Good, not great. Living on its reputation. Lots of other better restaurants in Richmond.
Very accommodating, professional, and friendly service. Lovely dining room Well prepared food.
We had a relaxing and very enjoyable dinner. A welcome reminder of what fine restaurants used to be but are sadly becoming rare.
Booked a last minute reservation for our 3rd (engagement) anniversary this afternoon for dinner at 6:15pm. Why not celebrate all of the milestones, right? Ths service was impeccable, food delicious, presentations perfect. We were presented with a champagne toast to start, and ended with a delicious black forest cake. Everything in the middle was perfect. Thank you to Lemaire, the Jefferson and your staff.
Great dinner out on the patio.
Was a wonderful dining experience! We took a close friend out to celebrate her 65th birthday and she had never been to The Lemaire so it was truly a treat for her. Food was excellent, service impeccable, and Andrew our waiter, was very good. He was always out of sight until something was needed so we felt like he was really anticipating our every need. He understood the menu and, as I said before, the service was perfect in every way. Was a great dining experience!
Lovely old world ambiance
Service was impeccable. Rich was extremely attentive and personable without being intrusive.
Menu is small, but certainly isn't lacking anything. Great selection of gluten free and vegan options.
the gluten free dessert was one of the best we have ever had at a restaurant
Just a elegant night - great bar drinks and then into the grand salon for dinner. Very romantic and helped by very professional service - unobtrusive yet personal. The steak was prepared perfectly for both my wife and I (different cook levels) and was just an amazing cut of meat. We loved our time here and would highly recommend it.
Rich was a server extraordinaire and Greg the bartender makes perfect martinis!! They took care of every detail including tailored menus.
Jessica was an excellent server. She was knowledgeable about the menu, very pleasant, and very attentive (but not obtrusive). Our food was prepared perfectly. This remains my favorite restaurant in Richmond.
Service and ambience were among the very best. Food unfortunately was not. The Jefferson hotel is beautiful and service is among the very best of 5 star hotels. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary so we really wanted to like the food but we were served pork loins that were dangerously undercooked. We don’t usually order pork at high end restaurants so we trusted the chef and server when it was brought out to the table but some of my pork resembled rare steak texture wise. Pork was almost dark purple. I ate most of it uncomfortably but choosing to trust the chef and server and not trust my intuition until I ran it by google. I googled it and discovered my pork was less than medium rare. That is dangerous, I might go back if in the area again just because the hotel and staff were excellent and because this may have been just an isolated non typical instance.
Fried oyster and fried quail apps very good.
Rockfish undercooked. Promptly corrected, but it was still chewy and not all that tasty.
Fantastic. Food was excellent. Service was Superb. Can’t wait to return. My Son said “ Best Steak Ever”. Saludos
Not crazy about choices, and food was just ok, but we were coming from dc when the food was over the top, so maybe unfair.
This is the place to celebrate a special occasion which we did. The food was fabulous, the service quietly efficient and unhurried and the setting calming and attractive. It was a memorable evening. Thank you.
My first visit for our 25th wedding anniversary. Everyone made our visit so special, from a personalized menu to a congratulatory message on our dessert plate. Waitstaff were very attentive but not overbearing. Menu offered a wide variety and our choices were excellent. Surroundings were lovely and pristine. Perfect location for our celebration.
Every experience at this wonderful restaurant is incredible. The food, service, atmosphere, everything. Just lovely and a memorable experience. Thank you!!
One of my favorite restaurants. Beautiful setting in a beautiful hotel. Quiet and elegant. Very attentive wait staff. The scallops served on a bed of polenta with a small delicious salad on the side made for a very delicious dinner. My wife had the salmon which she also loved. And the chocolate cake for dessert was equally delicious. Espresso was perfect.
From the moment we stepped through the restaurant's doors, the service was attentive without being overbearing and the food was exceptional without being pretentious. We enjoyed cocktails and the BBQ meatballs as app in the bar area. Enjoyed the setting and many small tables which allowed customers to spread out. Jared our server in the bar was attentive and helpful. Obviously well trained. Then we were seated in a quiet part of the restaurant with book lined walls and a fake fireplace.
Service here was exceptional too. Jessica was our server for dinner and she was wonderful too. Paced the meal and, again, the exceptional training came thru. Had the crispy oysters for appetizer and the pork loin for entree. The pork was unique and really, really good. Enjoyed everything we ate! They even printed special menus for the occasion (a birthday celebration). Southern, genuine and warm hospitality was showcased during the whole evening. Wonderful!
We ordered the crab cake, fried oysters, and fried green tomatoes for starters and all were amazing. I had a snook fish special which was perfect; I also tasted the scallops and burger which were great as well. Bruce was an excellent server; he explained every item in such great detail. The only thing I’d change would be the lighting of the restaurant. It’s very bright which isn’t typical for an evening dinner at a fine restaurant. Bruce did dim the lights for us after we mentioned it though!
