L'Escargot - Carmel
Filet Mignon, Duxelle, Foie Gras, Pastry Shell, Wine Merchant's Sauce
French Onion Soup Gratinee
Garlic Butter, Herb Bread Crumbs
I have always had the most delicious meals here, from salad or soup or appetizers to entree and of course some apple galette for dessert....
While pricey, L’Escargot dining is a special experience. The sweetbreads with wild mushrooms in a creamed sauce, puff pastry and pear salad/gorgonzola were delicious and enough to share; same for the winter squash soup and escargot offered in different renditions. Entrees of roast duck done medium rare and imported Whole Dover sole deboned at table, with brown butter we’re perfect! Wine list was ample, service friendly and knowledgeable about ingredients and preparations. Definitely memorable and will return.
Felt rushed from the start of dinner Appetizers were good but not as good as previous trips. Duck was extremely dry and over cooked. When I said something to our server he replied SORRY ABOUT THAT. Our friends were very disappointed also. Ran out of the wine we ordered after the first bottle. We won’t be going back again.
Perfect food and service
Always great food and service, love dining there.
The food was delicious. We live the delicate French flavors. The outdoor atmosphere was very quaint and special. The service was excellent.
L'escargot offers straight-ahead French fare, expertly prepared with a few non-French specials. Beef Wellington, anyone? The service was expert, knowledgeable, and helpful, if a bit slow, understandable as the restaurant was full, outside too, and the service staff light. Ambiance was spare but tasteful. One suggested area for improvement: the menu and particularly the wine list, was hard to read (small and light print) in the soft lighting. A Carmel institution and should remain so.
Perfect food. The duck and pork medallion dishes were excellent. The service first rate. The ambiance lovely.
Great for aromatic dinner!
Always a great experience & delicious food. Shawn always provides exceptional service & a phenomenal person. Our favorite place to dine on the peninsula.
Horrible- clam chowder was paste. No clams or even potatoes. Fish tacos smelled not fresh. Run!
Outstanding meal & service.
A wonderful time as usual.
Our favorite restaurant by far.
The service was excellent and the food was amazing! Absolutely love this restaurant.
Great food and service. A must when you are in Carmel
Found this gem a few years back. Knew they served duck. The butter lettuce salad was a little small and slightly overdressed. The soup special white bean soup could have used a bit more beans and sausage.
My wife's duck breast was cooked correctly-medium rare. My breast was a bit over. The confit leg was tender, but did not have full flavor. Perhaps saved too long? Would have like haricot vert instead of broccoli and carrots.
The outdoor seating with our dog was great! They are also trying to make it permanent and improve the uneven driveway currently used.
Will always come back.
Exceptional French restaurant in Carmel.
Staff is highly proficient and professional and food is fabulous.
Food was delicious - escargot, pate, duck, sole and cheesecake!
Sean (sp?) is a wonderful waiter! Fabulous evening!!
We are steak frites aficionados, and L'Escargot did not disappoint. The red wine butter sauce was incredible. Loved that the salad wasn't drenched in dressing---we could really taste the greens.
Our first visit and did not disappoint! Excellent food and wine. Save room for the cheesecake.
We had a lovely dining experience. Sean was an attentive professional server. From the escargot to dessert the food was great.
L’Escargot is one of the last French restaurants in Carmel. The food is good, but it used to be better. For
Example the Rack of Lamb was ordered medium rare and was served medium. Too expensive to send back.
Probably should have been cooked sous vide, but I doubt the chef does that.
Fabulous Petrole Sole! We enjoyed sitting in their outside dining area.
Beef Wellington and the duck were excellent!!!
Without a doubt the best restaurant in Carmel! We live here year round and nothing is better for an amazing dinner. The food was perfect. The service was perfect. Have already made a reservation to go back again!!
Everything was perfect! Only wish we had something like this @ home!
We went for an anniversary dinner and it all exceeded our expectations. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Overall, the service was seamless. The food was really delicious and the wine perfect. L’Escargot was a wonderful
place to celebrate. We can’t wait to return!
Neighborhood favorite. Atmosphere and food execeptional.
We sat inside. Service was outstanding. Food delicious!
Wonderful find in Carmel, not cheap but outstanding French cuisine beautifully prepared. Outdoor dining was great; best onion soup I've had in the U.S. and a small but excellent wine list and cocktails. Our phone provided French music to complete the atmosphere.
Perfectly prepared and presented. Best Lemon drop in Carmel so far, just enough sour and sweet. We split the Dover Soul on special which was plated table side. The prosciutto wrapped stuffed figs were delicious. Top it off with drops of creme brûlée the perfect ending. Can't wait for next time!
Beef Wellington was amazing, service impeccable. We go here each year for our anniversary.
Simply delightful! Got lost- staff so patiently talked us in. Easy pace. Never felt rushed- food delicious. Loved our waiter whose mom makes the best cheesecake ever!!!!
I visited this restaurant in the past and was impressed.
The quality of the food is fair, used to be much better. Their menu is uninspired.
Service was okay, but in a restaurant of this caliber, it should have been first rate.
Life long Carmel people. We have known this wonderful restaurant all our life’s. Cant get better food and service anywhere. Sean is our favorite server.
He’s the best.
Good was great, service was stellar. The outdoor seating was great and tables were well spaced apart - we were able to have our large dog without her being in the way for anybody.
The menu items and specials are extraordinarily creative, and the wine list impressive. On our trips to Carmel we always fit in L’Escargot.
Duckling was overcooked , no one knew how to make common cocktail like appletini , very limited choices for drinks unless you want wine . Escargots we’re on the dry side as well . Patio concrete where they placed us had a big hole so chair kept sliding and was very uncomfortable .
