Often I forget about Legume - honestly. But every time I go back - i remember what a tremendous experience it was - and what a great value for money. Service is spectacular ... and the beef is amazing. I highly recommend Legume!

I've been a Legume fan since they opened in Regent Square. I am never, ever disappointed. The menu offers creative, comfortable, locally sourced, seasonal, amazing, and delicious food for carnivores and vegetarians alike. A great place for special occasions and business as well as everyday dining.

Birthday number seventy and a get together with an old friend. The food was great served well with an excellent presentation. The ambience was very good and the noise level was good. It’s a winner.

Though on the pricey side, the dishes were very well done and presented. The staff were very attentive to our needs without being overly familiar. Stranglely enough, none of the staff gave their names, so I cannot individually recommend their services and efforts. The selection is short but the menu changes everyday. I had the Redfish, tarrow fries, and raclette, and enjoyed them all, particularly the fish. The desserts selection can be improved in my opinion. The noise levels aren't very high and I was very happy that they did not enforce a dress code, unlike many other similar establishments.

Very good dinner, as always, with good service, too. However: Overpriced, and I was put off by the kitchen's refusal to allow a substitution for a side dish. Sometimes restaurants forget they are in a service business....

I go to Legume probably twice a month for business meals - it's close to Carnegie Mellon where I work. The food is consistently good, though it would be nice if they changed up their appetizers on occasion. I would consider it a bit pricey for a non-business meal; indeed I have not chosen this place when on my own dime. I'm not sure if e.g. the steak is worth $42.

The menu was interesting. I was excited to try something new. I had the Venison Merguez Sausage. It was good! All of the other three people in the party enjoyed their dinners too.
Monday was great because they waive the corking fee and we brought two bottles of wine. Thank you for the terrific experience.

I have heard a lot of good things about Legume and have been wanting to check it out for a while! The restaurant was even recently nominated as a James Beard semi-finalist! We had a reservation for two at 8:15pm, and came right on time. We still had to wait for about 15 minutes to get a table. We had wine and beer, which were good. The food was overall okay. We got the Rib steak, which was fine. Nothing special. Also the Greenhouse Baby Greens ($12!!! Just a small regular salad with radish, croutons, and feta cheese. I didn't think there were any simple salads in Pittsburgh sold at this price!). The Tallow Fries were not very good. Bland and very soggy. Lastly, the best thing we got was the Spicy Kimchi. Overall, I wouldn't return. $100+ including tip for a restaurant in Pittsburgh should come with much more!

Amazing! Everything was fantastic, but the grilled squid salad was literally one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Our waiter was new so he was a little frazzled, but overall still pretty good.
I will be returning.

Great food, flexible chef (I didn't know we had a lactose intolerant guest but it was no problem), careful and quick service, excellent vibe for this business meal with out of town guest. And I felt ok leaving my French horn in coat check - every staff person is on the ball all the time. I had to come back for itemized receipt (didn't realize I left it until two blocks away) and it was no problem, too.

We had another amazing couples’ date night at legume. The food was amazing and the atmosphere is really nice. Initially the music was loud but they were so lovely about turning it down. We feel like it is one of the only restaurants in the area where one can still have a nice civilized yummy and quiet dinner. Yay!

I live in the DC area and come to Pittsburgh once a year. Last year, I dined at Legume on back to back nights: so pleased with the first dinner that I returned for another, which was equally excellent.

So, when in Pittsburgh last week, I returned to Legume. Unfortunately, this year's experience didn't match 2017. While the service was still excellent, and the ambience still classy and intimate (if slightly on the loud side), the food didn't work out well, or rather, it worked out too well, and too rare.

After much thought, I ordered lamb leg steak, with a baby kale salad and zurek soup. The salad and soup were excellent, as was the accompanying whole grain bread, but the lamb was overcooked, tough and without much lamb flavor. It came across more like a very well done beef flank steak. The pilaf and escarole at its side were just fine.

The highly attentive waiter, who when I was ordering noted that they had recently changed lamb purveyors, stopped by the table to ask how the lamb was, shortly after it arrived. When I said I thought it was over-cooked and tough, he offered me the "fatty" pork chop instead, which I had once considered. I accepted, and it arrived, perhaps inevitably, significantly under-cooked, with the chef probably assuming i was rare-obsessed. I ate what i could, which wasn't much, and filled up on the always excellent rustic bread and butter.

Both the waiter and the maitre d stopped by to ask how the pork was and I hadn't had the heart to voice my displeasure, partly because I would now appear to want neither well-done NOR rare meat. In fact, I usually order meat medium to medium well.