The food was excellent and prepared to perfection. The service was outstanding.
Celebrated wedding anniversary and we very pleased how restaurant made our date very special Thank you!
The service was excellent. James, our waiter, answered all our questions with ease. The food was superb and presented extremely well. The dessert was "to die for" and also vegan, which meant I did not have to worry about my lactose allergy. But trust me, the Grand Marnier chocolate cake did not lack a thing. Delicious. Bottom line, we loved it and were sorry when the meal was complete.
Our server was Michael, he was THE MAN. Super funny, really friendly, and down to earth. Not as uppity as I would expect from a place like that. It was nice to have a cool chill waiter at an upscale restaurant. Food was good too.
Excellent Food ,atmosphere and service in a beautiful hotel
Visiting Richmond for a special occasion and needed a special occasion restaurant for dinner. Could not have made a better choice than Lemaire. There was not a single aspect of the dinner that was not superb. Service was impeccable, the venue is elegant, and every dish in every course was beautifully and expertly prepared. We will be visiting Richmond more regularly in the future and plan on enjoying Lemaire again (and again . . . ).
Amazing Southern charm restaurant with decadent food!!! Make sure you go to the bar first for a cocktail to take in the ambience there before dinner. Highly recommend the desserts after dinner if you have any room left after dinner!!!
Food was delicious and service was very good. Only note, our waiter did not know how to serve wine. He leaned the bottle on the glass and spilled down the glass. I expected better from this category of restaurant. I noticed the other waiter knew how to properly serve wine. In honour of our anniversary, they gave us menus wishing us happy anniversary and the desert plate had happy anniversary written in chocolate, very nice touches.
The Food was very good. The service was very good. The ambiance was a little austere, perhaps in keeping with the Hotels period. The high ceilings and space were very nice, perhaps the lighting was not quite up to par with the rest of experience, maybe a little more flowers and artwork would improve things.
However, we would and plan on going back.
Melanie is amazing!
Great place to take pictures and spend lavishly! The menu was not very diverse and the portions were too small . I was there with my wife to celebrate and take the pictures from the hotel but we were underwhelmed by the admittedly overpriced menu
It was our anniversary and my wife ordered the filet and I ordered the quail. The quail was excellent but my wife’s steak was ordered medium and it came out medium seared and almost raw. Why can’t anybody these day cook a steak to the proper temperature?!!!. On top of this they never comped her food considering they had to remake it and I was almost done by time she got her food again. So my wife and I on our special evening I had to eat with out her because she insisted l!!
Excellent meal in a quiet setting, celebrating our wedding anniversary. We started with raw oysters, which came perfectly garnished with shallots and a mignonette sauce. Then we had a special appetizer of a local fish, a version of puffer, which was fried and creatively presented with a mild creole sauce. For our main course, we shared the tile fish, which was tasty although simply prepared. The dessert was creme brulee with corn, probably the best creme brulee we have ever had.
Our menu, as well as our dessert dish, displayed, "Happy Anniversary"-- such a nice touch. The expert attention of our server, Lori, enhanced the experience.
A pleasant surprise. We were going to a show in Richmond because it was my wife's birthday so we just googled restaurants in the immediate area. This one got good reviews so we chose it. I'm a little hesitant to eat at hotel restaurants because the food can be iffy. But not here. Whoever they have cooking in their kitchen knows their stuff. Everything was fresh, delicious, hot and perfectly prepared. The service was prompt and courteous. The ambience was formal, but not stiff. I'd recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
My wife and I spend much of the year traveling in our motorhome, sampling the best restaurants in each city we visit along the way. When we're back home in Richmond, we try to hit a few of the old favorites, along with some of the hot new venues that have just opened. This time, we decided to try one of Richmond's oldest fine dining establishments, Lemaire at The Jefferson, for the first time in many years. After experiencing our dinner at Lemaire, our only complaint was that we had waited so long to return here - everything was outstanding, from the way the valet parkers greeted us at the door, through the unbelievable food and service, and including the delightful Old Richmond ambience. I have to say that it was at least the equal of anything we've encountered on our travels, and certainly one of the top restaurants in this city. We will certainly be back.
Lemaire is one of the rare things in life that just never, ever disappoints. We’ve shared more anniversaries and special occasions there than we can count and it’s always our first choice for anything worth celebrating. That the incredible fare is matched by such attentive and skilled service and perfect atmosphere makes Lemaire the rare and wonderful gem that it is, not to mention that it is so distinctively Richmond in all ways good and right. We just couldn’t recommend a restaurant with more enthusiasm. If you give it a try, we hope you’ll fall in love with it like we have.
Great, seasonal food. The new menu has a few less choices but still good. Great salad choices and the gazpacho was amazing.
