It was our anniversary and my wife ordered the filet and I ordered the quail. The quail was excellent but my wife’s steak was ordered medium and it came out medium seared and almost raw. Why can’t anybody these day cook a steak to the proper temperature?!!!. On top of this they never comped her food considering they had to remake it and I was almost done by time she got her food again. So my wife and I on our special evening I had to eat with out her because she insisted l!!
Excellent meal in a quiet setting, celebrating our wedding anniversary. We started with raw oysters, which came perfectly garnished with shallots and a mignonette sauce. Then we had a special appetizer of a local fish, a version of puffer, which was fried and creatively presented with a mild creole sauce. For our main course, we shared the tile fish, which was tasty although simply prepared. The dessert was creme brulee with corn, probably the best creme brulee we have ever had.
Our menu, as well as our dessert dish, displayed, "Happy Anniversary"-- such a nice touch. The expert attention of our server, Lori, enhanced the experience.
A pleasant surprise. We were going to a show in Richmond because it was my wife's birthday so we just googled restaurants in the immediate area. This one got good reviews so we chose it. I'm a little hesitant to eat at hotel restaurants because the food can be iffy. But not here. Whoever they have cooking in their kitchen knows their stuff. Everything was fresh, delicious, hot and perfectly prepared. The service was prompt and courteous. The ambience was formal, but not stiff. I'd recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
My wife and I spend much of the year traveling in our motorhome, sampling the best restaurants in each city we visit along the way. When we're back home in Richmond, we try to hit a few of the old favorites, along with some of the hot new venues that have just opened. This time, we decided to try one of Richmond's oldest fine dining establishments, Lemaire at The Jefferson, for the first time in many years. After experiencing our dinner at Lemaire, our only complaint was that we had waited so long to return here - everything was outstanding, from the way the valet parkers greeted us at the door, through the unbelievable food and service, and including the delightful Old Richmond ambience. I have to say that it was at least the equal of anything we've encountered on our travels, and certainly one of the top restaurants in this city. We will certainly be back.
Lemaire is one of the rare things in life that just never, ever disappoints. We’ve shared more anniversaries and special occasions there than we can count and it’s always our first choice for anything worth celebrating. That the incredible fare is matched by such attentive and skilled service and perfect atmosphere makes Lemaire the rare and wonderful gem that it is, not to mention that it is so distinctively Richmond in all ways good and right. We just couldn’t recommend a restaurant with more enthusiasm. If you give it a try, we hope you’ll fall in love with it like we have.
Great, seasonal food. The new menu has a few less choices but still good. Great salad choices and the gazpacho was amazing.
Lamaire is an elegant room in a great old hotel. The service was excellent and the waiter Ryan knew the food, knew the wine and was very attentive. He asked all the right questions. For instance we ordered several appetizers to sample the chef's skills and he asked the order we'd liked them served and whether we wanted any of them served together. We ordered martinis and a bottle of red wine and after we had been drinking our martinis a few minutes, asked when to open the wine and whether to pour it. The food was exceptional...creative in both preparation and display. I've never pared prosciutto with fried oysters before, but it worked well. I'd definitely recommend Lemaire to others.
Definitely one of our favorite restaurants we've ever eaten. We lived in Europe for almost ten years and the food, ambiance, service, decor with southern flavor shouldn't envy other locations worldwide.
I was very disappointed with my last visit. The service was simply not up to past experiences. We waited 10 minutes before we were given any menus or were acknowledged after the hostess seated us. This is highly unusual. We were also disappointed that the only option for our gluten-free friend who was in from out of town, were rice crackers. It is surprising that such a nice restaurant didn't do anything more to accommodate her. We did let them know she was GF in the notes when the reservation was made. Most of the meal our server was strangely absent. Our glasses of water were almost empty for the duration of the meal. Some other servers tried to fill in and did bring water eventually. We chose Lemaire because it is a great Richmond landmark and we had never had a bad experience. We will not be in a rush to come back. In a city with amazing restaurants, I hope Lemaire doesn't lose sight of the fact that choices for a nice meal are plentiful. I don't typically complain about things but I felt like you should be aware that someone dropped the ball that night. We were embarrassed that the experience was so bad since we really wanted to take our friend somewhere special.
Outstanding in every respect. One or Richmond's finest.
Yes, it's such a beautiful location, and the food was superb.
Creative, inspired cuisine served by a gracious waitstaff in an elegant dining room. The desserts were good but not up to the superb quality of the starters and entrees.
