Always a special meal at Les Folies!
Wonderful! Carol is a delight. We were spoiled— in a great way!
For an octogenarian friend’s birthday, I sent a note (via Open Table) explaining the occasion and asking for certain menu items and a special celebratory atmosphere. The table was adorned with glitter, the menu was spectacular, service was exemplary, and the owner was duly attentive to the guest of honor. A FABULOUS evening out!
Wonderful as usual.
I have had several good dinners at this restaurant but this time was not the case. We were put in the corner of a back room and then forgotten. We were asked to order our dinners when we ordered the wine but then we waited for both the wine and the salads. There was a 15 minute wait after the salad dishes were cleared before the entry was served. While my guests all enjoyed their meals, mine (the branzini) was a very small (although well cooked) piece of fish. Very disappointing for the price. I hope this was just a unique set of circumstances but I hesitate to return.
Have been to Les Folies many time. Always a treat. Highly recommended.
Mother in Laws Favorite Restaurant, so I take her here for her Birthday and Mother’s Day every year
There really was nothing special about our visit this May. It’s had been many years since our last visit and now we remember why. For the price of food/service there are much better options in Annapolis
Excellent food and service. Always a pleasure to dine here.
Excellent as always!
Have eaten there many times, lunch and dinner, and never had a bad meal. Always reliable. Both of us had the soft shell crabs in butter and lemon juice. Wonderful,
Without question, the best restaurant in the Annapolis area. I could not recommend it more highly!
This used to be my favorite night out for bouillabaisse and grand mariner souffle. We both ordered the same meal. Both got sick. Sent back the soufflé because it was liquid /under cooked and had no taste. Server argued that it was as it should be. So disappointing. Won’t be returning
Outstanding as always! First class service and great food. Our favorite Annapolis restaurant for special occasions and date nights. Most highly recommended!
While we dine out often in Annapolis, I wanted to take my wife for her birthday to someplace different where we could celebrate with a quiet, quality dinner in pleasant surroundings. Even though I mentioned in my reservation request that this was a birthday dinner, and there appeared to be a number of tables available from which to choose, we were seated between, and within inches of, two other tables with children with the attendant family conversation level one would expect. The food quality was acceptable but nothing distinctive. Only the service person was above average. We won't be back and wouldn't think of recommending this restaurant to any of our friends. If I want the family friendly atmosphere of McDonald's, there are other options in town at a lower price point.
We always enjoy Les Folies, the food and service are consistently excellent.
We wanted French food, and the food and ambiance were wonderful. I’m allergic to shellfish, but I still had many entree choices which is not always the case. Everything was delicious.
Been here many times and it's always pleasing. Alain, the owner, is attentive and he remembers what my husband's favorite meal it. They always have a list of daily specials and I usually order from that list as they have more innovative or seasonal choices.
This is a go to hit for any special occasion or just a good night out where you can enjoy classics. Try the Dover Sole
We love this restaurant. We have dined in Paris, in Lyon, and through Provence, France. Les Folies restaurant would be right at home in any city in France. The restaurant, service, menu, and food quality are superb and the setting is authentically French. Live music is featured periodically. They recently had a Hawaiian group perform Polynesian music complete with graceful hula dancing and a flaming baton performer. Yearly, on July 14, they stage the French revolution and the beheading of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette! The Casablanca evening was a hoot also. Even the patrons dress up for these Soirees!
However, the real reason to dine at Les Folies is the food which hands down is the best in continental cooking in the Annapolis area and there is nothing in Baltimore that rivals it either. Coq au Vin, Rack of Lamb, Bouillabaisse, Escalope of Veal with Cream, and Whole Sea Wolf Grille (Bronzino) with Provence Herbs and Garlic are just some of the dishes offered. The food is is authentically French, and the prices are moderate. If you like Grand Marnier Souffle, order it before you give your drink order. It will be ready at the conclusion of your meal.
You can't go wrong at this dining establishment.
Un vrai régal..
Love Les Follies. Whenever we're in Annapolis we make it a point to have dinner there. Excellent service, great food and atmosphere. Always a winner for us.
Awesome place! Food was outstanding! Service impeccable! Thumbs up! Will definitely return!
Excellent food with a great atmosphere
My wife’s birthday. She had heard good comments from older friends and we have never been there. The serve was very good: they were there when you needed them and un-noticeable when not. The wine selection was limited but a good variety of quality and price in most of the expected styles or types. The waiter’s suggestion proved excellent.
The food was tasteful but a bit under seasoned for our taste, which was based on a recent visit to Europe which included dinning at other French restaurants. The presentation was as expected and the portions were perfect.
The atmosphere matched the exterior and most likely the style and taste of this fin establishment’s owners. Most of the other patrons appeared much older and seemed warmly welcomed as if frequent and loyal diners. As for the atmosphere, we would have preferred a more lively and lighter interior which suggest the establishment was maintaining the style and culinary trends of the French people today.
Please know we enjoyed the quality of the wine and food, the exceptional service, and hospitality of the restaurant. It just we are in our late 40’s and enjoy exploring food and wine which is expresses as art and passionately presented if not pushing to boundaries beyond ordinary. The menu selection has all the old favorites with some special offerings, but I would challenge the creativity of the head chief and the owner to take a trip to NYC, New Orleans, Charleston SC, or even Paris to see how the blending of old and new styles and culinary trends have been successfully achieved thus reviving establishments like Les Folies.