I figure this was just an unfortunate night at Legume, chalking it up to a tough (no pun intended) night for the chef vis a vis this particular out-of-towndiner. I will definitely try Legume again. As noted, the service and the ambiance were excellent, as was the non-meat fare. But next time, I'll probably order the fish!

Close to the universities and relatively quiet, Legume is a primary meal destination for Pitt and CMU academics and visitors. The service is great, the food, however, is sometimes disappointing. The sauce on the lamb steak was way too sweet.

We had a very nice meal with good service. The menu is small and focuses on local ingredients which is limiting. We liked what we ordered (except the salad, the dressing was too strong for me) but diners should be aware that there is not a lot to choose from. The soup is very good and unique. The dessert was very good, and this was one area where we had a hard time choosing.

Truly delicious food from an interesting menu and wine list. We loved the raclette, the walleye and the rice crepe. The chocolate dessert (recommended by the waiter) was fabulous. I also liked the relaxed but not overly casual atmosphere. We will definitely return!

The wait staff was friendly and very attentive and made excellent suggestions for our vegetarian meal. The food was excellent from small plate to main course and side vegetables. The side vegetables were almost the hit of the dinner. Dessert was also excellent. I would recommend Legume to anyone who wants unique preparation and excellent food.

We had a rutabaga soup that was delicious - an unusual taste that we enjoyed trying to identify; then pasta with a lamb ragout that was delicious, and then some of their excellent chocolate cake with a wave of whipped cream on top. This was a $50 special menu for two {one of us added an excellent glass of tempranillo]. I just wish there had been a token small green salad - as a palate cleanser really. Despite the restaurant's name, they never have much vegetable matter on the main plates and the balance between the main protein and the vegetables with it seems geared to meat eaters who hate vegetables. That's my only criticism of Legume.

Requested a booth or corner table and was seated in a corner booth 😊 Menu was not available on line and the selections were rather limited ( 3 to 4) in each category. Enjoyed the smoked bluefish spread and goat cheese with pepper jelly, both served on or with crostini. Our entrees consisted of lamb bolognese over pasta and pork schnitzel with a gold potato/ rutabega mash and wild mushroom gravy. The pork was slightly overcooked, thus , a bit dry, but overall a good dish. The lamb ragu was well seasoned and pasta was al dente. The baby carrot and turnip side with smoked maple butter was unique and tasty. The bread was a flavorful cracked grain that was probably house made, delicious! The only real disappointment was the dessert, chocolate truffle cake with whipped cream. I found it to be undersweetened and not smooth and silky with just a tad too much salt. All foods were served at the proper temperatures, including the mellow coffee. The service was attentive and course delivery was properly timed.

We find the food at Legume to be EXTREMELY ambitious - and probably one of the better restaurants in Pittsburgh food-wise. (Almost every single item we have has a great deal of thought and effort put into it. As a suggestion, we find the coffee to be somewhat mediocre - might want to look into having choices that are as excellent as the entire rest of the meal.) Wait staff (Jason) was excellent as well. Just an all-around great experience - as always!

Legume never disappoints. We were seated quickly, service was prompt, knowledgeable and friendly and the food unusual and delicious. Goat cheese and pepper jelly crostini were excellent as always, tallow fries we shared around and they disappeared and one of us had the kimchee soup and pronounced it New York quality. Two of us had the pork schnitzel and that was wonderful.

First time in a long while where I didn't bother finishing both my appetizer AND my entree.

Had high hopes due to the JBF nomination hype.
Astonishingly let down by an apathetic service and dull food.

The dining demographic says a whole lot about this place.

We enjoyed our meals there - swordfish and tenderloin tips. I had the tenderloin , it was tender though I would have liked it more rare than their medium rare produced, and there was a LOT there, no starvation at the end of the meal. Their sauce was delicious - the kind that comes from long cooking with fresh ingredients, nothing canned about it. I recommend the restaurant.

My wife and our two college aged sons and I had a meal together at Legume. I have eaten there several times before and never disappointed. Every dish has been worth having, the wine and beer selection very good. The menu won't break the bank, but every dish does not disappoint. We started with the pickle plate, and had eaten too much at home this afternoon to have soups or salads (too bad!). My wife tried the tempeh, my sons the venison and pork and I had the king mackerel. My son had the ice cream dessert and loved it--I had one of the after dinner cocktails and also loved it! I will be back.

Legume serves an excellent quality of food that is hard to find. It uses real fats to cook with which makes the food taste delicious and is much better for your body. If you enjoy a more keto centric lifestyle this is the place to go.