Nick, our server, was perfect! Very knowledgeable about the menu selections and wine recommendations. Dinner was delicious. Great anniversary celebration
Lemaire is our favorite restaurant in Richmond, as well as in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We always look forward to dining there when we stay at the Jefferson. Excellent wait service and quality of food. Thank you for such a high quality and dynamic restaurant.
Everything was great except our server could have been a bit more friendly. The physical restaurant is beautiful and opulent and walks the line of elegant vs. pretentious. They will validate valet parking. The fish was great, the steak was great but we felt like other patrons received warmer hospitality than we did from the same waiter...there was a level of coldness - perhaps he was having an off day. I'm not sure I would return for $200+ but I would like to experience the menu during the holiday season and try the Sunday brunch held by the hotel sometime.
Delightful evening meal at Lemaire! Each course offered fresh and interesting garnishes which complimented the main component...crabcakes were flanked by a pistachio puree, tiny flash-fried onion rings and frissee. A bonus was the waiter who, in requesting our city of residence, had five family members who were graduates of the University where we were professors. Serendipity! Service was excellent and we appreciated the quiet ambience.
Everything was just wonderful. It was the perfect place to celebrate my husband's birthday and the staff definitely did a superb job in recognizing his special day as well. Thank you!
Both the service and the food were outstanding. Just when we were ready to order the next course, our server would be right back at the table. The food was amazing and beautifully plated. I had the salmon and the vegan chocolate cake dessert. Would highly recommend both. Overall, it was a great experience (and parking was easy).
We were celebrating a Birthday. Our extire experience was outstanding and all the staff were friendly and helpful.
Celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with dinner at Lemaire. Ambiance was great. Beautiful setting in a wonderful old hotel in Richmond. Food, including presentation, was exceptional. Our waiter was friendly, outgoing, and extremely knowledgeable - he knew the smallest details about everything on the menu and helped guide us to a really nice wine choice. My wife and I shared a dessert that was served on a dish the kitchen had very thoughtfully inscribed with the words "Happy Anniversary." Truly an unforgettable evening.
Son going off to college and a special dinner before he left.
We were there to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and had a wonderful time!
Lori and Sean were excellent. The meal superb!!
There are never enough superlatives to describe the experience at the Jefferson and at Lemaire. There is a reason these are the finest establishments in Richmond. Everything is always...perfect.
Incredible waitstaff and service, delightful meals all cooked to perfection. Will definitely come back again!
Food was good but too much salt. Salad had some bad lettuce leafs. Surprised they don't stock Tangueray gin in the bar.
Perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. Service and food was outstanding!
A lovely birthday dinner, served by consummate waiter Rich, amazing food in an an amazing dining room.
Lemaire is a wonderful restaurant. My wife and I thought the food was great and the wait staff was very friendly and helpful and knew how to make our experience 5 star. We thought the price was very reasonable compared to even lesser known, lesser quality restaurants.
Our waiter, Matt, helped make this outstanding restaurant even more so. Knowledgeable, personable, and experienced.
My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner and we could have not been more pleased! Our waitress was absolutely amazing. She took time to explain to us what the restaurant was all about and whenever we had a question for her she was there and ready to answer. The food was spectacular! I grew up with a dad that travelled constantly and has very high expectations as far as food goes, which translated over to me and I had nothing to complain about at all. Try the more exotic things on the menu — you will not be disappointed. I could not rave about this restaurant and our experience there more! I DEFINITELY recommend!
Our Anniversary Dinner was everything we could have hoped for and more. Our waiter helped us select one of the best wines we have ever had and the service was impeccable.
Amazing experience! Food was incredible!
First time. Completely impressed. Food and service more than lived up to expectations. Dessert took way too long to arrive, the server acknowledged it before we could complain and apologized. Would have been a class move if they took it off our bill.
Love Lori ! And love the cuisine and ambiance. Chauncey was terrific and his gentle manner and wine suggestion were just out of the ballpark !!
Always amazing! Service is superb. Thank you for making the peaches and cream dessert possible!
We had a delicious meal and excellent service from James. The room and lighting could be improved.
Everything about Leisure at The Jefferson is simply superb. It is wonderfully elegant and quiet. The food and service are beyond compare. It is expensive, do it is a special occasion restaurant.
Loved it everything about it was great, the staff was incredible. Great location and the free shuttle was perfect. Will definitely come back. In fact we have already booked our next stay.
