easy to have a conversation. Owner/host/service was very friendly and took time to get to know guests. Owner/chef was also friendly and accommodating. Considerably less expensive than in the big city but of the same quality. Because owner operated, a little slower than a typical meal out but we enjoy that. If anywhere near the area, I am certain you will enjoy an evening at Leslie's Tavern.
There is no such thing as a poor meal at Leslie's. Her husband is an awesome chef. Leslie herself makes desserts worth saving room for. Leslie waits tables and talks with her guests, putting people at ease and making it a fun experience. We always choose Leslie's for special occasions. And while the menu is great, the specials are truly special. Serving size is perfect too.
We have been going to Leslie's for most of its 31 yrs and have always found it excellent quality, interesting recipes, fun ambience, and wonderful personal service. Nothing is "not good", everything is worth a try and maybe a full meal if possible. Desserts are also excellent ...
Absolutely one of the best restaurant treasures around! I've been driving by this establishment for years, always thinking I'd make a reservation. When my children returned home from all around the country I made the reservation online, very quick and easy. The overall "feel" in that old home was warm and welcoming. We had an excellent meal, awesome service - I cannot say enough about how Leslie's will now become a regular place to dine out. I highly recommend it!
The carrot cake!!! Omg, we had to take two pieces home because we were so full and is amazing, just had to get that out there. Leslie was a peace and a ball of energy and positivity, we hope to have you and your husband down to Rhode Island soon so we can show you the same hospitality you showed us, thank you for a great experience and please tell your husband, chef to chef he did an amazing job.
Quiet and friendly atmosphere. Leslie is so personable and pleasant and the food was great. You can visit with your friends and not be constantly interrupted by wait staff . The courses came promptly and the ingredients were the freshest. It is pricey but worth it. So many restaurants are so noisy that you can't visit with your friends. What's the point in going if you have to shout across a table? Try Leslies.
Food was good but a bit pricey. The wines on the other hand were completely affordable. We were a large group divided in to 2 tables with all the teenagers at a separate table. Our server took dessert orders from the kids without checking with us. I think we should have been asked especially since it ran our bill up another $80.
The best meal I've eaten in years. The chef is truly, truly gifted. The restaurant itself has a rich history, and is beautifully decorated. The people who work there were wonderful and accommodating of my food allergy, and all of them are really fun. Everyone we spoke to was a true delight. Do get the carrot cake. The pre-dinner rolls are AMAZING. And our dinners were out of this world.
This is a favorite restaurant, John the Chef makes delicious and filling meals. Leslie is friendly and makes delicious desserts.
We always enjoy John's soups. One of us had the wild mushroom & thyme soup and I had the crocked onion soup. WOW!
Even enjoyed the roasted Brussel Sprouts along with our potato and beef dishes.
This visit was to take my 83 year old mother out for her birthday. She enjoyed her meal and for dessert when they brought it out with a candle the entire restaurant sang to her. Made her very happy.
I figure any place that makes fresh tuna steak and my Mother who dislikes fish orders the steak and eats all of it, is a place to continue to take her back to.
We continue to go back with guests or by ourselves to enjoy the meal, the ambiance and see what new item John has come up with for us to try...
We live in CT but travel to VT often. Leaving on Fridays generally implies traffic. We look forward to finally getting off the highway and having our relaxing dinner at Leslie's. It been there for the 30 years we have made this trip and never disappoints. Food is excellent, staff is warm and the decor is country and cozy.
A new Christmas Eve tradition! In this historic colonial, we found a cozy and tastefully decorated dining room of about 10 tables. There was a room labeled as a special functions room, but we did not see the inside. Seated by the fireplace, we were facing the Christmas tree that added cheer to the seasonally decorated space with lights and greenery. A broad menu of American Cuisine was supplemented by an expansive list of terrific specials. All items served were absolutely delicious. Pick anything from the menu and have faith it will be carefully and skillfully prepared. The freshness of the ingredients was apparent. The Chef/Owner clearly brings both talent and heart to his kitchen. The Dining Room Manager/Owner also skillfully and cheerfully kept a dining room of well served guests. The wait staff was attentive, friendly, and as relaxed as the atmosphere in the room. Within the space of one dinner, we have found a new favorite restaurant, and in the land of chef/owner establishments, there's lots of competition for favorite restaurants!
