Lento is committed to providing unique and delicious dishes using food procured as much as possible from local, sustainable and organic purveyors. The word Lento is Italian for slow, and we have embraced the slow food movement. This means making everything from scratch, from food that was raised by sustainable and ecologically friendly practices. It means no artificial growth hormones, unnecessary antibiotics, or rendered animal by-products, and a sparing use of pesticides. There are no microwaves or steam tables in our kitchen and everything is cooked fresh to order. Our website lists most of our local providers. We are happy to promote local farmers on the menu so you know exactly where your food is coming from. We hope you enjoy your dining experience and are happy your dollars are staying in the local economy from farm to plate. Very short walk to the Rochester Auditorium. Close proximity to the Universirty of Rochester, RIT, St. John Fisher and Nazareth.

Lento Ratings and Reviews
I had not been to Lento's in a while and it's still a great place to dine. We went for $1 oyster night. They had a good selection of six different oysters (we had 44 between two of us)! We also had the calamari - best I've ever had. Nice wine, fun to sit at the bar and excellent service.
Unbelievably tasty food, but entrees are overpriced even given how good they were. I wanted to give “value” three stars, but the food really was wonderful, so that is worth something. Beer selection was also fairly varied with some nice options for all palate preferences. To me, this is a special occasion place.
Very nice dining, would not recommend the $60 seafood bar appetizer, or the cheese plate , they are very small and a poorly presented. I was very disappointed and embarrassed, as my west coast guests are used to much nicer. Appetizers.
That’s my only complaint.
My mom and I ate at Lento prior to a show at the Auditorium Theatre, which is within walking distance (so we didn't have to pay to park!). The overall experience was excellent. The carrot ginger soup was our favorite of the night, but the pheasant and sausage over lentils were also delicious. You can taste how fresh the ingredients are, and you can feel good about supporting local suppliers. I will be back!
Lento is a special place. The food is superb - imaginative, local, seasonal, and always interesting. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely helpful. We love the ambience, which respects the unique architecture of the building. Nothing is phony here. We're demanding diners and this is one of our favorite places.
This was our fourth visit to Lento and we were so disappointed. We were actually shocked at the quality of our meals. When we learned that Lento was offering a fish fry on Fridays, we thought we were in for a real treat as all of our other experiences had been so outstanding. Not the case. The fish was swimming in oil and by the time I picked all of the batter from it there was literally only 2 or 3 ounces of cod. The fries were equally as greasy and the the coleslaw was actually warm - just gross. When I asked the server if there had been a change in chef/kitchen staff she did indicate this to be true so this may explain the situation. She was gracious and comp'd a cocktail, doing the best she could to mitigate our displeasure. We will not be back.
Lento has become our go-to restaurant in Rochester, NY for special occasions. It's a unique place to take out-of-town guests to try a great Upper NYS farm-to-table menu. The service is friendly yet super professional and helpful. The food is always good, well prepared and presented. Last time, we tried the house cocktails which were complex and delightful. We never had a bad meal at Lento. We highly recommend it!
Our first experience with Lento was several years ago, shortly after they opened, and several more times after that. Our meals were spectacular and special. Our recent visit revealed a menu which mostly resembles “pub fare” - good but not special. I didn’t expect to see a hamburger, French fries, and other items which I’m sure had the chef’s touch to make them different from the same food available elsewhere, but not special. Lento has a unique position among Rochester’s restaurants, but it is slipping.
Hostess forgot we were waiting to be seated for our reservation. Bartenders spent more time talking than serving drinks while we waited. After a half hour and seeing new arrivals being seated I reminded them we were waiting. Our server was great as was the food.
We go to Lento about once a month for dinner and are usually satisfied with our visit. It can be hit-or-miss however; some meals are wonderful with great flavors and others bland or somehow lacking. The service is always excellent and the menu changes seasonally. Consistency is lacking, but most of the time the overall experience is good and keeps us coming back.
An excellent restaurant with high-end cuisine at good prices. Every course we had was a wonderful experience in taste, quality, and presentation. The ambiance was pleasant to the eye, but the hard surfaces (tile floors, brick walls) meant that when the place was at its most crowded it was quite noisy and hard to have a conversation. The service was very helpful throughout and quick to respond. Overall we had a fine evening.
Delicious food! Service was very friendly but a little slow, which worked great for us because we were not in a rush and appreciated the pace. We appreciated not being seated right on top of other diners, and the noise level was fine for conversation. We will definitely be back!
