About L'Enfant Cafe & Bar
At L'Enfant café-bar, you'll feel more like you are on holiday in Paris, than in Washington DC. This casual and pleasant cafe-bar, with a lovely interior and a beautiful sidewalk garden patio is one of the city’s happiest places to visit. Our menu features a large selection of delicious starters, a menu of Main Plates (like Beef Bourguignon, Roast Chicken and a sinful 3-Cheese, White Truffle Macaroni and Cheese), delicious savory crepes, the best and biggest French Dip sandwich in town, a cheesy French Onion Soup and our signature Croque Monsieur that will whisk you to the Left Bank with every mouth-watering bite. And no visit would be complete without a sampling of our menu of sweet crepes, where Nutella is king. Our candle-lit bar is cozy and friendly with a large selection of Belgium beers, fine French wines and champagnes, top shelf liquors and DC's most delicious cappuccinos, lattes and mochas.

L'Enfant Cafe & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Valentine's Day - special prix fixe menu with cheese plate, starters, mains (choices: lamb, steak/crab cacke, ravioli, snapper); limited but suitably tasteful moderately priced wine selection. Food preparation and presentation just right for a special occasion, and attentive, professional service.
Very disappointed! The server had no idea how to check in someone with an open table reservation and we have not received points on open table. The server was horrible. Could care less if he was there. Felt like we did not even have a server. Food was way overcooked. A medium burger came out as a extremely well done burger. A total waste of an evening and money. Would never recommend this place to anyone!
Got the Gilt City voucher for a bottle of wine, appetizer, two entrees, and a desert for myself and the girlfriend. The food was not great. The cheese board app we got was mostly bread and a little cheese, the mains were ok but not great, and the creme brulee desert didn't have a caramelized top. Wine made my girlfriend a little sick and I thought it was fine but not great. The waiter was really nice and accommodating, he even looked like he felt sorry as he knew what we were getting into... Nice ambience and I hear their party brunch is a must do in DC.
My friend and I ate here before heading out for drinks. The place was really quiet for a Friday night, but was fine with us. We sat outside and enjoyed being able to people watch and relax. The waiter was great (don't recall his name), but really friendly, accommodating, and the food came out quickly. We tried the: Heirloom tomato salad (good, but not enough heirloom tomatoes! Mostly arugula and would have liked more tomatoes), Pommes frites (nice and crispy, loved the dipping sauces); Cheese plate (we mistakenly didn't tell the waiter we hated bleu cheese, but they were accommodating and switched it out for feta), Duck confit (very good... the leg was cooked perfectly, seasoned well, and the mashed potatoes were tasty). Enjoyed the meal!
I've eaten at L'Enfant many times over the past ten years and the food has been fairly good. However, I was disappointed recently to see that they've changed their menu a bit so you're paying the same amount for less food/quality. The outdoor dining space is the main attraction. Go for some drinks and an appetizer if you're starving—skip the $16 bland crepes.
Very hip location. More of a summer destination than a winter. Felt cold. Smallness of restaurant made for a cramped feel, even for a party of 4. Definitely a destination for younger crowd. Very welcoming wait staff. Entree and deserts were very disappointing. Appreciated experience but not returning.
We went for the La Boum brunch experience and it was everything I expected and more. The food was awesome. We had so much fun dancing on our chairs and being crazy. I will say be prepared to drop some cash, but honestly it was worth every penny to see all my friends have the time of their lives. Just make sure to PACE YOURSELVES. It's easy to go overboard here so try to keep a good head on your shoulders. It's definitely meant for special occasions, but I personally can't wait for my next excuse to go again.
My husband and I took a friend to L'Enfant for a birthday celebration. The fact that the weather cooperated made the evening more delightful, as we were able to sit outside. The lady serving us was very pleasant and amenable to putting tables together to accommodate us. The wine list was varied, and my husband especially enjoyed the Belgian beer. The meals were very tasty and mercifully not over-large. This left us with just enough room to enjoy the lovely dessert crepes after. This little bistro is a gem, and as neighborhood denizens we look forward to returning many times again.
If you are in your early 20s and love clubbing and tabletop dancing, then definitely make a reservation for the La Boum brunch. You'll love it. If you prefer being able to hear your own thoughts, dining in a fire-safe environment, and are more of a foodie, you will hate it. I am an old fogie on the inside, so it just wasn't for me. The dancing was fun and the experience was entertaining, but I felt extremely claustrophobic crammed in a tiny space up against a wall with the front door locked. The music was so loud that I left with a migraine. The server can't hear you, let alone make it to your table through the dancing throngs, so inevitably orders were messed up and took a long time. Glad I went, but I won't be doing La Boum again.
L'Enfant was just okay for the five of us. The food was mostly mediocre--steak, gnocchi, pork, but the sole was the star of the evening. What amazed us most was the amount of time the bartender could spend on his phone texting, easily ignoring what was going on around him.
Two of us went to the L'Enfant Café for dinner on a weeknight. We sat on the patio, so my noise meter is for that space, not the inside. I had the bistro burger, he had the tuna Nicoise, and we were both very happy with our food. Shared a bottle of the house Sauvignon blanc, which was fine. What really made our experience stand out was the wonderful service. Other servers who want to improve their game should go here and observe.
I booked the venue to host a private dinner meeting. The staff was amazing, the food was to die for and the venue was perfect for what I wanted to accomplish. It was in walking distance from the Washington Hilton and it made it a perfect location. We are truly thinking about coming back next year and using L'Enfant again.
Hands down my favorite brunch place. This was my 3rd La Boum and it seems to be getting better and better. The friends I brought had never been but they had a great time and couldn't stop raving about it. The food/drinks/service are really good, the energy is crazy and the guys working there are pretty hot and friendly. This is a good place to go if you're celebrating something like a birthday/new job/friends visiting from out of town/whatever and it's more fun with a bigger group. Everyone seems to order champagne and a substantial percentage of people seem to remove most of their clothing around the 4pm mark---it's a pretty pleasant way to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Will definitely be back.
Me and 13 of my friends gathered this past Saturday to celebrate my 30th birthday at L'Enfant's La Boum brunch and it was better than expected! Basically it was a daytime house party with 60 of your new bff's, a stripper, and an awesome playlist. I would absolutely recommend going at least once!
The experience overall was amazing. We were not too crazy about the food but the ambiance and fun filled environment definitely made up for it. I would recommend having a co-ed group... it just makes it even more fun. If you are looking for an out of the ordinary way to end your weekend, I would definitely recommend La Boom!
