What Insiders Are Saying
Leo's Oyster Bar involves pricey, but tasty seafood in an '80s power yacht come to life. Obviously it's in the Financial District.
Back room was booked so only available space was the front diner area; which with the fixed open door (the Financial District is wind tunnel central) was freezing. The diners were so cramped together it was uncomfortable as first and comical when another patron's meal fell onto my shoulder. Not the server's fault, just really tough to navigate for diners and servers.
Good menu, excellent oysters. Random things were a bit disappointing (steak tartare and moules frites) but pretty solid. Super nice bartender and waiter, one nice hostess and one snotty hostess the second time we went, and they messed up our reservation slightly. Would recommend if someone was looking for good oysters, wouldn't bother otherwise.
Can wait to go back. What a gem the food was amazing! I’ve finally found a Bay Area restaurant that rivals the east coast!
Great food and great service. Too loud for older people but enjoyable
Fabulous food and exceptional atmosphere.
Best happy hour oysters in town!
Great lunch, friendly staff, large portions.
The food and service were both excellent. Very professional staff, and the kitchen puts out sophisticated dishes that don't miss. Would definitely go back.
Wow ! Just wow .. loved it
Great place, a bit overpriced.
I think that the cocktails were amazing and that the oysters are top notch, menu woudl benefit from slightly cheaper items and larger portions.
Small cramped space cafe two top tables where you don't have much room to get comfortable. Food and service make it wort going though.
Excellent. Delicious birthday treat. Loved the whole night. Love the champagne bath drinks
Amazing! So initimate.. great food and the place looks gtreat!
Best oysters I’ve had so far! The ones from Massachusetts were small and briny and so good. We couldn’t stop after the first round we had to order more.
Bartender Mike. Five stars. Belly up to the bar and just follow his lead. Done.
Beyond loud and crowded..oysters ordinary
Mussels tiny and half closed
It was lots of fun and good food too.
Amazing good, and great service. We were there for my husbands birthday, and they made that very special! It was our first time there, and they gave great recommendations. Highly recommend.
Leo's is amazing! The raw bar never disappoints. The servers are great- you are never waiting long for food/ drinks/ to place an order. Lobster roll is made with butter, not mayo!!! Yum! Have never had a bad experience here.
Good food. Slow service. Nice place to hang out, but really loud.
I loved my meal at Leo’s! It has the best decor and the food is delicious. Apart from the oysters, the lobster roll and hamachi crudo were two standouts! This is a great place for anything from a date, to bringing a friend visiting town. Hope to go back soon!
The food was amazing as always, but as always the portion value to price comes into play. The raw bar selection we had was delicious and worth every penny- but where it felt short was with the hot food. The crab & spinach dip was great- but the kettle chips were meh. The moules frites were also delicious- but for a small underwhelming portion, 7 of the mussels weren’t edible as they weren’t opened enough.... 7 was about 1/3 (if not more) of the entire serving.... that being said, left a little more to be desired. But nevertheless... while the food may be a bit over priced, the ambiance and the raw bar.... good to go!!!
Always love Leo's. I must confess, however that the portions are pretty small for the price. But, I still love it there.
Delicious fresh tasty treats with friendly service. We felt welcomed the moment we got there. Look forward to going back.
Service was great!! However this was our second time back and we went for specific items that we preciously had for dinner which we didn’t know were not on the lunch menu. My heart was really set on those carbonara oysters and we couldn’t have them before flying out. My drink wasn’t as full as a few days prior too. My first visit was 5 stars (service, food), my second visit just two days later was just okay with the exception of service that was great.
Quality food. Service and atmosphere but pricey for lunch!
Great to bring out of town guests who loves oysters
I have been here before and had a great time! This time I was wary because it was much more crowded then before. It was VERY loud, but it didn't bother me much. We sat with our backs to the bar and every time someone passed by we got smacked or bumped. A guy even stood at the bar behind us for awhile and caused even worse collisions. Finally we complained to the waiter and he was extremely nice about it. A few minutes later the man sat down and a woman ( I am assuming the manager) came and brought us an appetizer on-the-house and apologized profusely. The food is always phenomenal, and the staff are beyond preofessional. Thank you Leo's!
We had a fun lunch at Leo's. Love the decor. Staff were extremely helpful and knowledgable. The Maitre'd was lovely too! Food and wine were perfect. Can't wait to return
The wing fried oyster deviled egg, was so delicious! Oysters and cocktails were great too! Definitely on the pricey side.
The best chucked oysters in SF next to Swan Oyster Depot
I was solo and sat at the bar, like a few others a bit before six. The oysters and salmon were delicious! The espresso martini was good, a bit caramelly but good. Ambiance is excellent. Pricey, very pricey.
I always live this place because in addition to great food and drinks, the prevailing vibe is FUN!
Sat in the front area which was a cool spot, very nice ambiance. Service was prompt and all the wait staff were friendly. I gave 3 stars because the food is overpriced for the serving size and quality. The squid and octopus salad was mostly leafy greens. The crab dip was nice. We ordered the salmon for a shared entree and it was very under-cooked, 60% of it raw. Spoke to the waiter and he agreed that it was raw. He had the kitchen start from scratch on that dish and after about 15 minutes it came out. I cut into it and again, and it was still under-cooked but not as bad as last time. At this point, my date and I needed to leave for a comedy show so we finished the dish, paid the check and left. I'd only come back to this place to sit at the bar for a cocktail. If you want good seafood at reasonable prices in SF, go to Mission Rock Resort.
Amazing! Food an atmosphere were excellent!
I’m not an oyster fan but my wife is so I booked Leo’s for her but I matched her consumption and found them and the occasion wonderful. Delightful evening was had by us both.
Loooove this place - so adorable and the food and cocktails are amazing! I found it when I went to San Fran last year and this year on my vacation booked it again! The oysters are so fresh and the staff very knowledgeable plus has a fun vintage flare that I looooooove!! Can’t wait to go back again!!
A bit pricy but food and service are amazing! So worth it
We had a very bad experience with service, we ordered a bottle of wine and minutes later one of the managers came over saying that bottle didn’t exist and that we got confused. We ended up getting something else but the server then came back and agreed that bottle was on the menu and might have been old or a misprint. Shame on them for not knowing how to act and handle these situations. Also mussels were spoiled, which those things happen, it all about how you recover and treat the customer.
We are local and won’t come back.
This was our first time at Leo's, having been to Marlowe and The Cavalier (sister restaurants) on numerous occasions. Leo's did not disappoint! We had a really great time there - excellent food, service and ambiance!
