Lehja Ratings and Reviews
I frequent Lehja because it is consistently great. Service and food are both always on point. Every time I go, the owner stops by the table to check on things and always shares some story or information about the food prep that is always interesting. Last visits he told us the restaurant uses his mom's recipes. This time he told us about the extensive process of rinsing the rice. Delicious and authentic Indian food! I won't go anywhere else for my Indian food fix:)
Much good. Such wow. Very food!
This place was in-freaking-credible. You see 4.5+ stars and you wonder... Are they actually as good as all that? Let me say, I would move to Richmond just to get up in this restaurant. Hands down the best Indian food I've ever tasted. Deserts were good, not great. Food was exceptional.
Only thing I'd say is they could use some background music or something to make the dining experience less stark, or if you don't want to talk to the people you came with.
Don't bring a date though. The food is too good. You'll both eat till you're stuffed, and then it's nap time...
Fabulous anniversary dinner thanks to Sunny and company. He picked us a divine bottle of champagne and made a special dish for me when I couldn't decide what I wanted. Fabulous service, food and wine. There's a reason why this is one of the few restaurants at which we dine.
It's always great to have a chance to have a good meal with friends. Even better when the quality of the food and service is something you never have to think twice about. More than a few items on the menu we asked to be changed to suit our wishes. It was done without hesitation. Staff made suggestions regarding food and beverage, all were spot on.
The food is simply outstanding with one of the best service experience I have encountered in RVA. Got a chance to meet Seems like the Owner / Chef , who was very passionate about and proud of what they do.
Decor is not your typical Indian restaurants .
I had Beet Root - Ragda Tikki , was simply outstanding . It was like Beet Meat Balls .
I have never seen a duck dish in an Indian place , Duck Ala Pondicherry was simply out of this world . Delicious !!
Wild Mushroom Bread , Kulfi Pistachio the list keep going on !! Did I mention the Wine list and -------
Do yourself a favor and go there if you haven't !! On the best meals I have had this year with one of the most friendliest service !!
Best Indian restaurant we've experienced in the region. If we weren't an hour's drive from Charlottesville, we'd come more often. It was late afternoon on Saturday, and we were the only ones dining, so we got a lot of personal attention. They even prepared dishes for us that weren't on the menu. We used to live in NYC and have dined in numerous Indian restaurants there. The food here is authentic, fresh, and delicious and the surroundings have a modern, comfortable ambiance. We shall return soon.
If you like Indian cuisine, do yourself a favor and visit this restaurant. The food was excellent and the service efficient. The owner is VERY involved and came by to talk, check in on our experience, and regale us with stories about the wine we ordered. He is a spectacular example of enthusiasm and energy layered on top of vision and skill...making our evening even better. The Ghost Pepper Chicken Tikka was spicy without blowing your head off and so terder and juicy I had to ask the secret (homemade yogurt!!), the Goan Lamb Vin d'Alho curry perfect with a hint of vinegar, and the tandoori lamb chops worth every penny. A simple, authentic Rasmalai was the perfect ending. I heartily recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a Indian cuisine at its best.
Lehja is consistently perfect! Anytime I want an incredible meal, I go to Lehja. Occasionally, when I am craving an awesome dining experience, I go somewhere other than Lehja and leave disappointed.
The food is perfection- every dish that I had tried has been divine. The paneer in the dishes is creamy and delicious. The rice is fragrant and rich in flavor. Dessert- try everything and you will not be disappointed! Pista kulfi is my favorite!
Lehja's food and service were terrific. I'm relatively new to Indian food and the waitstaff was very helpful. I had many questions and all were answered with a positive and friendly attitude. The waitstaff consulted with the chef and made several suggestions. The seating was comfortable and the indirect lighting was relaxing. The meal was delicious and I look forward to returning to Lehja's soon.
Lehja is an order of magnitude better than most Indian restaurant in the area which offer buffets. The menu is extensive with wide array of flavors. Indian cuisine is notable for its spiciness; Lehja will accommodate your level of heat tolerance if you request it.
Some of the most authentic and creative Indian dishes. True North Indian flavors that go beyond the usual Punjabi fare. Their Baingan and the Banjarmasin veggies are worth dying for. Hands down some of the best North Indian food in USA. And to top it all, they have an amazing wine cellar with a fantastic ambience to go with it.
For all of the times that we have dined in this establishment, I believe this is the first time we ordered off the lunch menu. What a discovery! Elmer Fudd knew what he was doing when he was hunting duck. There is a duck dish– that is just too good to be true. Paired with a soft French white, great choice.
Our first visit to Lehja was outstanding, but this time we were very disappointed by the food and the service that took a long time. The rogan josh was far too spicy. We have lived in Asia, have traveled in India, and love spicy food, so the fact that we found it too hot is significant. I feel the waiter should have advised us about the heat level if our choice of 4 was going to be too hot. The roasted cauliflower appetizer had a heavy coating on it which made it less appealing and the spicey chicken tikka appetizer was nothing special. I don't know if they have changed chefs but we walked away feeling very let down and feeling badly that we had encouraged our friends to join us.
Took friends from out of town. Cauliflower appetizer was excellent - lamb one was okay. Ask them to make the spinach/kale/chard salad - not on the menu but FABULOUS! Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken delish as well as all the Tandooris. Our one guest is a vegetarian and told the Owner what veggies and sauce flavors she liked, and her heat preference and he made her the most delicious dinner she's ever had. Highly recommend this restaurant - they want to come back just to go here!
Have been to Lehja multiple times. It is always outstanding. My wife and I have yet to have a meal that we did not enjoy. This visit happened to be during Richmond Restaurant Week. The special three course menu included multiple options that are not on the regular menu. A special lentil soup with shrimp croutons and the special tuna appetizer were both outstanding. The main courses we chose were a shrimp dish and a lamb dish and both were excellent. I hope some of these items make the regular menu or at least appear as specials.