We have eaten here on and off for several years. Every time we have a meal here we wonder why we don’t frequent the establishment more often. This is an all around great restaurant. There is a definite French flair and the food and service never disappoint. If you like soft shell crabs, they are a must when in season. It would be a shame to leave without indulging in the soufflé!
As always Les Follies was delightful, great food and service!
I went to Les Folies Brasserie for dinner on April 5th, 2018. The occasion was my wife and I were out for a date night. We had never tried French cuisine before, and I having lived in the area for most of my life I had driven by the place but never had gone in before. I suggested we give it a try after looking at their menu posted on their website the night before. We had a dinner reservation the following night, parking was very easy, the servers were very attentive, polite, and there was not a wait to sit down. I have never seen such an extensive wine menu before in the Maryland/Northern Virginia/DC area. The menu for food was first listed in French, however there was English version immediately below that so it was not necessary to have a mastery of French. I enjoyed an appetizer of snails for the first time, the presentation and seasoning was amazing. For the main course I had a rack of lamb with mashed potatoes, and other vegetables with a glass of cabernet wine. It was a great display and came out of the kitchen in not a long time. The ambiance of the restaurant is very traditional and relaxing in some aspects it was like stepping back in time in terms of the artwork. The way to dress for dinner for a guy would be at least a polo with a nice pair of slacks and formal shoes. A button-up shirt was how most guys were dressed. It's a nice formal place to go for a date. The soufflé for desert was very good, it was the raspberry one. There are also other soufflé options to try and I hope to get to those in the future. Yes the price is more than going to McDonald's, however for the quality of the meal and having a great date with my wife I would say going to Les Folies Brasserie was very enjoyable and we would highly recommend this restaurant.
it's my mother's favorite restaurant in Annapolis, so my brother, sister-in-law, and I brought her here for lunch once we finished packing her up to move. It was a great celebration lunch. we will miss going here.
I am a regular patron of Les Folies and was looking forward to bringing my daughters there for Easter lunch. Our reservation was for 1:15. When I saw the menu I was shocked to see that it was the dinner menu at 1 o’clock in the afternoon. Even the specials that they offered for the day where dinner entrées there was not one lunch item available. When your dining at 1 o’clock in the afternoon on Easter Sunday you expect the lunch menu. Also my server messed up our order twice and that is unusual for this restaurant. Very disappointing.
The outstanding service and the delicious food served helped to make my husband’s birthday a very memorable occasion. If you are thinking of dining at the restaurant, don’t hesitate, book your reservation.
food was vey good as always but we had a male waiter who was very inattentive! spent his time talking to friends at the bar. We were there almost 3 hours, not to our choosing.
Food was wonderful! Little chuckle with the wonderful waiter when he asked about another glass of wine while my husband finished....I said I should drink water he said we’ll the French call their wine French water ! He anticipated our needs! The fish was cooked perfectly and the service excellent! Felt well taken care of!
We were visiting Annapolis and unfortunately there was a major snowstorm. So the restaurant was closed. Therefore I have given it low ratings since we were not contacted either the day of the closing or since. We were about ready to go to the restaurant when we decided to call and make sure they were open. A recording said they were closed. We can understand the need to close but think there should have been some way to notify us or at least call or send an email a day or 2 later expressing their regret at having to close for the day. Usually the restaurant has very good food and service and so we continue to recommend it. The ambiance is pleasant.
As usual the food and service were very good. My wife had her favorite Dover sole. I had a Lobster Salad for an appetizer which is a bit expensive but worth the splurge and the Beef Wellington for my entree. That's an entree I haven't seen on many menus for a long time. The beef was very good as was the sauce. At one time it was a favorite entree for me but at this point in my life there are others I am more fond of. The entrees were accompanied by carrots, potatoes, and pea pods, all of which were tasty. The dessert souffle (raspberry this time) was also very good. Service was attentive and professional.
This place went down hill. Service was bad- screwed up order. Kitchen was slow- long wait kitchen was screwed up. Food was either over cooked or under cooked. Steak was over cooked, Veal was cold. Stay away.
Hawaiian Night. Entertainment spectaculars ‘
Duck delicious and the Pork Devine ! Nothing like Hawaiian
Night at a French restaurant
We were looking forward to a quiet meal after a 3 hour drive to Annapolis. Unfortunately it was Hawaiian Night at this French restaurant. I had not noticed any information about this celebration on the web site but maybe I missed it. There was some live music and dancers along with some interesting commentary on Hawaiian history and culture. Most of the patrons seemed to enjoy the show but we were not in the mood for that. We were not able to see the dancers from where we were seated. The noise level was very loud and the service was not up to the usual high standards. We noticed a neighboring table with some unhappiness about a cocktail and appetizer. The rockfish special and the crab cakes were both excellent. Because of the noise and lackluster service we did not order a dessert. Although we enjoyed the food we were disappointed by the total experience.
Great food, great service. I'd definitely come again
