Lento is committed to providing unique and delicious dishes using food procured as much as possible from local, sustainable and organic purveyors. The word Lento is Italian for slow, and we have embraced the slow food movement. This means making everything from scratch, from food that was raised by sustainable and ecologically friendly practices. It means no artificial growth hormones, unnecessary antibiotics, or rendered animal by-products, and a sparing use of pesticides. There are no microwaves or steam tables in our kitchen and everything is cooked fresh to order. Our website lists most of our local providers. We are happy to promote local farmers on the menu so you know exactly where your food is coming from. We hope you enjoy your dining experience and are happy your dollars are staying in the local economy from farm to plate. Very short walk to the Rochester Auditorium. Lento Ratings and Reviews
This was our fourth visit to Lento and we were so disappointed. We were actually shocked at the quality of our meals. When we learned that Lento was offering a fish fry on Fridays, we thought we were in for a real treat as all of our other experiences had been so outstanding. Not the case. The fish was swimming in oil and by the time I picked all of the batter from it there was literally only 2 or 3 ounces of cod. The fries were equally as greasy and the the coleslaw was actually warm - just gross. When I asked the server if there had been a change in chef/kitchen staff she did indicate this to be true so this may explain the situation. She was gracious and comp'd a cocktail, doing the best she could to mitigate our displeasure. We will not be back.
Lento has become our go-to restaurant in Rochester, NY for special occasions. It's a unique place to take out-of-town guests to try a great Upper NYS farm-to-table menu. The service is friendly yet super professional and helpful. The food is always good, well prepared and presented. Last time, we tried the house cocktails which were complex and delightful. We never had a bad meal at Lento. We highly recommend it!
Our first experience with Lento was several years ago, shortly after they opened, and several more times after that. Our meals were spectacular and special. Our recent visit revealed a menu which mostly resembles “pub fare” - good but not special. I didn’t expect to see a hamburger, French fries, and other items which I’m sure had the chef’s touch to make them different from the same food available elsewhere, but not special. Lento has a unique position among Rochester’s restaurants, but it is slipping.
Hostess forgot we were waiting to be seated for our reservation. Bartenders spent more time talking than serving drinks while we waited. After a half hour and seeing new arrivals being seated I reminded them we were waiting. Our server was great as was the food.
We go to Lento about once a month for dinner and are usually satisfied with our visit. It can be hit-or-miss however; some meals are wonderful with great flavors and others bland or somehow lacking. The service is always excellent and the menu changes seasonally. Consistency is lacking, but most of the time the overall experience is good and keeps us coming back.
An excellent restaurant with high-end cuisine at good prices. Every course we had was a wonderful experience in taste, quality, and presentation. The ambiance was pleasant to the eye, but the hard surfaces (tile floors, brick walls) meant that when the place was at its most crowded it was quite noisy and hard to have a conversation. The service was very helpful throughout and quick to respond. Overall we had a fine evening.
Delicious food! Service was very friendly but a little slow, which worked great for us because we were not in a rush and appreciated the pace. We appreciated not being seated right on top of other diners, and the noise level was fine for conversation. We will definitely be back!
The oysters were good. The fried stuffed olives were a ripoff . They were $1.50 each. Three of the six of us had fish fries that were small and mostly batter. My creme brulee tasted like whipped butter not custard. It was loud and crowded. Luckily the food was not our focus.
Fantastic new farm-to-table menu! The Harvest Salad and Beet salads were exceptional. Love that you can order 1/2 portion! The sourdough bread with an array of spreads was just perfect. The butternut squash ravioli was so delicious, but those cocktails-PERFECT! Recommend without hesitation! Perfect spot if you are catching a show after dinner.
Our apps were good. My husband's meal was great. I ordered the burger which was a big let down and a shameful use of mcanns beef. No flavor. No sauce. It should have been labelled a slider. For a child. But overall, service was great and I would probably recommend this to others but tell them not to order the sad burger.
We made a reservation same day through open table, arrived a few minutes early and were seated just about the time of our reservation. The atmosphere was fun and unique, the servers seemed a bit annoyed by us upon arrival and sitting at our table, but the waitress seemed to cheer up once we ordered. We had the sourdough loaf with three dips, each was very flavorful and different from a typical butter spread. Then we tried the broccoli cheddar soup, which surprisingly came out bright green like a split pea soup. We each ordered the butternut squash ravioli, which was everything we hoped for on a rainy fall evening. Perfectly meshed flavors and textures made for a lovely vegetarian dish. Finally we split two desserts and couldn’t get over the perfectly creamy, homemade, espresso ice cream within the cream puffs. Overall great value for the four course meal we chose, timely service and very enjoyable flavors. Will return next time we’re in Rochester for business or pleasure!
I appreciate the farm to table, sustainable aspect. But the only reason to come here is for the Tuesday Night Oyster Special, Wine and Apps. We came for our anniversary. The staff is fabulous but the food lacks flavor and it’s nit difficult to make creme brûlée it was graney and flavorless. I’ve been to seriously high end, Charlie Trotters (now closed) Alinea, Next, Blackbird, Avec, Boka, in Chicago and I’ve eaten Thomas Keller’s food as well as Eric Ripert. I enjoyed The Kitchen in Pittsford and inasmuch as it’s $$ even the places it seemed more worth it.. the burgers we ordered in all honesty I could get a better one from McCann’s and I think that’s where they get their meats. It’s unfortunate around here either the meals are stellar or sadly not memorable. I’m sad to say this but the only thing that impressed me was the Oysters and our server.. we made a 5:30 reservation and it seemed to take forever to get our food. We knew it would take a bit for the Oysters.. it was way to early in the night before 6:30 pm to be in “the weeds”
Again I am sorry, but it was an Anniversary Dinner and it was a disappointment.
Great food, great environment! Service is always FINE, but never special. Usually doesn't effect my overall experience. The last time I went though, I sat in the back half and felt as thought I was hearing a lot more "service" sounds - banging of plates, grinding of espresso maybe that was unusually loud (?), etc and that damped the experience a little, but overall I love this place.
