What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation
7.8

Leo's Oyster Bar involves pricey, but tasty seafood in an '80s power yacht come to life. Obviously it's in the Financial District.

Ratings 7.5-8.0:These are restaurants that are reliable, tasty, and particularly good for whatever we have deemed them “Perfect For.” Hit up a 7.7 for Date Night with confidence, as long as you don’t need the restaurant to be the most interesting thing that happens that night.

Outstanding experience!!! The food was superb, the service was attentive with the food and drinks being paced out perfectly. Honestly one of the best meals my friends and I have had. Plan to come back for the next big celebration we have.

So fun and delicious! This place was recommended by a local friend and it was my most favorite meal in San Francisco. The atmosphere is vibrant and the food was great. I would go back tomorrow if I could.

Came to Leo's for a friends' celebration, and to mark an important occasion. The staff was great, as was the food - that panzanella and lobster roll, in particular, are to die for. One note: try to request a table in the front room. We were seated in the back, and while the wallpaper is great, the energy is much less elegant than the very sexy front room...next time, we know.

The Lobster Sandwich is very good. The table was a bit cramped, otherwise it was a very nice lunch.

We celebrated our anniversary at Leo's and they provided celebratory sparkling rose. What a nice surprise! Everything was perfect; we stayed in the raw bar area, and the quality of the oysters, shrimps, and crab claws were fresh and delicious. They have amazing seafood chowder-- YUM. The food is pricey and definitely adds up. GREAT service. Aside from being slightly overpriced despite the quality, the room in itself was very loud. The loudness might have been exacerbated by the fact that we arrived during the last moments of Happy Hour; it was jam packed! Still, Leo's provided a truly memorable and satisfying experience even though they had a full house. I will definitely return.

Went to dinner on a Saturday night at 8pm. They were out of three of the five types of oysters. Odd decor, with themed rooms (ours was a tiki theme, with a portion of the ceiling damaged). Tiny corner table.

The food was okay. The drinks were tasty. We won't be returning.

Service was great. The oysters were amazing. We had every oyster on their menu, both raw and cooked. The deviled egg and the tator tots were very innovative and tasted excellent. Highly recommend.

Had read about and seen this place on IG, was really looking forward to trying it out. The space is just as beautiful as I imagined. Upon arrival, our host took us to a back semi-private dining room. Had a very speakeasy feel. GM was so warm and friendly. Food was really quite fresh and delicious, decor great, bev program really wonderful.

Amazing food! Get the carbonara oyster and tater tot for starters. We brought my 15mo baby and they prepared steamed veg for her separately. They also put my friends who were meeting for a drink at the bar table near us which was super helpful and nice!

The atmosphere in the back room is a let down compared to the front room. Lobster roll was basically inedible - a definite pass. 2 people in my party ordered and both commented on how bad it was - cold and dry with little flavor.

Leo's Oyster Bar has terrific raw shellfish and gourmet dishes to delight the palate. The seating is tight, but it makes for a lively meal. The service is warm and professional. The restaurant is not cheap, but that is to be expected for fresh seafood.

My (now) wife and I have had the pleasure of have more than a few great meals at Leo’s. Can’t say that Leo’s has a lot to do with our relationship :) but the food - from appetizers to mains and of course the oysters to the awesome chocolate dessert - and the bar staff and the overall great vibe of the place - makes Leo’s one of our favorite places to eat worldwide.
